Looking at the responses in the Tekken 7 thread I can see why companies don't normally want videos taken at location test, people can't seem to grasp it's early work in progress.

Pretty much this. I'm amazed by some of the responses.

Despite that, Tekken 7 looks tight.

Early impressions are volatile things. There is so much stuff out there, and people have limited time. Snapshot, decide whether you are interested, and move on is the norm.

looks a lot faster.

I increased the speed of the gif.
Here it is slowed down.

Also, comparison with Tekken 6:

This is the reason I was so annoyed in the last few pages. But I've moved past that now. lol

It's a new day and I'm looking forward to direct feed niconico footage even if that streaming site is infamous for its terrible stream quality.

am I the only one that thinks the game looks the exact same as TT2 except for more hit recognition?

I guess it's only at 50% or whatevs tho

I don't know what I expected tbh

they got ultras tho

If by totally identical, you mean that it has two characters on screen and plays like a Tekken game, then yes.

As far as visual quality, comparison is not even close. Tekken 6 was ultimately a sub-HD game on consoles. TTT2 also had to make compromises due to 4 characters on screen at once. I loved how both look regardless but to say Tekken 7 is Tekken 6 with sparks (which some people here already have) is completely baseless.

Tekken....still looks like Tekken, for better or for worse.

It's kept basically the same art style and visual design throughout its entire history. It's just upgraded from generation to generation with better hardware. Same floorbreak effects, same characters, just better looking and more fluid. It's super-iterative, and this might be a "3D game" problem in general due to the different requirements they have from 2D ones.

(I do hope they found a way to make the endless stages not look horribly dated this time around.)

I thought Tag 2 looked really good. :(

Maybe my standards are lower.

I'm happy to see Lili and Law though, those two are my favorite Tekken characters. If this game is truly coming to Steam then I have no regrets trying to learn a 3D fighter for the first time since I played Virtua Fighter 2 in arcades.

I think it looks fine but blowing off the fact that a non tekken player can't tell the difference in visuals isn't a small thing imo if they really wanna bring in casuals and new players.

I like the big hitsparks a lot. They look crazy but seem really helpful confirming ch or something

I liked how TTT2 looked, I just felt like I had no idea what I was doing in that game. Moves that looked punishable were not, strings could be staggered with high/lows in them messed me up.

A lot of the strings have variations between high/mid/low. It's just a matter of playing and gaining experience so you recognize them and they become easily punishable. A lot of the stuff you can just duck and punish. I always like to post this Anti-Alisa guide as an example of how you can punish strings.

Also, Leo looking all CG.

Like I said, its me and my brain. I tried a couple of times to get into it but I just was not able to get it to click for me. I had a hard enough time backdashing and spacing and trying to land a non-bounce combo. I ended up playing Tekken as a poke game. I guess I am forever a 2-d fighter.

Different tastes, I guess. Some people similarly do not like 2D and can't get into it. Hopefully, Tekken 7 changes will make it easier for you. Or maybe they'll have a really good tutorial this time around.

I'm happy that I can enjoy both 2D and 3D fighters opponent-based action games.

Me too. I did use the auto tag combos to get that damage in TTT2, which was a big help.

But today I am settling it in Smash.

Oh, I'll be playing Smash myself until Tekken 7. I'll be getting the Wii U version, though. Played on a friend's 3DS and I didn't like it. Must have gamecube controller.

I'm basically just unlocking stuff on it- my hands are hurting too much to take it seriously.

I'm playing Smash but it feels so Brawl-like, in a bad way :(
Maybe I just need to get used to it and find some techs to use.

That one moment when you realize you just put your shirt on backwards. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.............

Though, quality can also vary based on which stage you're on. Philippines stage there to make sure you don't see anything. lol

Ugh, i detest that stage.

In general i really liked how Tag 2 looked. Though i'm a fan of the slight visual improvements in Revolution. More colorful and flashy.

T7 looks fantastic. If this is 50% visuals i can't wait for final version. (Need Kunimitsu though ~.~ )

I hate that stage where you play in that purple mud, or whatever. Good lord, I hate it, lol.

Is the Smash thread the biggest continuous thread of all time on GAF? It's clocking in at its 17th thread. That's ridiculous. I thought there was a limit to having these mega threads on GAF...

When actual news comes, it gets its own thread. That thread is for discussing the daily Miiverse updates.

First, I want to say everyone calling T7 Rage Supers "Ultras" is making me feel mad old for thinking of Art of Fighting Desperation Moves (they behave more like them as well).

Second, I can't believe someone said the animations were from Tekken 1 in that T7 thread. And saying it looks like a previous Tekken graphically based on phone cam youtube videos we are all looking at it is silly. The quality is ass.

I remember practicing doing the haoh shouko ken on the training dummy during the bonus round. I finally was able to do it as a kid after failing so many times. Though AOF did have the special meter. Taunting was pretty useful since it messed up your opponents specials and Ryo basically threw Dan's fireball when he was out of energy.

Thread idea: Tips for doing ultras in Tekken with a fightstick?

Tekken 7 looks amazing. I'm going to give MK10 and Tekken 7 a fair shot this time around.

Also Sm4sh is godlike.

I think they are excessive, it is just that KI is completely nuts with shit all over the screen. If anything T7 will not completely kill stream quality.
It's a lot better now (although IMO the game still looks not-good due to its weird half-retro/half-Modern aesthetic) - Iron Galaxy really went after the particle/lighting effects hard.
