Fighting Games Weekly | May 26-June 1 | Thank you, Keits

Find a way. You must. It is sooooooooo good

I actually have a US copy of Brawl, even - I wasn't going to wait 4 months back in 2008 for the UK release, fuck that - but my disc drive is fucked so I can't run or even rip it to USB Loader. So yeah.

Short of getting a new Wii I'm kinda S.O.L.

The extra exposure on the main stream is nice for the community though, right? Get more people interested in both Injustice the game and watching high level Injustice. Or do you think that being on the main stage makes no real big difference as far as those reasons go?

It's nice but I am skeptical it makes enough of a difference to be worth giving up a good time slot and block of time. I say this after having a career highlight moment in the top 8 sunday.

Arcade release was greenlit I think even before IGG happened. Strong digital sales in Japan probably helped.

But all anyone knows about it is that M2 is doing the port. Not even Mike Z knows what's happening with it, IIRC.

If I heard right they're waiting for all the content to be completed before moving forward with the arcade release.

I think the impact of "exposure" on community growth by appearing on main streams is extremely negligible at best at this point in their lifespans. Anyone who watches fighting game streams knows what these games are and know that they exist by now.

I'd much prefer putting the existing community before any imaginary potential players anyways. Let the players play at a decent hour and the fans at home see more matches.

Borrow a friend's Wii that's modded to be region free so you can rip the disc?

I do wish EVO had top 8's on the big stage for all games though. Just because it's so special. I was emo last year when Injustice was on that awesome stage with the blue player name signs and MK9 was just on a regular side stage.

Make TTT2 top 4 instead of top 8 and it opens up 5 hours for other games.

Seriously though, I don't know if ALL games should get top 8 on mainstream but the top 4/5 entered games certainly should be.

Honestly, there is no reason they can't put all official Evo games on the main stage if they're doing finals on Friday and Saturday night. SFxT and MK9 didn't get that last year and it felt like it was being dumped on as a result.

Just imagine if you played a game that got their pool matches on that stage.

It's funny to hear you say this since I recall a snark comment from you about the ECT Tekken players finishing their tournament independently off stream and going home early.

I agree with Sanford on the coaching thing. And people change their minds on hella shit as they get older, so calling him out on stuff from the past isn't that fair. Unless he was coaching, like, at UFGT or something.

Don't really agree about the top tier thing but calling him out on the pick a top tier vid from fucking 6 years ago is especially unfair.

why shouldn't there be coaching? boxers get a coach in between rounds and that is 1vs1.

Yeah, I'm with you on both.

The coaching thing is a ticking drama bomb waiting to happen honestly. When EG only has one player in grand finals, their entire team is on stage....because they're all coaching that one guy.

I just think it's funny how Full Schedule caused so much controversy over using a mod that may or may not have given him an advantage. As opposed to coaching, where people make explicit statements about how Infiltration isn't as good without Laugh, but claim that advantage as fair. Tagging James Chen again.

This shit isn't boxing.

But I'd be more ok with coaches being off to the side, instead of sitting there on the stage. Would still prefer no coaching at all though.

its a 1 vs 1 contest so its very similar. if having coaching helps players play at their best then i'm all for it. you can have rules like only 1 coach per player and those players cant shout instructions as the match is being played.

I don't remember, but knowing myself it was probably a joke about how everyone was relieved at not having a 3-5 set Tekken top 8 take forever on the main stream.

It's more like double teaming. A big part of fighting games is situational awareness...especially at the highest level where people pull out stuff people have never seen before. And it's way easier to make sense of what's going on in a match when you're not directly involved. That's why people give the advice to watch your own matches for improvement...because you don't have that insight while being caught up in the heat of the match.

Xian's first big win at Canada Cup basically came from Zhi watching independently, then feeding Xian a counter strategy in the second set.

The same could be said about Infiltration's performance when he had Laugh at his side, compared to now.

All I know is that without Justin and Floe's coaching, Sherry wouldn't have beaten Q. Coaching and the environment itself can affect performance of a player.

My only beef with coaching is that it slows down the game. I hate it when between matches shit comes to a complete standstill while 2-3 guys from the front row get up and start talking to one of the players. C'mon jerks just press start.

Still, Sanford was never the one who should start talking about it at tournaments.

Yeah Sanford has no right to say that when his moronic boss is known for not only coaching but harrasing the other player while at it.

Do you have a Wii U?

that's stream monster talk. it has more to do with cafeid.

That is also speculation albeit with some backing from forum posts aka stream monster talk. Only a handful of people (FChamp and probably FGTV last I heard) know the real reason behind their split but they aren't talking about it.

oh man, ufgt was hype. Just got back from the six hour drive lol. Keits did a great job. Wasn't able to talk to him, since he was busy, but I was the dude today wearing the calvin and hobbes/ryu and sagat shirt. I did ass in my pools b/c i haven't practiced in forever/played in a while, but my friends did alright. If you saw the match with JDilla, that was my friend lol.

Talked to ultradavid for like five minutes while he was on that Hugo train, and bananaken since I remember him from when I was in MI. Talked about phd/engineering stuff lol since we both are in the same boat.

Also each station had hand sanitizers and speedsticks looool. I do gotta say that in the beginning I was worried I was going to knock over a monitor b/c there was barely any room to move and they were at the edge of the tables, but luckily that didnt happen.

I didn't get to watch umvc3 top 8 b/c I went out to vietnamese town and got some pho and checked out china town during that time.

Oh yea, pr rog was super salty when he lost to 801strider. Called the game ass lol.

But overall good shit to you keits and your staff.

So spend your time crying for a Marvel patch that will probably never happen or support CURRENT games that can bring in new people.

ps: he was talking about the whole eh/divekick case

EH Jason being petty? No way!
I couldn't tell over all of those ads he's running.

We also have Markman firing shots:

How can you not support @DivekickGame!? If you don't like the game, that's one thing. But this is the single most community oriented title.

To me @DivekickGame is a great example of something that can help make our community & scene bigger. Don't forget that. We all benefit.

I'm not just saying this because my likeness is in Divekick either, I could care less. I've been supportive since day 1. (1 of 2...)

(2 of 2)... anytime a company looks to service/survey our own community. It should be a good thing (if not great thing), right?

So spend your time crying for a Marvel patch that will probably never happen or support CURRENT games that can bring in new people.

Also, I'm not hating on Capcom. I got more love for Capcom than you know. I just think Marvel doesn't care about the community.

I can hear Dahbomb's heart breaking from here.

Here's my zero cents, though: the fighting game community is very parochial. I don't see how you can convince UMvC3 minions that supporting Divekick or Arcana Heart or whatever is going to do them or anyone else any good, because frankly they don't care. The opposite is true, and I'll speak from personal experience: I don't really care if a game like UMvC3 lives or dies. I don't really subscribe to the idea that a rising tide is going to lift all boats.
