Final Fantasy XII new video ~~~

It's a quite small video but there's some great CG, I think you can also see chocobos in it... the explosion scene looks amazing !

Cinematics...but some were still in game. I mean, it was obvious when some things were CG and other things looked like the in-game engine rendered them.

Man this game better live up to the hype after so long...

does anyone know the story of the game? i dont understand, theres some kind of war or something, and some girl is gettiong married... demo was aweomse, but whats the story about?

Also, is it me or does this game look like it has more tragedy than other FFs? The theme song certainly sets the stage for some sadness.

Interestingly enough, I feel more positive about the game after the demo. I was a bit worried that I wouldn't like the battle system, but it's fine.

Knowing Matsuno, I don't think there'll be many people left in Ivalice by the end of it all

Angsty kid gets caught up in something bigger than he could imagine...love somewhere in there...bad guy with ridiculous hair...plot twist (or 2)...meaning of stuff...end of the game.

(still going to play it)

Unless they completely replace the battle system, and "OMG stay out of that enemy's line of sight" Metal-Gear-esque radar, I'm not going to enjoy it all that much.

GOD the demo sucked. Oh well, I'm too much of a fanboy not to buy it. :(

Ok I'm going to summarize what we DO know from all the articles and previews so far. Putting it in spoiler text in case some people want a complete blackout plot-wise.

In the world of Ivalice, there is a tiny country named Dalmasca that lies strategically between the conquering Archadian Empire and the Kingdom of Rosalia. The king of Dalmasca arranges a marriage between his only dauhter, the Princess Ashe, and a young man he sees fit to lead his kingdom in future. Unfortunately, as the Archadian warpath against Rosalia heats up, the king secretly sells out his country to the Empire hoping to save as many lives as possible. One of his lead generals, discovers this, rebels amid the chaos and slays the king before he is captured by the invaders and imprisoned as a traitor and shamed before his own people.

Three years after the invasion, Dalmasca is firmly in the arms of the Archadian Empire and Ashe is leading an underground rebel crew in hopes of retaking her kingdom from Archadian rule. Vaan is a young man who grew up in the poorer market sectors of Dalmasca with his friend Penelo, he dreams of being a sky pirate one day and escaping the confines of his rotting home country.

One fateful day, Vaan is arrested for theft/fraud while running one of his usual illegal jobs in the city and is thrown in prison. There he meets the sky pirate Balthier who, along with his assistant Fran will help him escape.

From then on the information on the story is vague (for good reason) but we do know that Vaan meets Ashe somewhere between his imprisonment and escape and that later on the party discovers that the Judges that rule the Archadian Empire are seeking out Crystals as a natural energy source to power their weapons and technology (and probably more). As they encounter the crystals mines they will also discover the Broken Crystals which can be used to bind a contract with a higher being to summon them in times of aid. Ashe is determined to use this as a means to reclaim her kingdom.

There's a shitload of stuff I'm skipping because they REALLY border on being real spoilers, so yeah, the plot is at least as complex, dark and deep as FFT and Vagrant Story.

This game seems to have a gazillion CG scenes...is it going to come out in just 1 DVD? :P

That video was really nice, hell, I even I liked the song.

Good stuff.

I liked the demo. The combat was good overall, I still think FFX-2 combat is the best in the series but this is, afterall, an actual FF game and it'll be a long time before we see FF13 so we better enjoy this one...

have you played the FF12 demo? The battles suck because all you do is run up to a creature, hit x, then wait until it dies.

ok just finished reading it and i have some questions

1) Why would the King's lead general kill him since he was pissed that he betrayed his kingdom to save his king from being known as a traitor and a prisoner?Wouldn't letting him being captured be just as good? If its a spoiler just tell me before the answer.

2) Who invaded Dalmasca and why?

3) What happened to Ashe's wife?

Also is there some popular fan site for this game yet?

you didnt get to a boss fight did you. You def. can't just press X once. And even if you say you heal and attack for a boss fight, how is that any different from other FF??? Stop your cryin

If anything it adds since now you can move during a fight. Everything else is the same

Beautiful.

Ant, what benefits are derived from moving around in battle? Does distance play into damage or anything like that? I've played the demo a little, but I didn't seem to notice anything.

The less loading times for the PS2, the better off everyone is.

Although I like the DQVIII oldschool battle system, but the load pause at the end of a fight is rather annoying.

The distance between enemy and yourself judge if you can hit it or if it can hit you. And with range attacks like arrows, you can hit a enemy afar with high agro. before it attacks you.(since it cant see you since your far away)

I just want to know how does it make the game worse? if you dont like it, do you really have to complain and make fun of it? I dont like mustard, but everytime its brought up in a conversation i dont start dissing it. ..... mustard... yuck

I did.

because I never pressed X once in the older FF games.

Moving does nothing. You can't dodge attacks or anything so it's pretty much pointless.

FALSE. Spells have range effects now. Being in the way of Aero, for example, hurts you as well. You can also use ranged attacks to attack Agro- enemies without them attacking you.

Let's be realistic, it's possible to play every Final Fantasy by jamming on the X button. I'm a HUGE FF fan (anyone on the board has read my fanatical post history regarding FF7), but let's be serious. You can jam on X in this one or you can strategize, retreat, and use spells. You can do everything you could always do. The movement factor adds a new dimension to the combat and with wait mode on...you practically have old style combat. All you need to do is stop the gameplay every turn...perhaps that would be an option in the game.

im sure you beat a boss just by pressing X once.

what? sp you pressed X 3 times(meaning you attack 3 times) you would think people would be happy that now it does what you wanted to do without you having to press it every time..

In some ways, I agree. I certainly won't miss random encounters (Chrono Cross and FF12 have it right), but I will be nostalgic for some turn based battles. I did like FF12 when I played the demo and I really thought it was a faster game and it was more refreshing.

I play FF for the story anyway, not the mechanics. The mechanics are better, though. I am really, really hyped for this game.

feel the same way here. Im hoping they switch off from ff12 battle system to older battle system from now on. Both are great in own ways. I dont see why to diss one. If you dont like it, you dont have to say anything, because i dont think anyone cares. i think

I don't mind random battles, it's more the whole going to a separate battle screen thing that annoys me.

I've never understood why rpgs with random battles don't let players set the encounter rate. It's not really about difficulty, especially with the save points that also heal you totally. It's more about the player choosing to prioritise certain parts of the game at different times. When I'm exploring, particularly retracing my steps through an area where the enemies are pathetically weak I want minimal to no encounters. When I want to level up then I want encounters so frequent that they pratically come one after the other.

For that purpose I'd rather just stay on a battle screen and fight until I decide I'm done. ;)

Maybe have the game set a level for me. You should be level 35 here, fight six battles and the encounter rate automatically rebalances.

I really hope this is good. x_x

I was shocked to see how bad the demo was. Active Mode was far too hectic and it felt like I wasn't even controlling the character. Wait Mode was a little better but it still felt like the game was being played for me. It really felt like FFXI, but offline. :(

Fucking amazing music though.
