When something like that happens it usually means they had an idea it wouldn't go over well. SE figured it was better to spend a few months being called heroes than risk spoiling the hype from the start.
I don't think I said anywhere they would need to avoid reusing assets. If I made that impression, I'm sorry. It's impossible to avoid that in game development. What I meant was that they have a lot of unique assets in every location. Like someone said before, if you update for inflation the costs for FF VII, it turns into the equivalent of US$ 67 million. The Witcher II cost around US$ 10 million. I don't know how much its sequel cost and I'm sure it was way more, but imagine that for FF VII with static rendered backgrounds and no voice acting (and localization)? No one is saying they'd never reuse that, we're just saying that the amount of crazy different architectures and styles that exist in FF7 absolutely dwarfs most modern games, which stick to a very similar aesthetic so they can get more bang for their buck. You've got country bumpkin type towns, huge industrial cities, asian architecture in Wutai, a giant casino, you've got deserts and snow and trees and all of that together in one game.

personally i can accept this being devided into 3 or 4 parts, as long as ultimately the experience is the same or better than the original, i seriously hope we can revisit areas later in the game for example, or that subsequent parts follow a similar structure to the ps1 games in that changing the disk would be a direct continuation of story, gameplay, etc

Never said it won't, but the original game does have very differing areas. NPD_muclair stated adjusted for inflation FF7 back then would cost like 67 million to make now and people want a 1:1 faithful remake.
Konami let Kojima go over a supposed 80 million dollar budget for MGSV. At the end of the day SE is a business out to make money and I'm sure they don't want another Versus situation or for this game to take 5-6 years to make.
There are concerns about all of this that are valid but in this instance this is the reality of AAA JRPG's. There is no promise this game will sell 15-20 million. Hell it's no promise it'll sell close to 10 million.
I agree with many of your points but the problem is if the multi parts nature of the project will still allow to preserve the open world nature and free exploration with free backtracking aspects of the original game.
While it's true that even in the original there was a progression system in the freedom of exploration with many things locked early on, it will still be very hard to achieve what FFVII achieved with a fragmented experience which makes more sense for linear cinematic experience with no backtracking.
Btw I'm waiting for the interviews and further details.

That seems to say pretty clearly that they split up the main game into multiple parts because they wouldn't be able to cram everything into one game, rather than having one main game and a bunch of spin-offs.
They're adamant to recreate the full experience, and then some (there'll be some surprises for the people who are already familiar with the story), but apparently that requires splitting it up.
I'll reserve judgment until I see how they're going to handle this in terms of pricing and releases.

It makes an awful hell of a lot of sense why Midgar looked so far along at PSX now. Obviously that is "episode 1" it'll likely end as soon as you leave Midgar

I guess I'm good at waiting anyway. Was going to get the PS3 Kingdom Hearts ports but now I'm biding my time to see if SE will release them again on PS4, just so that I can have the whole thing so far playable on the same system.
I'm actually ok with this, i don't want 1 rushed game with alot of things removed, if you guys don't want to buy 2 or 3 games wait 6+ years to get the complete thing.

If it's an issue of budget and scope resulting in the episodic release (which I believe it is and in part hoping is the reason for the structure), then they'll just have to make each subsequent episode bigger in file size if they want to be true to the older games.
Technically, they should have no hurdles on that front with the advent of mandatory storage space on consoles.

Square always finds a way to disappoint people. Played me like a fiddle. I was all giddy with the trailer. Now I'm gonna buy episodic discs at retail and have six discs comprising one game? Or maybe it'll be digital only until all episodes are done and they release the full package on disc?
