Random but how many unit slots are people up to atm? I'm on 250/250, but over 20 slots are being taken up by moogles (with more to collect in my inbox).
Currently 210/280. I'd been riding close to the cap for quite a while but FV/DV (and Victoria) completely cleaned out my Pot stock (incl. all my Arena medals/tickets), so I'm back to having lots of room, which is nice. I don't keep multiple dupes for most TM units (exceptions: Jack, Grace/Vanille, Elle) and I don't let my unit inventory get clogged up with Smart Pots anymore.
As for the 5* discussion, non-whales just need to be picking and choosing their banners from here on out, I think.
I've said before that FFBE is a game about intelligently expanding your toolbox. In reality it's a game about funding gacha developers' yacht rides so you can watch nostalgia-inducing sprites kill rats on your phone in 34 day increments, but nevermind that...
My only 5* imperil-utilizing chainer is Orlandeau. Holy resist/immunity is smeared all over every trial boss like butter on a biscuit. Dark resist is honestly not much better, possibly worse, but my chances at Earth, Wind, Water and Ice have all come and gone. (Knight Delita isn't a real unit, sorry) Onion Knight has elements but no imperils. Veritas of the Light targets SPR but is also Holy. Prishe has no imperils. Nyx is fire, but he's about it for the next couple months. I also don't have Ace for enabling big-imperilled Fire/Thunder combos, or Marie. So...
Veritas of the Dark represented both a way for me to gain (questionable, granted) elemental coverage, but also leverage TMs I'd acquired (Deathbringer, Moonblade) and units (DKC, Orlandeau). Weapon diversity meant I could at least do true poverty elemental chains with Chirijiraden/Vernard or even utilizing Olive's Shattering Shot with two Raikiris. I also would gain freedom from "having" to bring a friend Orlandeau to chain with, enabling me to bring say, a Rem or a stacked OP friend Wilhelm (or Mistair or Basch or...) for future content.
Overthinking things? 100%. But you accumulate lapis and tickets and you have to spend it sometime or the game becomes uninteresting, even if it's objectively unwise to chase rainbows. So do research and spend at the best times for you, based on what units, TMs, and options you already have. And hope for the best.
2B, Prishe, Onion Knight, Veritas of the Light, Noctis (or Balthier...), Nyx, Roy, Duke - I'll not be chasing these units at all. They don't expand my toolbox in a sufficiently desirable way
for me, so even though they're good, gonna leave them on the table. Pull smart not hard, but if you're gonna pull hard, need to stay smart. Or just pull for whoever looks cool. There's a credible argument to make that the end result isn't much different, honestly.
Of course RNG can still bend you over the table, which brings me back to yacht rides...
