Final Fantasy IX now out on Android and iOS

£12.99? Fuck off.

umm what?!

Square actually put in a quite a bit of effort for this, remade models and textures along with a UI overhaul.

Plus this FF only ever came out on PS1, that would require more of a port job to other platforms. Never mind that you could easily get close to 100 hours out of this game alone.

The price is fine.

There's like 40+ there, I'm sorry if you disagree with the phrase "good chunk" but you'll notice I'm not advocating for them to be used so it's pretty meaningless semantics.

Yeah, it is. Point is, it's nowhere close to comprehensive enough for them to have done anything with. Modders could drop them in I'm sure (assuming they also went to the trouble to re-draw the foreground assets themselves), but what would be the point if they can't do them all?

£12.99 for a mobile port of a nearly 16 year old game that Square Enix probably won't support past one OS update if their track record is anything to go by.

What do you want it for? £2? £4?

£12.99 is perfectly reasonable. It feels like people go into a "complain mode" around here. Where they try find every reason to give out about a new release.

I'm just saying it's an option for people who want them. Again, not advocating for them to be used in an official release. Options are nice and there are plenty of people out there who would be happy with a mix of the higher res stuff that is out there and something like waifu2x.

It's totally up to players whether they'd want something like this, or some higher res stuff or whatever.

Who gives a shit how old it is? It's still a great game and it's still got dozens of hours of gameplay to offer. And it is, seemingly so far, a really nice port.

I haven't seen S-E have a problem with a lot of broken, dropped-support titles in the app stores, and particularly not for their bread-and-butter titles like this.

I can't the No Exp I was promised. Where is it?

The load times are very disappointing. The battle transitions are actually around 2-3 seconds slower than the PS1 version.

I wasn't impressed with the waifu2x renders; they do weird things to some of the objects in the environment like the flowers. But I'm sure you're right, someone will be convinced it's better and drop it in with a mod. Either way, I'm glad S-E didn't use a technique like that.

The black screen between battles is around 2.5~3 seconds on my iPad Mini 4. I remember the PSX version to be slower.

So from reading stuff

The four cheats on the pause menu include an infinite hp/mp button? I think ign calls it full meter? It maxes resources it combat lol

If so I'm definitely picking this up

It crashes when the initial battle on the ship starts on my phone.
Managed to see the battle scene once, now it just crashes during the black load screen.

Already requested a refund...

All you people crying about the price need to fuck off and go back to your little 99c games.

Quite harsh words there, but I don't disagree.

This is one of the games we're lucky to get on PC at all, and they did some good work in addition to just porting it so the price is 100% acceptable IMO.

Downloaded it on my iPhone and iPad, but I really wish square would stop adding in the one hit kill and healing boosters. It really devalues the game in a terrible way. I won't use them, but I still don't like that they're there.

What are you talking about. Square Enix has a good record of supporting Final Fantasy on iOS. They just recently updated all the games to support iOS 9, they even added universal support a month or so ago for 1 and 2, which were released many years ago.

I've beaten the game more than 10 times already, all legit and old school, I don't mind beating it this time around with cheats like no encounters. Fuck random entounters. Fuck long animations at the beginning of combats. Glory to free exploration and one hit KO bosses.

I usually have a lot of fun in FFVIII without fighting anyone once I get Diablo, I expect this to be the same.

This app is incompatible with all of your devices.
I didn't want to play it any way!

Hopefully it gets ported to something I have in the future.

Edit: Nevermind I guess that is American google play store in the OP which is why it wouldn't work.

yeah this. I've played this game more than any game before and I'll love the cheats this time.

Did SE told something about the PC release? I remember they told they would give a release date, but still the game released out of nowhere on iOS/Android.

It's not quite infinite. It works like the FF7 one in that it immediately heals you to full when you get hit, but a hit strong enough to kill you outright will still kill you.

btw, the price currently is 16.99€ and I've read something about a sale, that price is with or without the sale?

That price is without the sale.

I also don't understand all of the complaining in here. Of course it's the minority who's the loudest while the rest of us are enjoying it on our mobile devices.

To be accurate, some of the assets are long gone. There's a good chunk floating around out there, but presumably not all of it otherwise we would have seen it implemented.

I know I've repeated this a lot, but just because the assets exist in high res doesn't mean they're instantly ready to go.

They weren't just resized and chucked onto the PSX discs in two steps.

If the current price is the sale price, then it'll be about $30 Canadian after the sale ends.

I was hoping the sale price hadn't started yet. I have a decent amount of Google play points saved up, but this high is too rich for my blood.

A shame, as I've felt like playing it recently, and don't have a copy anymore.

I'm really disappointed that the game is still slow as fuck. I can't even be hopeful for the PC port anymore, hype decreased to I don't give a fuck anymore levels :(

If the sale is applied I might try it in Android as I really don't feel like playing a jrpg on the PC. On the phone it's another different story...

I guess I'm lucky that I don't feel the slowness. Maybe because it's my first playthrough. :)

This is the sale price. The person who did the AppStore page announcement translation simply did not take in to account the date difference. It is the 10th here in Japan, the price won't get cheaper. It's worth the 2500¥ and it's great I got it on sale for 2000¥.

Has anyone tried the game on an iPhone 5c? I'm curious about it but my device isn't recommended, so I'd like to know that beforehand to see if I buy it there of if I hold out for the Steam release.

Also I really don't get the complaints re: icons and font. Do people really think the font they used for Adventures of Mana is better than the one here, for example?

I wish we've got this version on Vita, with the touch menus optional, it would be awesome!.

But I don't trust square to maintain this in two iOS updates :S to get it on mobile.

$16.99 is the standard price of all of the other FF games Square has up. And it even says in the description the discount goes from the 10th, and considering today is the 9th...

10th is the launch date, games usually are up in other countries earlier. No other iOS FF game are $16.99.

$16.99 is the 20% off price.

What does the question mark in the upper-left corner indicate? Nothing seems to happen if I touch it.

Edit: Oh, I just noticed it functions the same as pressing the select-button on the PS1 game.
