Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

is it cause theres not alot of trust of square to continue a story post ff7?

The original story is good and the characters are pretty great. After what they did with Advent Children, yeah no, give me the original writing over any new creativity they could throw at this game.

Robert from Zeboyd said on twitter since this has the potential to be Square's most profitable non-MMO game, they should have a classic battle system option for fans not happy with the new one.

It wouldn't happen of course, but it's nice to dream.

I am wondering the same thing. Will this be a truncated version of FFVII, or will all the major areas from the original, like the Golden Saucer and its mini games or the Honeybee Inn, be in the remake?
I fear we will see cuts at some points, but I don't think they flat out planned to "cut" content. They know there will be a huge outrage if anything is missing.

We'll he can't be too swole, how is he going to fool Don Corneo then?
Hey, I like my fit girls...

SE just doesn't handle sequels very well. Often times they ruin the original game's intent in the process.

I think the other part of that is they rarely understand what it is that people enjoyed about the original.

Like how George Lucas is with Star Wars. From his perspective he saw how he couldn't realize his grand vision for the movies and created the special editions and prequels that completely ruined the series because the audience's understanding of the movie came from the movies as they were originally released.

The disconnect with his audience is what made him seem like a "genius" that lost his way.

Oh man, imagine a FFXII prequel with Jar Jar.

Well, Kitase has cited Lucas as one of his greatest inspirations, no shock that he follows him to a t, prequels and all. :P

So basically, SE is the Game Industry's George Lucas? 0_o

Dirge of Cerberus basically made both Cloud and Sephiroth shitty compared to Vincent and Genesis. This was unavoidable in trying to continue a told story, but still, it cheapens FF7.

FFX-2 basically made a complete story about love and loss into a half told story about bringing the dead back to life, or something. And then Tidus kills himself by kicking a bomb disguised as a blitzball. So uh...

FF4 The After Years was just unnecessary and lazy.

And then you can decide whether FF13's sequels were worth creating...

Wasn't Sakaguchi a big star wars fan to begin with as well?

There was a lot of SW influence in early FF. Hell, just look at the fact that there are reoccurring NPCs even named "Biggs and Wedge".

I always thought the story was a little confusing, it was set up to make Shinra the big bad guys, then you end up following around what I'm assuming was a clone of Sephiroth created by a ripoff of Lavos from Chromo Trigger. Was not impressed with the story in the original; character designs, environment, music and battle customizability are top notch though. Hopefully they use this remake to patch up the story.

If anyone is worried about goof scenes in this game, they should have no trouble with it. Final Fantasy 14 has absolutely hilarious and goofy scenes,.

For me, FFVII and FFX will probably always begin and end with FFVII and FFX. Compilation is not to my taste at all and FFX-2 destroyed my favorite ending in gaming.

The good news is, I'm in control of my mind and my perception, and I have had no difficulty whatsoever establishing my own hands-over-my-ears canon that disregards all those sequels and spinoffs for over a decade.

We need a translation patch already.

get Sony to do the writing again please..... Square-Enix is so bad at it

Mmmh... Maybe because English is not my native language but.... That sentence kinda makes sense to me...? At least if I translate it directly to Spanish ("Lo legendario se vuelve real") it is a correct sentence.

it would be ok if it was "legend" instead of "legendary"

and probably change real to reality

legendary becomes real -> legend becomes reality

i'm norwegian so i don't know 100%, but i think this is right

You're right, it is technically correct English, but I think it was supposed to be "The fantasy has become reality."

Same underlying meaning, but the word choice used in the trailer is a bit less obvious and misses the play on Final Fantasy XV's tagline. Also when said out loud it sounds kind of clunky and awkward.

It sounds strange because it's a statement of admiration, rather than a more conventional, better-paced sentence.

"The legendary becomes real." The legendary Cloud, the legendary Barret, Aerith, Tifa, Sephiroth. FFVII's status is legendary. Now that legendary status comes back to life.

Y'all ain't wrong -- it sounds stupid. It's at least mildly grounded in sense, though. But the type of sense that just doesn't translate well. It should have said legend.

It works as it is. It's describing something as legendary and saying it "becomes real" in the game, which is grammatical. However, it doesn't appear smooth to a native English speaker, I agree.

It's the same as saying, "The mythical becomes real." That's perfectly fine. I just think it is a little stilted.

There's a parallelism in the phrase that works. Legendary is an adjective, and so is real.

I have you know Square do excellent translations!

That was Sony actually lmao.
Either
Legendary -> Legend
or
Becomes -> Become

Yep.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm not a native speaker but I read it as "what was legendary becomes now real".

Purely semantically it does read *correctly* but it is inappropriate choice of words and should not be used like that in practice.

It does make sense in the most literal way to use grammar/semantics.

But it's not appropriate use of these words in practice.
Wasn't Sony doing the translation the exact reason why the original game's localization was what it was?

Yep the first localization for the first print of FF VII was Sony.

It is actually very good overall, despite the several grammar errors in the full game (most of which were corrected on the PC version, and the 2012 Steam re-release, and probably the PS4 release too).

The one that is truly really bad is the one where Sony did not yet edit the English translation.... which is the Final Fantasy VII demo.... the writing is atrocious in that one.

This was always my favourite spelling/grammar error lmao:

Afaik, lgendary is the adjective to the implied subject in the sentence, and so the verb should be the bare uninflected form without -s suffix agreement.

wat? You serious bro?
Yes. I mean I played the shit out of the game, but it was never mentioned. Tho, might have been due to the german translation, I don't know. I have played the english version a shit ton as well, but I can't remember how it was handled there. At some point, I realized it, but not sure if it was while I was playing the game or somewhere else.

I mean, in the game she just looks like a normal young dude with a bandana:

I blame the detail lacking graphics!

It actually sounds cool in a sort of Shakespeare grammatical error sense. I'd say it would be better if becomes was made singular though.

But yes, it technically is grammatically sound. It just sounds weird.

Thanks to all that replied about the phrase.

So... If it was "The legendary remake becomes real"... Would that be correct?

Yea that's perfectly fine. Legendary is an adjective so it can't really be used in the sentence.

Or "The Legend Becomes Real" which is what they were most likely going for.

Legend or Legends or Legendaries on the other hand are nouns which would make more sense (to different degrees of course...).

"The Legendary Become Real" also makes sense as someone posted earlier, because you could consider the use of Legendary as a plural noun in that context.

It could have just been a simple typo, like when we get spelling errors/wrong words on game boxes.

I made some really dumb gifs

Those are awesome, great job!

#TeamJapaneseVoiceActing

Lol whose like me and already decided to turn on Japanese voice acting immediately when we get the game?
