Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

Kitase, and I think Tabata, did say the different FF development teams see one another as rivals of sorts and are all competing to make the best FF games.

Nomura has raised the bar quite high with this trailer. Tabata will have to step up his game now (no pun intended) because I don't think a few screenshots, puzzling tweets and vague interviews are going to generate the same level of excitement as this trailer did.

There is a huge FFXV event in March. (Or atleast a big reveal)

100% agree.

Zack's death in CC was over dramatic as fuck and way too damn shonen anime.

The death scene was mostly due too Last Order, apparently there was such a negative reaction and vitriol to how they handled Zack death (non-canon, off screened and in one second) that they got alot of bad fan mail and such for that some higher ups wanted the scene as dramatic as it was as an apology for the Last Order.

The way his death plays out is actually pretty genius from a gameplay standpoint, but I still preferred the swift headshot as depicted in the original and Last Order.

I think it works to show how fucked up of a death it is better, too. You have this upbeat, heroic character, and he gets quickly gunned down like a dog in the middle of nowhere. That's infinitely more tragic in my eyes.

Hope someone at SquareEnix reads, agrees with and implements this in the final game.lol

Well said.

Wedge especially... god damn. Brutal. I don't think he's actually
going to fall in the remake. He'll probably get shot or already be on the ground when Cloud arrives.

At this point the question that I want to know the most, is how they handle the overworld. I hope they can recapture the moment when you leave Midgar for the first time. I really hope they stick with an actual "overworld". Something like Ni No Kuni did

I wouldn't mind and would actually prefer if they went this route. Ni No Kuni had a beautiful over world and it really represents that old school feel when your party enters a new town or dungeon and the scene switches to render that specific asset. Would save them tons of time and would streamline the ability to capture the entire game in all its glory.

FF7 was actually surprisingly realistic.

Oh, man, that's one of the many things that drove me batty about CC. The gameplay mechanic leading up to it was more affecting than the actual moment.

Yeah his death seems more Trauma inducing in the original.Like fuck he died a dog's death, deal with it cloud.

No angels, little lights and passing of the torch. Its just treacherous murder.

I wonder if they can keep such a scene in the remake.I doubt it.

The best of it: Cloud didn't fucking cared, he just grabbed the sword and raised it like "fuck u I'm finally a SOLDIER".

Going that route makes so much sense for this game. Airship is actually a huge part of this game.

Yeah, I don't remember that scene being such a big deal in the original. Probably be a lot more pronounced in this version though.

It's weird, I remember not being a big deal at the time because I was sure they were gonna survive somehow; like, I didn't gave it enough attention because I didn't think there would be any consequences.

And then the plataform fell and I was like "...wah", but still in denial.
And then Barret gets all emotional and I'm like "damn... they're really dead..."

Anyone else think the final game might cut some content from the original to "streamline" the experience?

I can see that happening. I'm wondering what parts of the game could be sacrificed without me caring too much too.

Town wise I could see them cutting:

-Fort Condor
-Bone VIllage
-Costa Del Sol
-Gongaga (probably not though due to the focus on Zack in post-FFVII productions)

Some dungeons could probably go too or be heavily abridged and I can see them cutting boss fights. There were some sections of the game where the pacing was weird because you were being thrown continuously into boss fights (Temple of the Ancients, I'm looking at you).

I don't think I mind this too much.

I would be so surprised and shocked if any part was missing! We start talking cuts, and they will CUT in the name of streamlining. Let's not forget, this is the Square Enix Trump Card. They get record FFVII sales and will do so if they commit to it, and respect their developers too! I also would be terribly disappointed if the censorship is at a 'Disney' level where the only thing dark about the game is the steampunk atmosphere.
You do it right Square Enix, and I will throw my wallet at you!

It was quite dramatical yet effective, maybe the tech on PS1 kinda limited it's potential, but I think that's why it worked so well.

I hope they don't go overly dramatic or cheesy.

I'm happy to see SE using UE4 for all these games.

But if UE4 is so simpler to work, why we dont have several released games using it? This generation started two years ago.

I dunno, there's a part of me which thinks that streamlining this would make this a more impactful remake. I'm not talking streamlining like FFXIII (god no), but removing some of the fluff.

It's all down to individual taste. I can look at the worldmap and see a handful of locations that I wouldn't be too fussed about if they were cut.

I will be the first to admit is that some of this is useless filler that needs to either be re-purposed or trimmed down.

Costa del Sol is one of the most fun and less "serious" part of the game, filled with little details and jokes and actually helps give the game a more adventure feel.

Gongara is a little sidequest that helps the game to shake up a bit things and make it less linear that in its. Same with Fort Condor and others.

So no, thanks. No streamline shit on FF7, is not like the game is really that open.

Well obviously not those parts silly, but areas like that random weapon guy who doesn't sell weapons who is in the bum fuck middle of nowhere... he can be moved somewhere else.

Amen.

OG Zack demise is the best.

If they go for a fully realized seamless world map, I hope they increase the number of unique locations, but yeah some parts of the game should be definetly expanded or eliminated (like that guy on the middle of nowhere that only sleeps there)

Round Island
Goblin Island
Quadra Magic
Fort Condor (controversial)
Mime
Chocobo Sages House
Cactus Island

I wouldn't be too fussed about those.

FFXV has a ocean with boat traversal. If they can transition that worldmap over to VII then I can feel some confidence in this releasing within 2017. They already transitioned the Noctis wall shimmy animation in to the remake, so they are probably are looking at saving time by borrowing elements.

Only one of those I agree with is Fort Condor. I like the fact that there's little, out of the way islands and areas that can only be found with the airship or a certain color Chocobo. I miss those kinds of secrets in RPGs.

You mean those strategy guide selling scams.

I kid/

Same, we need more secrets like that, no less, although they could make some of these proper locations/dungeons.

Also Fort Condor RTS minigame is kinda fun, I hope they improve it instead of removing it.

I wonder what would generate more controversy - cutting areas out of the game, or relegating them to DLC. At the very least, I can imagine the Gold Saucer being infested with microtransactions.

Yes please!

If anything more, new secrets would be nice.

As for the minigames, they could easily hire any small studio to polish them up and keep them in the game.

The vastness of VII is an important part of the game.

Sorry to rain on your parade guys ,but....

CC was terrible!

Hope they make FF7R without any consideration of that trash.

I liked CC a lot when I played through it. The only thing that bothered the crap out of me was how they had to add in Angeal and Genesis. They weren't needed at all and they add nothing to the overall story of FF7.

I could have been okay with it if FF7 at least had some kind of connection with them, like names in a report or something. But they are so obviously shoehorned in.

The Kingdom Hearts combat makes me really really happy. Add to this being able to switch characters, and you can really do some cool things in combat. I think Nomura will employ his initial Versus XIII plan of combos lasting over multiple character switches.

Only concerning thing is that DEFEND command. Trying to switch to the defend command using the d-pad while an enemy charges up a quick attack would be clunky. KH usually has shortcuts for magic and items, so those wouldn't be a problem, but this DEFEND command needs some sort of a shortcut button.

I wouldn't overanalyse any of the combat HUD. That looks like a placeholder.

I wanted to say i still don't believe it by the way lol..

What i mean is.; When you see the level of production value there, the models, the characters, the backgrounds, the city..

I can't still see nowadays SE, already struggling with some dev hell and probably budget hell for FFXV, doing all of FFVII in that quality. When you think of the content in this game, all the bosses, the cut scenes, the locations, the enemies... It's just insane.

Also something a little sad is that, even with a semi action game, when i see those closed environments, predetermined enemies etc... It feels so much more fun than wandering endlessly with infinite enemies poping out in FFXV..

Maybe this game will make SE realize high budget FF is perfectly fine not being an open world... They control their shit way better like that.
