Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

Why are people on here giving ideas of cutting and streamlining parts of the game THEY don't like? People have been waiting for this game for years too relive the experience they love. Why ask for a fraction of this? Also shorten summons? You mean make them longer and more spectacular right?

Has there been any comment from the developers on whether it's strictly an action RPG or if there will be any active time battle elements?

What if it is an option in single player to have others join you in the story? I find it compelling!

That would likely cause balancing issues for enemies/bosses. A separate multiplayer mode where players fight each other or do small missions in the Arena or something might be okay. Just keep it away from the single player experience.

Combat is like Kingdom Hearts.

I wanted to say i still don't believe it by the way lol..

What i mean is.; When you see the level of production value there, the models, the characters, the backgrounds, the city..

I can't still see nowadays SE, already struggling with some dev hell and probably budget hell for FFXV, doing all of FFVII in that quality. When you think of the content in this game, all the bosses, the cut scenes, the locations, the enemies... It's just insane.

Also something a little sad is that, even with a semi action game, when i see those closed environments, predetermined enemies etc... It feels so much more fun than wandering endlessly with infinite enemies poping out in FFXV..

Maybe this game will make SE realize high budget FF is perfectly fine not being an open world... They control their shit way better like that.

You're right.

But maybe they can pull this off ,because they're basing their work off of games like LR, FFXV, and the original VII.I think they have a decent background to build on with creating such a game.

Then again, there's still a strong possibility that FF7R is years and years away.

Hmm, I never really thought about people missing random encounters. I have fond memories looking back, but when I first got into FF as my first rpg's I hate random encounters. But it was nice for grinding and can self-padding gameplay when I felt like it.

More like FFVIII!

Really, really can't wait for that remake.Just imagine VIII in this fidelity and with more balanced battle system. It still looks gorgeous as it is lol.

I liked CC a lot when I played through it. The only thing that bothered the crap out of me was how they had to add in Angeal and Genesis. They weren't needed at all and they add nothing to the overall story of FF7.

I could have been okay with it if FF7 at least had some kind of connection with them, like names in a report or something. But they are so obviously shoehorned in.

Would've been fine if they were good characters ,but they weren't.
So tired of people piling hate on FFXV.

lol Amazing gif.

My mind still cannot comprehend that this is actually happening. It's completely surreal.

I watch and rewatch the trailer, and every time I'm transported back in time to those days when this was just a far off dream, an item in every fanboy's wishlist for every E3, a recurrent joke, a meme.

I always knew that the remake would happen eventually. To me, it was not a question of "yes" or "no", but "when".

Then Verendus' post about the remake being real, and having seeing it with his own eyes increased my hype. I believed him completely.

However I thought the remake was not in active development but rather in super early planning stages as some sort of "emergency backup plan" in case Square was facing difficulties and needed their "final ace in the hole".

Then the rumors started appearing just before Sony's conference at E3 2015. Several gaming outlets had claimed that their independent sources were confirming the presence of the remake at the conference.

Although I was certain that the remake was the real deal, I refused to believe they would show it so soon. I was sure that we would get our very first glimpses of it at 2017, at the very earliest.

I remember that day. I was watching the E3 conference at the office (Sue me), but I had to leave for home. I was on a car ride home, I was trying to update the Live Blogs on my cell phone, but none were working. Then suddenly my brother starts sending me WhatsApp texts like crazy, like "AFIOPASGFVPOJSF=?Q$%%")=(F".

I was like "What"?

"Did you see that?! OMFG FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE".

"lol. Yeah right."

"FOR REAL, BITCH! Aren't you watching?!"

"No, I'm on a car ride ho...."

Then Gematsu finally updated. The whole world around me exploded. Literally, my brain just shut down. My friend left me at home and I fucking ran to my room to turn the PC on. I remember I was shaking. And then I saw it.

I couldn't fucking believe it. It was real. It was in development. They were showing it right there.

The promise had been made.

And now, a few months later they actually show in-progress GAMEPLAY. And still, like RIGHT NOW, I can't believe this is truly, actually happening.

Such is the meaning of Final Fantasy VII to me. :)

Fantastic post, fully representative of a true, dedicated fan :)

The trailer looks great. Few nitpicks aside, they seem to be getting everything right.

The battle system looks fun. I wonder what sort of spin they're gonna put on it to distinguish it from Crisis Core and Kingdom Hearts. I'd also like to know how character switching is going to work. Personally I'd like for it to still be turn based without AI teammates. I think it could work if there were a timer that counted down for each character's turn where you're allowed to execute so many commands until you're forced to switch to another character. Inactive teammates could still attack and defend to keep the action flowing without causing or taking any actual damage. That way you'd still have complete control over the battle.

I hope there's no controllable summons too. The way Ramuh was handled in FFXV would work really well for FFVII's flashy summon attacks.

From the words of Kitase: "Final Fantasy VII Remake not completely action-based"

I wouldn't expect something just like KH (as much as I'd prefer that)

Going off the gameplay clips, it's like KH. The strategical aspect comes from gear, abilities, etc, like he said:

“However, what makes Final Fantasy and RPG different from other games is that the players have the ability to choose weapons, capabilities and magic to be strategic minded, so while the new game has more real-time element, it will also maintain that strategy building element, balancing these two factors perfectly to enhance the gaming experience."

Of course, things can change later on, so don't get too hung up on it right now. See how Versus XIII turned from KH gameplay to a hold button mess.

I'm kinda jealous of the folk who played this game back at its release to now see this today with all the memories and nostalgia.

It looks hype for me, but that must be on a whole other level for you guys.

Yeah.

Dunno what's the deal.

People are going to be praise based Square when that hits.

There was a lot of anxiety about it back when it was one of only a few games anyone was looking forward to from them.

I'd think people should be more relaxed in anticipation of XV when looking at Squares current lineup. *shrug*

Fantastic post, fully representative of a true, dedicated fan :)

Thanks! VII is my favorite game in the franchise, by far. While I really love several of the other entries like VI, IV, IX, X, to name a few, VII is just on another level for me.

And now, seeing it realized with current technology, what I see surpasses my wildest predictions about how it would look. Back during the PS3 era I believed it would look like the PS3 Tech Demo at best.

But this? Holy shit. Expectations surpassed and blown away to the sun and back.

them fuck up
all my favorite moments.

From what was shown, you can only attack your current target, unlike KH. And there's a "Defend" option that's yet to be demonstrated.

It's still similar to KH in the sense that it's real time, but we don't fully know how much control we have of our character

My god. Still kind of hard to believe it's all real.

I know. I have no idea how they're going to pull off such a massive game with this kind of quality. I kept expecting the Final Fantasy VII logo to pop up followed by an "Episode 1" at the end. I don't know how well it would work if it was released episodically, but I don't know how they're gonna fit it all in a single package either.

Do you have Twitter? I like to follow fellow enthusiasts :3

I really. REALLY hope they make the opening cutscene completely in real-time. From Aerith's walking the streets, to Cloud jumping off the train.

I want to see that Midgar shot using in-game graphics. I seriously NEED to see that logo appear on screen when the reflector's light hits.

Oh no, sorry. I don't use Twitter. :(

Why would you think that ?

You're much luckier if you haven't played the game. You have the chance to experience a brand new ,vast game.

Depending on how close it is to the original,a lot of the surprises might be already known to old players.

Someone who has never played VII is luckier imo.

I wouldn't mind and would actually prefer if they went this route. Ni No Kuni had a beautiful over world and it really represents that old school feel when your party enters a new town or dungeon and the scene switches to render that specific asset. Would save them tons of time and would streamline the ability to capture the entire game in all its glory.

Ni No Kuni did have a pretty overworld, but how would battles take place in FF7R if they had an overworld like that? Would it be visible enemies like Tales that transition you into an isolated battle screen? That might be kind of jarring.

Final Fantasy VII Remake |OT| FOR REAL, BITCH!

Yeah, I'd rather they minimized use of CGI. Hell, I'd prefer they only use it when needed for the background in some scenes.

I am not a fan of remakes, because they could have created a new Final Fantasy instead of 7. The graphics are maybe amazing, but the story won't have surprises anymore. I understand that 7 is loved, and I respect that, hence this long thread and YouTube views, a lot of people are anticipating it, because 7 was one of the best games for them during the Ps1 era.

Still I wanted a whole new FF from Nomura, because of the story and character surprises and a whole new soundtrack.

Curious why you think so ?

Square's CG probably far outreaches what real time can do ,and midgar might be too vast to portray properly in real time.

If they can do it then wow.

Unless they try to bring in the stories of the other games as well as Advent Children.
