FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 |OT| Change the Future

Yeah bit more dubious about this one. Best case for me is the '2nd' card game is something like triple triad, and Sazh has quests to fight some new bosses to get some rare cards.... but probably not ;)

The second card game is just poker. The first card game is the unique one they designed and created for FFXIII-2.

He's actually a part of a quest that begins in Bresha Ruins 100AF.

Bresha Ruins 100AF? Ugh, no wonder I got nowhere jumping around from one timeline of Yaschas Massif to another. How was I suppose to know that it's part of Bresha Ruins' quest?

Thank you very much, however!

You don't have to know. You'll find out it's connected when you eventually do that quest. He's not related to any other quest in Yaschas Massif itself.

There actually is a warning. You see "Count 2", "Count 1" and then boom. There's about 5-10 seconds between the intervals. That is the only time I switched to Tortoise.

Wow, I never even saw this attack when I fought against him. I did 5-star the last boss on my first try and got the Chronosaviour trophy. I thought I was fairly underleveled when I fought him, but considering what everyone else is going through, apparently not. I want to get the DLC for this game, but the vita hype is consuming me. Too many other games for me to currently jump back into this one. Wah.

Poor Noel. It's disappointing that the best costume this guy is going to get is coming from a game he isn't even in.

And that costume is not even out yet. At this rate I'll have completed the game before that DLC is out. Ditto with Serah. I want either one of the costumes that the AKBGirl (sp) designed.

I just got to
Academia 500AF
and I have been trying to beat this Proto-Behemoth for the last half hour and have died each time. I am just about to stagger him when he stands up and then goes fucking insane on my party.

Noel has 3500 HP and Serah has 3000. Are my guys too weak for this point in the game? I have gotten each role to the point where there aren't any more abilities left to learn and have been putting all my points into COM for Noel and RAV for Serah. Is this what I should be doing?

Even with a maxed out in every role party, that guy nearly one shots people. I'd recommend just running past it.

Depends on your monster set-ups, but that should be ok with a bit of luck. The last bosses are not what I would term easy, but they seemed balanced enough with the rest of the game.

So odd. I've read that a lot of people have major trouble with the Proto-Behemoth, but I took him down no problem during my first time through Academia -500 AF-. I guess I was just overleveled, but I did have a little trouble with the final boss (mainly due to Dying Sun), so I don't know... weird.

I had *much* more trouble with Yomi and especially Raspatil than I ever did with the Proto-Behemoth.

I thought I read that so many of you compained that this game was so increadibly easy. Either I am doing something terrible wrong (if so please help) or that could not be farther from the truth. I keep dying left and right on the area where I am supposed to fight Faeryl (yeah right, kills me in a mather of seconds). I have played every FF from 6 and onwards, but I have died so much in the last hours, and it is starting to get irritable. Ragequit the Faeryl fight and went to an other area, but kept on dying there, but managet to win some.

So do I need better animal strategy (got a crazy powerful Miniflan), or do I just start to grind after 6 hours into the game?

I'd got about 130 fragments before the last boss and did it first time, but nearly dying a couple of times during the fight. A lot harder than I was expecting! The one I died the most on though was the very first Caius fight... I found using MED MED MED right after each powerful attack helpful.

Where is the best place to get level 4 and 5 materials for monster building?

You guys never need to grind if you use a good SEN. The fact that the game gives you a powerful SEN fairly easily in the opening of the game pretty much encourages you to use tanking strategies (X/X/SEN).

You can also get a really good RAV in the form of Albino Lobo that can carry you through the end of the game to use Relentless Assault (RAV/COM/RAV) on the easy parts of the game.

Sounds like you need better monsters, or at least a good Sentinel. Having a good Sentinel is key throughout FF XIII-2. I recommend getting a Pulsework Knight, which you can get from Bresha Ruins -5 AF-. They're Early Peakers, so they're easy to max out, and they're more than good enough Sentinels to carry you throughout the entire story.

Also, grind a little. That never hurts, and grinding in this game is incredibly quick and easy. Even easy fights give you plenty of CP. I had no problems with my first run through that area or the Faeryl fight, but I had also been taking my time and exploring up to that point, so I was probably a little overpowered. Just grind a little and get a Pulsework Knight.

So I should go with a com/com/sen and rav/rav/sen combo in this game?

really? I ran RAV/COM/MED for the whole game. granted, it probably made some fights where you needed SEN/SEN/SEN tough I suppose.

Re: Proto Behemoth

I beat him on my 2nd try using normal, not grinded party (3 roles maxed, other 3 @ LVL 50) and maxed Golden Chocobo COM (no infusion!).

The point is to use paradigm Cerberus-X and have the Feral Link ready. When the battle starts pound on the behemoth, when he tries to stand up (25% life left) use the Chocobo's FL. He goes down during his standing up and roaring animation. Then you move on to the two cats.

Never heal, never change paradigms, never attack anything other than the Proto Behemoth. Don't try to stagger him - try to kill him.

I used this tactic 3 times and killed him 3 times (out of 4 battles), still no crystal drop so I moved on *shrugs*.

Final battle is fucking hard to 5* though. Managed to get only 2 stars on Normal (11 minutes). I guess I need to level up my LVL1 Pulsework Guardian SENtinel, lol, cause he was dying all the time during that battle (Gigaflare).

Problem is you don't see it always! Sometimes when too much shit is going on screen it can be displayed somewhere off side and you will miss it. I know I missed it 2 times: Count 3 --> ok, I have some time left --> bam, Gigaflare and I am dead. Count 2 and Count 1 were displayed off side and I missed them.

Archylte Steppe (rainy) in the marshlands. The mud frogs give level 4 and microchus will drop tons of level 5 stuff.

So I should go with a com/com/sen and rav/rav/sen combo in this game?

Well, both and more. No one paradigm is going to work for the whole game, so you should get used to the idea of setting up all six paradigm slots with different paradigms to incorporate different strategies. I'd recommend having RAV/RAV/SEN to build up stagger meters, COM/COM/SEN to deal the maximum damage to a staggered enemy, and COM/RAV/SEN for when an enemy is too tough/active to build up its stagger meter all at once (for example, if you need to stabilize the stagger meter while healing/buffing too). You're also going to need a paradigm that includes MEDs for quick healing (I like MED/MED/SEN), and SEN/SEN/SEN to tank damage against really strong attacks (you won't need that until the end of the game and the post-game, though). You can safely ignore the SAB and SYN roles for most of the main game, though you might find them helpful toward the end (I like SAB/SAB/SEN and SYN/MED/SEN).

Basically, no one paradigm will work for all boss battles, so experiment and find strategies that work for you. That said, if you're not underleveled, FF XIII-2 is easy enough that COM/RAV/COM or COM/RAV/RAV will get you through the vast majority of regular battles. For boss battles, though, you'll almost always need to use SENs and MEDs unless you're overleveled.

Yeah, that works too! I ran COM/RAV/COM and COM/RAV/RAV for most of the game, and just switched to MED/MED/SEN when I needed to heal. There were a few fights I used COM/RAV/SEN for, though. I didn't need SEN/SEN/SEN until the final battle (the Dying Sun attack), though there are probably a few fights before that where it would have helped. Ultimately, most of FF XIII-2 is easy enough that you can stick with one of several strategies and get by just fine.

I feel like I played the game "wrong" because I never used a SEN monster throughout the entire thing. My most defensive paradigm was MED/SEN/MED, with Noel being the SEN, And even that was only for emergencies.

You didn't play the game wrong. Having a SEN monster can make some fights easier, but it's never necessary. I didn't use a SEN monster until Yomi and Long Gui, well actually I used a SEN for one thing before that, too. (Paradox ending spoiler:
I had to use a SEN monster for Caius vs. Serah
)... I didn't even have one until after I beat the game.

the Serah / Caius duel is so fucking obnoxious. He would be dead in thirty seconds if he didn't launch Serah every second. Ugh. Does the anti-interruption ring even prevent the launch bullshit?

That is the instance in which I had opted to use a monster as well (and it was a SEN to act as bait while everyone else did all the heavy work). lol, I must've played the game wrong, since I didn't use monsters at all outside of that one bit, eh?

But seriously, people shouldn't trip themselves up by wondering if they've played a game right or wrong in any circumstance. The way you decide to play it (outside of having problems here and there) is perfectly fine. That's how you have fun.

I found that
having a SEN with Provoke and Mediguard ended up taking his focus away from Serah so she could do all the dirty work. Ended up being easier than I had initially thought because of that.

I'm usually a sucker for DLC costumes, but the look and the pricing of this batch of costumes is... less than desirable. At this rate the only costume I'll get is the Lightning-inspired AKB48 costume.

This is definitely true.

For me even with the SEN it was hard because it seemed that
as soon as he was staggered he just spammed massive AoE attacks, and he also healed faster than Serah could damage him... I ended up having to cast Wound on him for like 8 minutes to get him down to 20% before going all out. Am I the only one who had to do it that way? Probably didn't help that I went to that battle right after the final boss, and the SEN monster I used was just some random thing I leveled up right before the fight when I realized I probably needed it lol.

A shame that all the DLC comes so late. I already 100%ed the game last week and the DLC gives me no reason to come back. I'm no big fan of costumes DLC, but I would have loved to switch them in my ~60h of playtime (at least I got those pre-order costumes, the Noel one sucked though).

I didn't use a Sen monster myself for any fight in the game except
Caius vs. Serah as well. I think I could of done it without one as well considering I beat him in 1 stagger but I got fed up with him launching her into the air every couple of seconds.
I simply had a Med/Med/Med paradigm set to wide then switched to it whenever needed, which was often. I found it more fun and obviously there is a huge damage gain from doing that as opposed to X/X/Sen, for me Sen was simply for large attacks that were incorporated into most bosses this time around.

Wow. Yomi doesn't play. Imperil makes it much easier, though.

I am in love with the Yomi fight, no lie. It has really shown me how much customization is in the monster system and why I really love it. Over the past few days I've been trying out different things to see how fast I can kill him, so far my fastest time has been about 3 minutes and 25 seconds. The key really is imperil, with it up you can stagger yomi in 1 charge of the ATB then get a decent amount of damage time in, especially if he decides to spam his breath attack a lot. Also went with the fragment weapons since you get so little time to damage I wanted to maximize that time, turned out to be a good idea.

I have a few more ideas to make the fight faster with other monsters but I have to play around with it when I get free time. Same with Long Gui who I've been doing the same thing to, almost got him down to under 2 minute kills. Also had a 34 second Ochu kill, which made me laugh.

No, I had to do it that way too... and I even had my Crystarium maxed out when I did it. Not to mention the fact that I was using a maxed-out Silver Chocobo as my SEN. That fight just really is that much of a bitch. :p

Unless you really want the satisfaction of five-starring it without being overpowered, don't worry about it and just come back after you've gotten all the Fragments. You'll have maxed out Serah and Noel by then and probably have stronger monsters, and it'll be a breeze to five-star. The final battle was challenging for me when I initially got there and it probably would have been impossible to five-star at my then-levels, but when I came back to get the secret ending I breezed through it and five-starred it without even thinking. :p

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Is it really that difficult to obtain? I had the fragment skill on for my crystals and got Omega on my first attempt. Haven't been able to get Lightning or Amador yet.

I got it on my third attempt.
