Just started the ps4 re release last night, man that opening cut scene still gives me chills. This game has atmosphere out the wazoo and i cant wait to see that and more fully realized in 2017

"since the day they announced it" is crazy. I think Nomura said it has been about a year before E3.

That'd also roughly line up, give or take a few months, with the time Nomura was taken off the XV project, and presumably transferred to this one instead. So at least a year or so of development and/or planning.
Plus they said, around this year's E3 i think, that development had begun before the PC port was announced.

Only concrete thing they've said was that it started production before the PS4 port was announced. So it's around a year and change into development, give or take a few months.
I know you seem to hate FFXV but do you really need to bring this shit in here?
I tried looking for specifics but it's confirmed that it was in development before the PS4 port announcement. And I think I remember someone saying up to a year before the announcement, could be wrong. So probably like 18-24 months of work so far.

Haha this is why I think it's actually kind of fair when people say "if you want the original, go play that." Because at least that thing will continue to exist, unlike Star Wars where the only available version, as far as I know, are the tampered with versions.
So a playable Advent Children? Because I doubt Nomura will just ignore his movie.

I am wondering the same thing. Will this be a truncated version of FFVII, or will all the major areas from the original, like the Golden Saucer and its mini games or the Honeybee Inn, be in the remake?

Good question. It has been all Midgar footage so far, yes ? The amount of details for this area is great and it makes me wonder how they will recreate every house interior in Kalm, Nibelheim, Yutai, etc. I am no expert but I would say that's probably a lot of work. Hence, will they really 'remake' the whole game ? I could see how they would be looking for alternatives.

Oh they're free to do whatever they want based on perceived market trends and just how they want to design games. I'm similarly free to be upset when my favorite game of all time undergoes a drastic change that I feel is unwarranted.
I doubt you'll be able to go into all those interiors. I'd expect mostly the required story areas and not much more.

Why do I keep reading that XV and FF7r have the same combat? Do some fail to realize that XV combat was rebooted when Tabata came along and Nomura got booted? I mean Jesus that small detail annoys the shit outta me since some folks have no idea what they're talking about.
On a positive note it's a great time to be a SE and FF fan with multiple projects in the works ( XV, World of FF, Nier, XIV, FF7r, KH3, 2.8, perhaps XVI in the future, etc) there's something for everyone no need to shit on one title. It's the first time years SE has had multiple games in development let's rejoice for once.

Not everyone is following both games all that closely and might be misinformed. Hell, look at all the people shocked (not angry/disappointed, but shocked) that VIIr isn't going to be turn based despite Nomura already saying that it wouldn't months ago. Some people just aren't up to date.
If there was ever a game that Square knew they shouldn't take a shortcut on, it's this one.
This is my thinking as well. I think they are going to take their time and give this game the full treatment it deserves with things missing or being altered only when it makes sense. This game is quite possibly their most important project to date. Hopefully with this game not being made on a proprietary engine and already have a plot/character/music foundation to start on will keep them sailing smoothly.

SE just doesn't handle sequels very well. Often times they ruin the original game's intent in the process.
Looks pretty good. I would be lying if I didn't say it made the 12/13 year old FFVII fanboy of years past in me all kinds of excited.
It would of been perfect if it was turn-based, but I know that was a very long shot from the moment they announced it so can't say I am disappointed all that much.
