Final Fantasy VII Remake Will Be Over 100 GB

The game will be chock full of cutscenes, and those will be pre-rendered mostly. 4k uncompressed video isn't small. I was expecting this.

Sounds good to me, my hard drive is ready!

I'm not surprised.

FF15 with the 4k texture pack and all DLC is over 130 gigs on PC.
That makes me wonder. 15 was a full open world game, full of side quests and so on, so, what did they add in this first part that makes it be almost as big as 15 in filesize? As far as we know, it's only midgar, wich isnt a huge part of the original, this also makes me wonder how much "filler" they put in this first part to make it seem like a full final fantasy on it's own.

It's a massive misconception to think that game world size has a big impact on storage space.

Audio, textures, models, cutscenes, animations, redundant data, and so on are responsible for most of it.

Insane if it's not the FULL FFVII game. You're gonna need a hell of a lot storage space to play the other episodes.

Time to remind people that most games in the seventh gen consoles were between 8 and 16 GB, expect even bigger sizes for ninth gen consoles especially AAA games, I expect about the same size for Cyberpunk too.

No surprise, the production values on this game are through the roof. Just include two discs like RDR2 did and everything's okay.
Didn't see it says 2 discs on the case, good game is playable offline.

2 discs? Why?

Is this a collector's edition?
Blu-ray only holds up to 50gb.

So if it's over 100gb that means two discs PLUS a required "patch" (aka portion of the game).

Edit: oh shit I think I am/was mutuals with that Twitter poster.

Where does this leave us with next gen games.
Can we upgrade the ssd or is there still hdd in the console and will it load from hdd to ssd per game?
I feel 1 or even 2 tb just wont be enough and more so for the ones who went full digital.

I'll be honest, that actually bumps up my excitement and expectations factor. It either means it'll be epic as hell and a new greatest ever FF contender, or it'll be a bloated, unoptimized piece of poop. Either way, it promises interest!

i hope there isnt a mandaatory day 1 patch, that would make me skip the game

This is Current Gaming Gen. You can almost guarantee it will require one.

Sen no Kiseki IV did and that is not even a AAA or western game.

Sure, but RDR 2 and most all the other games i have didnt.
You got lucky.

Most games do that I have or at the least "strong recommend" a patch to get the game playable without major hiccups, i.e. serious frame rate issues (cough Evil Within cough)

Edit: I believe FFXV required day one patch.

The only one that i own and it was reccomended to us the day 1 patch is spiderman, but i could play the game fine without it. the rest, gravity rush2, nier, god of war, RE2Remake, bloodborne, yakuza kiwami 1 and, yakuza 6, the last of us, horizon zero dawn and uncharted 4 all were perfect for me, and they are all AAA games

RDR2 had a 3gb day one patch that Rockstar "strongly recommended"

Sure, but i played well enough without it. Didnt find any bugs or performance issues, outside of the big city, but that's the place where the fps goes down no matter what.

We should all expect more upcoming AAA games to do that. I won't be surprised when GTAVI ends up being 2 discs as well. I mean even The Last Of Us 2 is 2 discs.

Something tells me this is more likely due to bad asset compression than due to actual content. It also helps them justify their multiple part strategy from a PR standpoint.

everybody ready for the inevitable patches and therefore the need to COPY OVER THE WHOLE 100+GB OF DATA FOR EACH UPDATE AND SIT THERE FOR AN HOUR JUST TO INSTALL A 30MB PATCH?

Oh boi I know I am! >_<
this update shit it legit a major reason why I play less and less stuff on PS4.
sucks that this is a timed exclusive :(

Ugh, don't say that. I stopped playing the PS4 version of FF14 because everytime I would load the game it would take 30 minutes to install a 10mb patch.

It was said that the PS5 will give people the option to install certain portions of games (multiplayer, single player, for example) to save space. And then there are multiplayer-only games like COD4 and singleplayer-only games like this that show that your space is fucked no matter what :messenger_pensive:

legit the only game I still play on PS4 at the moment is Apex Legends and only because of the friends I play it with being PS4 owners...

and that game alone annoys me enough with its updates that I'm fed up.
the other day there was a 130MB update that took 3sec to download AND I KIDD YOU NOT 35min to install... the whole group had to stop playing, and sit there for more than half an hour because of a 130MB patch.

I barely buy any PS4 or Xbox One or any current gen games due to this shit.

lighting consumes everything

the file sizes on the maps i'm working on right now are like 50 gigs each

And this is why I'm a bit skeptical of SSDs in the next generation of consoles. Unless they are 2 terrabytes, it's not going to be enough.
