Fighting Games Weekly | September 10-16

Saying a game is dull is basically saying the game is bad since the purpose of games is to enjoy them.
Not really, a lot of people feel VF is dull but respect that it's a quality fighter with lots of depth and skill involved. Some people say that about SF4 and Tekken too. That's how I interpreted the post.

On the opposite side, there are people who think Marvel is fun and not dull but don't respect it as a quality fighter. All of this is fine.

I'd still rather watch this than sfxt.

I will pick up this game, but i don't buy video games at full price any longer.

Are you saying the game is dull to play or is the game is dull to watch? There should be a distinction between the two as they mean completely different things. The guy I responded too didn't make that distinction he just said the game was dull for these reasons.

Up here in Canada, apparently TTT2 dropped to $50 on release instead of the $60 everyone pre-ordered for, etc.

doomd?

I plan on picking it up during a sale because of 4 player local play.

Support Namco just on the fact they don't half ass features in their games.

A little bit if both. Personally I find MK very dull to play and thus I never watch it being played at high level.

isn't the game very similar to tekken 6? its not like they have to start all over with new combos.

I didn't play tekken 6 but I noticed a lot of familiar combos from freaking tekken 5.

Some new moves here and there but yea a lot of strings, and combos look like same old to me.

This is a good thing for me since I skipped out on 6 and won't have that much catching up to do.

That's totally fine. Before I never watched Kof games played because I found it dull to see but having played the game I find it quite enjoyable, I admire it's strategic depth and how the game rewards you for playing it. Having a better understanding of the game I am now able to enjoy watching high level matches although low level play is still very boring to me.

And then there was one.

Has Gootecks ever officially left complexity? I know it was assumed when he just quit everything and ended up in the desert.

You're implying that games without some form of customization is boring though. Is ST and SF4 any less of game because you can't augment your characters with assist, arcana, health multipliers? Absolutely not. I think your perspective comes from the view point of one who consumes streams and watches fighting games for entertainment and even from that angle it's a radical view point. A game can still be exciting to the viewer with out those things it al relies on how the developers handles the presentation.

ST and SF4 ARE lesser games than they would be with customization. That may be a radical view but it's a logical one. Customization essentially makes the roster much bigger. You wouldn't consider ST better or even equally good if you removed characters, unless the characters you removed were: 1. superfluous, or 2: hurt the game (Akuma). For example, ST is better than ST minus Cammy because ST has Cammy. Good customization increases the roster in ways that aren't superfluous or damaging, therefore it makes the game better.

And even when customization makes tons of superfluous and bad characters (for example Marvel, with its thousands of bad, useless team combinations) that bloat the game (and bloat does hurt a game), as long as there are enough good characters to play, the bloat can be outweighed.

The more characters the better, but everyone has a limit on how many characters their brain can even handle. Thankfully, in addition to increasing roster size exponentially, customization makes that huge roster manageable. You don't run into character #99,999, wondering what the hell his moves are and hoping for the best. Instead, you run into X-23 with Doom rocks assist and think "well I've never seen this before, but I can predict what's going to happen and adjust". Customization fucking rules.
