This will sell out. Don't underestimate the fujoshi market.
To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me.

If I were on the opposite end of the table, and sensual/female-related figures were only released 1-2 times a year for me, I'd probably jump at the pre-order, even for one priced at 20,000+ yen.

lmao this just gave me a vision:

one day, everyone's figures are suddenly gender-flipped

Kinda loling at the thought of how some of mine would look.

Oh I have no doubt it'll still sell. Fujoshi are already paying the price of a PS4 on a stuffed toy, so I don't expect some would have a problem with picking this boy up. Hell if I was actually a fan of the character or even liked the figure enough I'd be buying it myself.

Still doesn't make it any less hard to swallow though.

So, fellow EU gaffers, Nippon Yasan sent me an email about this new delivery offer. It's a bit odd, as they call it duty free but add that due to regulations the VAT price is included into the price, but if the handling fees are omitted that would probably cut about 50% of the tax/fees I pay extra per delivery.

I will definitely keep this in mind for the next few things that pop up.

Will keep this in mind too. Thanks for the heads up!

I was wondering if gaf had a figure thread, and sure enough. Awesome!

I just opened these Daft Punk Figuarts figures today. I'm going to need a bigger desk soon.

Oh shit!!! I completely forgot about these guys! I didn't even realise they were released, where did you get them?

And nice Earthworm Jim figure at the back, haha.

EDIT: Hello btw!

Thanks! That Earthworm Jim is my favorite haha.

I got them from Amazon. I actually just ordered two more since I'm afraid of my figures getting stolen at work.

I also just bought this Mega Man D-Arts figure which should be here Friday.

I experimented with this and tried adding a lot of items to it, the good thing is that if you order figurines in bulk, the shipping price stays static.

So if you order a lot of huge figures every month, this would be the best place to do it.

Is there that big a difference?

That's a question I'm sure everyone can't answer XD

Probs pricing and I think D-Arts may have more parts to pose with etc

To Google Translate and Bandai's own descriptions:
D-Arts said:
Series of three-dimensional with a lineup full of variety a new generation digital characters.
It adopts the size-moving mechanism and materials to match the characteristics of each piece, and then reproduced in full view of the world of the character.
SHFiguarts said:
New standard figure series that condensed the action figure Bandai technology of the theme of "the pursuit of character representation by human-tooth", "SHFiguarts (S. H. Figuarts)". Moveable model of about 14cm with the concept of (dynamic) Simple Style the name of "SH" indicates Heroic action and the (static) is awaken a "little treasure sense".

Yeah I guess D-Arts = less humanoid shape then(?).

adorable. the cream is not that offensive. depends on how you look at it. besides, what if the cream is colored pink frosting?

the writer is overreacting.

oh wait, Leah Bayer wrote it, no wonder.

That's a big if. But that would probably be the best way for them to go about it at this point.

Leah's posts are often terrible, but a child version of a hyper-sexualized character is pretty high on the creepy scale no matter how you slice it.

i see nothing sexual. she's not naked or doing a lewd pose. even porn stars were kids once. :p

ah, let's go back to when Sonico wasn't sexualized.

I think Leah is going off the assumption that the cream will be painted white. SO IT LOOKS LIKE JIZZ, GET IT?

If they go that route, it'll be pretty indefensible. If the frosting is pink or blue or something, then whatever.

Sonico is a hyper-sexualized character at this point - that ship has long sailed. And I'm not sure there ever was a time when she wasn't sexualized - maybe not to the extent she is now, but her character design always was.

Wait, what's wrong with Leah's posts?

very opinionated

It's not just that she's opinionated, it's that when she dislikes something she tends to come across in a rather holier-than-thou manner, as if her opinion is absolute and she can't imagine how anyone could possibly see or feel differently. Thankfully that's been less common recently (at least as far as I can remember), as most of the impressions of new figures seem to be positive.

Anyway, I imagine the text content of the site is far behind in importance to most visitors, so it really doesn't actually matter very much.

i found out about her way back when she was just some small lil image for those promos for Nitro+. WAY back. she did have a few sexy images pop up a lil bit later so i guess they knew she had sex appeal. but yea, she's quite popular these days.

yup, you summarized it perfectly. and yea, i usually just look at the images but sometimes the headlines indicates what she thinks so i can't ignore that.

At this point Tomopop and Plastikitty are just things that I check once in a while to find the rare thing that fell through ohnoraptor's tumblr's cracks.

i much prefer Tomopop's writing. More lighthearted and less "i'm so creeped out by figures I've been covering for years"

Ah, I guess I get it. I can see how it would be annoying when someone has a holier-than-thou attitude. I guess I haven't noticed it since I haven't been following plastikitty as long as some of you. I notice her opinion, but I usually agree or at the very least see where she's coming from. It never really came across as arrogant.

I was pretty sure list-price for Benten wouldn't top 15k. If he was 13k or so after discounts, I would have bought him simply because of the way Aoba's price shot up. But at 25k, I might as well just go buy a fucking Aoba. XD

I think the Aoba figure looks better than Benten anyway.

Does anyone have any experience with "soft vinyl" figures? After doing some reading, it seems soft vinyl was used before PVC formulations improved (most of today's figures are PVC) and it's not actually soft like a rubber duck (though the mental image of a floppy figure amuse me to no end). I ask because I'm thinking of buying a Kotobukiya FFX-2 Yuna. It's from 2004, so I wonder if I should worry about leaning, chemical breakdown, etc. All my current figures are less than 2 years old and either PVC or resin, so I don't exactly have a large dataset.

I have a bunch of Dragon Quest soft vinyl figures. It's definitely softer than PVC. I don't think you could make them as detailed as PVC either. But I haven't had them long enough to see how they hold up.
