What the fuck am I reading?

I passed the "what the fuck" stage a few pages back when someone suggested it should be redone "like Dark Souls." No. Just... no.

They aren't going to screw this up by making it into an Action RPG. I refuse to believe it.

First on PS4 means it's coming on PC I assume, there is no way this game is on XB1.

If Sony is helping fund this game, yeah it's not coming to xbone.
If it's just paying for console first rights then it's coming to xbone eventually. After all, ff15 and kh3 are both going there.

No. Seriously, that's stupid.
Turn-based combat with significant positioning is completely different from turn-based combat without significant positioning. And ATB isn't even fully turn-based in the first place.

And what's more stupid is making a remake that's not actually a remake.

FF7's combat is fine.

at first i was really excited but now i just realized this will likely not even make it out on shelves during the ps4 system cycle.

ps5 exclusive.

i have to ask. is ther a square enix confrence ? or did it happen already ?

we might get some info about the game from them later on ? specially if this game is coming to other platforms besides PC

Edit: http://www.e3countdown.com/

yeah there will be square enix show. hope at least get just lil more info about the game.

yeeep agreed.

But they must fine a way to make us control the entire party on the fly.

No compromises in that element for FF7.No automated gambit stuff like in FFXV.

Absolutely. It'd feel great to bad ass around as Tifa. Even give her some solo side quests.

I'd love some new solo side-stuff for all of the characters actually. Regardless of combat style.

Fingers crossed they won't botch the combat system.
I liked FFVII, but couldn't care too much for all derrivatives that followed.

Just mix with FF10's combat and make it speedi-er. LIke shortcut summons.

Really need skippable summons and less excess magic cast scene as well.
We don't need a carbon copy of FF7.
A remake is to improve on the original in term of graphic and gameplay.

W-Summon+KoTR+Mimic...5mins of FMV...Nno one wants this in any FF or RPG game unless you live in the 90s.

Here's the question making me not sleep tonight.

If they let this megaton bomb fall today... What the fuck do they have waiting for us tomorrow?

(Hint: It's a Chrono Trigger remake.)

You can create a remake which is faithful and yet doesn't make people sit through 20 hours over the whole game watching animations play out.

it's just as much watching animations play out as XII or XIII's battle system is; just presented a bit differently.

Team FFX2 ATB

Short ATB bars and quick charge times for snappy normal attacks, longer charge times for summons/big spells?

Nothing else exciting. They always front load the best stuff.

Just came home from a cardio session at the gym, it's 4:30 am, I listened to the orchestral OST the whole time, and imagining how the Gold Saucer will look, Chocobo racing, the Battle Arena, Knights of the Round, the strategy mini-game (Fort Condor), ect ect,
I poured well over 100 hours into this classic and it'll be a lot more once the remake releases. The HYPE is more than real!

Hit me with those inevitable limited editions!!!!!!

I can, for the most part.

For the battle system, retain the original Active Time Battle, but:

1) Increase the pacing of the battle. Take inspiration from Bravely Default by allowing us to speed up battle animations and such, let us skip summon animations, etc.

2) Either random encounter AND the encounter slider from Bravely Default, or visible enemies on the field with seamless encounters, like Chrono Trigger/FFXII. The former has the advantage of keeping true to the original level design of map areas, potentially making them feeling more tight and detailed looking as they don't have to accommodate the enemies. The latter means larger area and seamless encounter, but it'd be weird to see map infested with creatures and such, and the maps might be less detailed-oriented.

3) Needs a lot of balancing work. Omnislash/Mime/KOTR/Final attack+Phoenix/Double summon, all needs tweaking for the end game. At the same time, make the game more challenging, perhaps difficulty options.

4) Add more materia/weapons/armors/accesories choices. Give them interesting effects that can provide various customization possibilities and options in battles.

5) Story/character wise, new and improved translation to the same original script, no if's or buts. Voice acting optional. Remastered soundtrack by Nobuo Uematsu, again optional. Cutscene skip, same thing.

6) Keep the silly/lighthearted stuff. I have no idea how they're going to make Cloud dress like a lady, but do it. Just do it. I don't even care if I'd cringe hard, but it'd be glorious.

7) World map/airship is the hardest bit. I doubt they'll make fully traversable field map like FFXV, that'd be insane.

I agree with all of this, but they really have to remove the random enemy encounter, it's just annoying. As you said a combat system similar to Chrono Trigger/FFXII would be great. I don't know what the battle system in Bravely Default is like, so I can't say anything about it.

Or you can design it so you can switch off characters. It doesn't have to be Kingdom Hearts.

They're definitely going to fuck with the combat system and Nomura likely knows that they don't want to have just one playable character.
We can agree to disagree, but I love this series and I love this specific entry more than any other game ever released, before during or after. I would prefer it not to be ARPG. If others want that, they can recieve it from other games, not request that this change to fit their tastes. Its a reMAKE, not a reboot.

I'm gonna go to bed now and pray that the last 2-3 pages didn't happen in what was otherwise a very good thread on a great day.

No. Seriously, that's stupid.

Good points all.

I don't think they can get away with ditching the world map/airships though. They'll just need to keep it abstract.

Yeah. I'm thinking maybe they can do it like Ni No Kuni/Arc Rise Fantasia/Tales of Vesperia. Classic world map/airship, but with updated visuals and more detailed looking environment.

But..
do we know what has been remade ?
Lots of CG cutscenes i assume, but we still have no idea how the game itself has been updated. Or did i miss something ?

FFX-2+++ more tweaks

Multiple attack animation, such as counter, combo, or even team attack. and even more unique attack animation/event with different enemy

I think they can achieve that to made turn-based combat dynamic without shift it as action game

People need to remember this is a remake not a remaster, basically forget everything you saw/knew about the original, Nomura will finally tell a story that makes sense.

That sure is some Engrish in that trailer.

So are they going to keep all the weird stuff that won't age well like Cloud being raped as a joke, Barrett being Mr. T, and Cait Sith?

You can create a remake which is faithful and yet doesn't make people sit through 20 hours over the whole game watching animations play out.

Easily even.

Uh what? Attacks and Casts are quick as hell.

If you're talking about skipping summon sequences, that's practically nothing to do with the combat at all.

Awesome! Finished that game on PC like five times back in the day. Hoping that this will eventually makes its way to PC again, alongside with 15 ( hopefully).

They better not tamper too much with the battle system, although they likely will to try to appeal to more modern tastes.
