The reviews were so bad that I never even played DoC.

It looks like I was 9 at the time. Didn't really know to read reviews, nor did I know a good game from bad back then lol. But a 9 year old was able to enjoy it!

Edit: 10, not 9, but that's nothing.

Me neither. In fact I didn't play any of the compilation stuff.

I bought a PSP Go for the sole purpose of playing Crisis Core and then they never released it digitally. So I just played the PS1 classic of FF7 on it again

-_-

I actually ended up watching it on YouTube. I was never able to get a PSP, but watching it was fine. Really tells a lot about Zack and Sephiroth.

Not sure if answered, but do we know what direction they will go with for the remake? Classic turn-based with updated production or a real-time action system in an attempt to emulate Advent Children's action?

Personally, I wouldn't mind the latter. Especially with Nomura in the director's chair. Could be a cool opportunity to see some of his ideas cut from XV fully realized (faster action, character switching, etc.).

I was so excited for Advent Children, that I watched it in Japanese with subtitles, way before it even came out in the US. I remember being so easily pleased by the cool fight scenes, that I didn't even care about the story being... as it was.

When I rewatched the official English release when that came out, that's when I cared about the story, because I had already seen all good bits.

I was also day 1 on Crisis Core, it was just Dirge of Cerberus that I stayed away from, purely because of how much negative attention it got.

I highly recommend you all check out this playlist of Before Crisis if you haven't, as it was never released stateside and has important plot info. Rufus, the Turks, and President Shinra all get significant development here, and it runs concurrently to Crisis Core and even fills in some gaps in the story. Plus Cissnei is a main character.

Kalm is such a strange place. It contrasts Midgar by being a medieval small town with next to nothing going on. It serves no purpose other than being a resting spot for Cloud to tell his story. Yet it still remains being a memorable place.
The odd thing is how much the world, in general, is a contrast to Midgar(or the places heavily under Shinra control). Everything within the shroud of Shinra is very modern with technological convenience(if you are on the upper crust, that is). The world outside of that is really old school in that sense. Like Kalm, a great deal of the towns are modeled after the Medieval-esque/Alpine village look. Even Corel, before the reactor blew up, was basically a typical "Wild West"-looking mining town. There was always this interesting contrast between the world within Midgar/"World of Shinra" and the world outside. Reading some of the Ultimania key notes years back, it's pretty much apparent that the modernization of FFVII's world IS because of Mako(which allowed technology to advance in a rapid rate). Prior to that, everything was more lower tech, perhaps mirroring our late 19th century/early 20th century. I always loved the hell out of that!

No idea where this originated but I would pay obscene amounts of money for it. Just make that the classic gray anniversary system and controller

For all that Advent Children imagery? Urgh, I think I'll pass!

We don't know yet. Just that Nomura said the whole standing in a line during battles thing isn't going to happen for the remake.

I get it man. The feelings I have for FF7, the yearning I've had to see it revisited, I can't imagine what you're feeling right now either. I'm picturing them announcing an FF8 remake instead of 7 and my heart would be shattered.

You will get your FF6 someday!

Nomura's comments this week gave me hope, not to mention Verendus said a VI Remake is going to happen... he just didn't specify in what capacity.

Believe!

*sniff*

Thanks for warming this old gamer's heart

So I'm not sure if this interview hints at what the mechanics could be since he is being very vague but he does mention that having these beautiful models of cloud and barret to go up and just slash and jump back to the line wouldn't do it justice so who knows.

Yeah, that's a load of bullshit. VII was a genuinely great game with lovable characters.
I feel like people who say that were never fans of VII to begin with and uses ass pulls like that to knock it down a peg.

It's bad enough when the same people that decry 7 and use the reasoning "You only like it because it was your first RPG" and to hear them gush about FF4/FF6 or Chrono Trigger in the same fashion, it's kind of hypocritical.

FF7 wasn't my first RPG, actually Phantasy Star IV and FF6 was. (I played them both around the same time)

At least I can go back and play FF6 and PSIV and acknowledge the flaws they had. So people still going back and playing FF7 and enjoying, had nothing to do about it being "babby's first RPG" or some other bullshit excuse, but because it genuinely was a good game.

Sure it may not have aged well in terms of visuals, but overall game progression, music, and combat mechanics it still a very solid game to this day.

When the remake coming out and I play it. I look forward to compare differences as well being able to see what stayed the same and what has improved.

One of the biggest things I want to see is the remake version of FF7's Hell House enemy, especially if they decide to use a non random combat system. Gonna weird to see this miniature house looking thing come out of nowhere and just attack me. I'm looking forward to it.

Anyone else notice during squares conference it said more to come this winter.....this leads me to believe we will get a glimpse of gameplay or something at Sony's PSX event.

You would like to think that...

But it's actually just going to be the release date of the upscaled PC port on PS4, which has been delayed to Spring 2016.

This. That can go and it probably will anyway.

After some thought Honey Bee Inn can still be in the remake just remove the Mukki debacle and have Cloud earn the wig and panties by doing the squats instead.

At the inn you could only see in the keyhole and it was dark and it was only implications.
It can still work.

i dunno man.. this is gonna be fully voiced i assume. it was implied they were doing "stuff" when looking through the keyhole with text appearing.. lol
now it's gonna be fully SOUNDED too! lol

so many memories. I remember during my teens getting near the end of disc 1 and my sister says
'according to this guide, she dies.'
and i'm all like 'nah it's cool, i'll just use phoenix down.'
'no i actually think she's going to die.'
'nah, i'll just use phoenix down.'

yeah...

i remember two separate reactions from my friends (who are twins) playing the game

one of them who was watching was actually crying and the other was raging hard because she had all his best materia and he didn't know if it was gone

But she leaves your party long before she dies and the materia she had doesn't stay with her, only her equipment does.

Go back in time and chastise your young friend.

I didn't have a PS1, so I had to wait until the PC port a year later to play it. By then, that spoiler was spread wide and far across the internet. I remember accidentally downloading the entire cutscene (extremely compressed) from some AOL channel, as well as seeing open discussion on message boards, because nobody gave a shit about being careful with spoilers back then.

I don't think he knew that the materia had been put back into his inventory. But if time travel is invented I'll be using it to skip forward to the remake release rather than go back

Btw guys, whats the reason for the PC port not coming to Xbox one too? do sony really have rights to FF7?

One reason is that there's no point in Xbox one ports of smaller games they dont have to make back their money on. That's only reason KH3 and FF15 are going to XB1, and that's arguable whether it will be worth it.

For Japanese games, SE gives no fucks about MS or their player base as harsh as it is. They already tried that last gen.

If they wouldn't buy the game because of random encounters, they don't deserve it.

I feel like random encounters were a result of the limitations developers had to deal with back then.

ATB, menus and turn based battles I can personally deal with. Random encounters though, feel really archaic and hinder exploration.

Final Fantasy XV with a demo of Final Fantasy VII-R of the remade opening sequence ala the demo that came with Tobal #1 back in the day.

That would be so epic
