Friend Point summons are worthless as team members just to let you know. They are fodder for selling and a few have some worthwhile trust mastery rewards...which you will learn about.
Friend point summons are low tier units. Although a few have useful TMs (trust mastery) You want to be doing rare summons, and that way you have a chance of getting a really good unit.
Your permanent team is a party of 5, and 6 with a friend. You will always bring someone along, unless there is a trial requirement that you have a smaller party. Honestly, some of the bosses pretty much require that you have a full party as each character will fulfil a purpose. Equally, bringing a friend also lets you try out the units you don't have.
You don't need to spend money in this game to have fun. Although you need to be realistic when you are pulling, and use your lapris wisely.

Yup. Beyond the agonizing choice of what TMs to chase next, is the despair that follows when looking at a set of empty TMs and realizing how long it will take to complete them.
What just blows my mind is why people with upwards of 15-20k points are still grinding out Frosty runs. Doesn't make any sense at all. There's nothing more to gain in the event.
I'm feeding all the DEF, HP, and SPT pots to WoL in anticipation of his future - he will be my go-to Tank for almost everything. Going to ride that boy HARD for all the Hell he put me through before pulling him
You better make him "pay" for all the grief he caused you being a harsh tease months ago. Karma can be quite harsh in return...
Still trying to figure out what's a good balance for lapis spending versus natural regeneration to avoid blowing out the lapis account too quickly. If I'm not careful, TM grind will get to be quite expensive very quickly.
Decided that I'm going to focus on shaping m Elza in to a deathly dark diva, but with only one copy of many key TMs, this is going to be a long and costly training session.
Okay thanks. I ended up using my 13 summoning tickets before I read this post, but I haven't spent any of the Lapis yet.
I got a couple of 4 star units, including a duplicate. Should I fuse duplicates together?

Welcome to the thread and the community!
In order of presentation:
1) Work on clearing story mode first. This will give you access to a key number of basic equipments and spells/abilities as well as unit awakening materials.
1a) When you reach Grandshelt Castle and unlock the arena, work on the Colosseum to unlock even more gear for free.
2) A couple basic pulls to fill out your team is fine for now, but as others have mentioned, there are no good units to pull at featured rates not now (until at least Friday at the earliest). You won't god-tier units to clear story mode and early to mid Colosseum.
3) Beginner's Guide: Click Me. It's a little dated at this point, but still generally valid.
3a) Yes. Unlike other Gacha games, the amount of free premium pulls is quite high. As a result you can expect to create at least a mid-tier team relatively easy over time from just free and daily half-priced pulls. Outside of Elite (ELT) difficulty and perhaps some extreme end-game trials, a solid F2P team can clear pretty much everything. Even then, with the assistance of some of the very powerful friend units in this community, even the hardest difficulties can be overcome (and often are on a weekly basis).
Feel free to ask the community any questions that you want. We were all there at one point in the game, and many of us like to help each other out as best as can contribute to the Exvius-GAF community.

What are the actual units you pulled?
Check the OP or Exvius Wiki for tips.
If you are still early in the game, consider restarting your game until you summon a good/great character. (Rerolling)
Save your Lapis for now. Wait for a good character Rate Up event to use it.
Yes this game is fun even if you don't spend money.
I did 13 summon ticket pulls and got 2 4 star charolettes and a 4 star santa roselia.. Should I reroll?
I'm a little past Siren for reference.

What else did you get? Stars are largely irrelevant as a lot of great units can be 3* but be upgraded to 6*.
Also if you do reroll I wouldn't use the Christmas summon I would use the one that says Rare Summon as the Christmas units aren't all that great in the end. I would honestly reroll until you pull 1 of either Noctis/Luneth/Gilgamesh/Lightning.

That's reasonable, but not exceptional. Charlotte is a solid mid-tier tank, and Santa Roselia is a high-tier healer.
You could run with it for now and hope to pull some either physical or magical DPS on future banners.
On the other hand, Siren is very, very early in the game and re-rolling could be an option. That said, there isn't exactly and featured strong damage units on the banner right now, so it would probably take a lot of re-rolls to pull something good by raw random chance.
What were your 3* pulls? There are some very strong units (either via the unit themselves or through their trust master rewards) that come from blue crystals. An analysis of them would be a good idea before throwing the existing account to the wind for a re-roll.

I would definately be pulling for Prince. He'd probably be the most difficult one to get.
I didn't pull Fencer and I'm not rejoicing. Just patiently awaiting until she pops back up. Ariana != a replacement for Fencer.

I don't mind rerolling under a new banner.. The game seems to throw several summoning tickets at you in the beginning.

I this this needs to be expanded upon as he's a new player. There are a lot of good units that are 3*, but stars do matter. The higher the units * base level the better they generally are. A 5* base character will almost always be better than a 4* base character, who is usually better than 3*. Equally, the higher the base level the less likely you are to pull them.
A character is not limited to their base level, so a 3* can become 6* and be competitive in the meta. However, they won't be as good as a 5* who has become 6*.

Firion while not worthy at the moment is a beast when he gets his 6* in a few months or whatever. Otherwise nothing particularly outstanding so I would reroll if you are up for it. Keep in mind 5* base are so low that it could take "awhile" to pull one if you go for one of the ones I mentioned.

Hence the word "Largely" but no offense pulling a 5* Lani doesn't mean you pulled a great unit which is also why I asked him what else he pulled.....
I know, long story short I just thought it was worth point out that there base level does matter, because as you've said, there are troll characters out there!
When I click on the rare summon banner, it automatically takes me to Christmas?
So.. I'm going to reroll until I have 500 lapis.. Is there a list of characters I should be happy with pulling? And if I don't get one of those, I try again right?
What is a good benchmark for rerolls (units, stars, etc)? And I can reroll all day, the time isn't really an issue as I work from home the next couple days and can just reroll mindlessly while I work.

Pretty much what Hippo said. Outside of Firion, who in the future, will be useful, nothing on that list (in terms of unit potential) is terribly exciting.
So, you can re-roll or you can grind out a few more zones for the tickets in the early game and see what happens.

This might help a bit. Def, try to start with one of the Top Tier Phys. DMG Dealer and if possible a good healer + tank.
Especially units like Lightning and Luneth that learn Dual Wield without TMs should be your priority. For everything else the Gaffer will help you out.
I think it's just advertising the other banner. If you actually click the holiday banner it says boosted rates for those specific characters whereas the rare one doesn't =]

Hrmm.... that banner is really deceptive.
But looking at the banner sub-text, the Rare Summon banner appears to be the normal one (just with the Holiday units added in). The flavor text on the Rare Summon banner doesn't state that the Holiday units have boosted draw rates there (like it does on the Holiday Special banner).
Can you walk me through the reroll process? I have pretty much all day to do this. What exactly am I looking for? Do one summon and then reroll, or get lots of tickets and try?
According to the post above, I'm looking for Luneth, Lightning, Noctis, Gilgamesh or Elza? Any others?
I feel like pulling one per reroll looking for one of 5 characters will take forever!

Yeah, you still have a chance at the Holiday Units but they do not have a rate up. It does make it very deceptive however the way they set it up.

Hopefully someone can post a walkthough as it needs the use of a fake facebook account to log in and out of in the game. As for units use that link someone posted above. Physical Damage is the Meta I would roll until you have one of those first 4 listed as the 5th Elza is no longer able to be pulled. If you happen to magically pull one of those a Cecil and Refia in the same pull you are golden for a long long time.
Ahh okay yeah I just logged in and out of facebook and it started me over.
I'll keep rolling till I get one of those 4. Thanks for the help!

I hope that was a fake FB you logged into, if you plan on connecting your actual game when you get settled in to your FB. Otherwise you are screwed. I found out the hard way.
Well, you could then make a fake FB to keep your save, but that is far too much work for me. If something happens to my game and i lose everything, I'll be done.

They are for the New Year so maybe only today lol. Not sure though.
I think a bunch of my higher rank friends have been banned. I'm guessing for cheating as they were super active until recently, have gotten all the new natural 5*s; Noctis, White Night Noel. And suddenly they all stop on the exact same day.
The anti-cheating ban hammer seems to be working.
Either way, looking for new friends, I now have a half dozen open spots. Any rank or rep unit welcome. Have over a 100 TMs.
Can you add me? 419320639 Anyone else can add me as well. I'm starting to get my first TMRs and my first dual wield. No 5*' bases...but plenty of good 6*'s. Exdeath, COD, and Mercedes with high mag/att.
That's what I'm worried about. I'd feel better if the pool of characters I'd be good starting with were bigger than 4.

4 star Chizuru, Edge, Galuf and Vaan.. Reroll?
Chizuru is a good Dps unit. Maybe stick with this and see what the other draws are?
Otherwise, don't overthink Rerolling too much. You're going to get so much lapris from the story, story missions and colloseum that you're gonna be able to make loads of pulls on banners that have good units on them.
If I were starting out today, I would not stop rerolling until getting two of the following units, minimum
