"As of last check it remains in development, to my knowledge; but I need to a do a fresh check & see what a more current status is -- as I did hear a month or so ago that it was in trouble & possibly cancelled. I only had one source on the cancellation possibility and need to verify the info further."

Not sure if this has been discussed here yet but this would really suck if true. That would explain why this game has been all but confirmed for 4 years yet never announced.

I reject this reality.

At least we still have the DQ Remake, Final Fantasy Tactics (although it's shameful).

It's still so funny to me that they have those cool HD-2D remakes of other games, but FF Tactics remake just looks like a PS1 game. Tells me they wanted to allocate next to no budget to it.

tons of meltdown i see online is mind boggling. there is even folks on reddit goes aggresive like they already paid for preorder over this LOL.

remember, all the hype and hope originated from the leak. the company itself never said anything. different story if the game is officially announced.

thats why dont easily trust the leak. it could be true, or false. even if its true, remember anything can happen during development. anything can change. until there is a concrete evidence with official announcement, the stuff leaked basically can be considered 'never happened or existed'. there is a reason why company out there wont usually announce their project earlier before they reach certain stage in development. particularly Square Enix, who learned the hardway for their Fabula Nova Crystallis announcement at 2006. i dare say certainly there was tons of unknown cancelled unannounced project in industry that public never get the chance to moan since they never know till today.

Square Enix: Try to make a remake of FFIX for 4 years, fail and cancel the project

Sandfall Interactive: Form a tiny team of 32 people most of which never made a game before except the 3 founders who left Ubisoft, find a 25 years old amateur composer on Soundcloud, recruit a random from Reddit to write the script, grind it out for 5 years, and make the best RPG in many people's living memory

Why is Square Enix so shit?

Weird cause FF9 was a return to form after 8. Granted I didn't do much digging to get an idea of how other people felt about it. It was an impressive RPG back when the PS1 was still getting games behind the PS2. I have no idea why there's so much hate. Also this could be someone getting trolled by a SE employee. This remake could be genuine af.

I know FF9 is hugely popular amongst redditors or whatever but I don't know a single person in real life who thinks it's good. I don't even understand why Square would target it for a remake, it was never a huge seller and they need a hit

This totally sucks. I don't understand what they have been doing!? Isn't this supposed to be 2D-HD aka Octopath / Sea of Stars 2/ DQ 3 type remake?

They made at least half a dozen games in that style. What the hell happened!?

Ok I'll be the guy.

It's probably a good thing it's cancelled if they were gonna just butcher the second best Final Fantasy of the numbered entries like they did 7. I know a lot here love it, but the writing of FF7 remake is Kingdom Hearts level embarrassing cringe trash, and I don't trust modern Square to not fuck up everything they touch in at least some capacity, (particularly from a writing perspective), and I especially don't trust them to not fuck up remakes of beloved classics like this, Chrono Trigger, and FF 6. By the way guys, this game has essentially aged perfectly, particularly if you play the most recent port to modern platforms. It's beautiful from a visuals perspective still to this day due to the timeless prerendered backgrounds and the touched up character models in the most recent versions, so I'd say just play the classic again on modern platforms if you're jonesing for it.

I honestly can't for the life of me figure out why everyone wants remakes of everything, even the games that don't need them. Ya know what pile of shit game needs a remake? 8. FF 8 has a great story, likable characters, (other than Squall), and interesting world building that's ruined by dog shit gameplay; that's a great candidate for a remake folks.

I'm not against remakes in general, hell I love em, but remakes should be used to give classic titles a chance to fulfill their potential, not to tarnish the legacy of games that are already nearly perfect, Like 9, 6, Chrono Trigger, and to be honest I'd normally have said Tactics as well but I'm pleased to see that the port coming soon seems to be just an enhanced port rather than a rewrite or reimagining so I'm actually excited for it.

That's the way: enhanced ports for the truly brilliant entries that you know they'll just fuck up with their modern writing and anime level voice acting, and remakes of the games that missed the Mark the first time due to some silly design choices.....or at least that's my opinion anyway. That strategy has the added benefit of carrying far less risk of social backlash as well, I mean it's a win-win situation here.

AFAIK all we heard about it was that it wasn't going to be like FF7 Remake where it was massively different from the original. Lots of us speculated on what that meant but we didn't get any more details.

Well the first DQ trilogy is a gigantic nostalgia bait for most of Japan and it will sell millions like the DQ3 remake, when FF Tactics was never a sales success to begin with. But it shows how scared SE is when they don't want to invest a bit more on a classic like Tactics.

Whether you like FFIX or not isn't the point — the fact that Square Enix has been struggling to remake it for years says a lot about the company's decline.

They're out of touch with their fans and no longer know how to manage a dev team like they used to.

Well, on the other hand we have had two quite good Octopath games, Triangle Strategy, Live a Live, Tactics Ogre, Sea of Stars 2 (very good), Diofield Chronicles, DQ 3 and I am probably missing something.

FFIX in that presentation style with a modicum of QoL improvements could have done quite well. And SE clearly has a lot of experience in releasing these sorts of titles.
