So one of the new servers will be called 1017, eh?

What class are you playing?

If you like being self sufficient you really do need more than just mining alone. Since making armor also takes leather and other things which might come from goldsmithing for example.

If not you will have to make up a lot of components with the market and that can really add up too.

I'm a pugilist and played from level 1-10 before having to log off.

Can I have multiple side jobs at the same time or must I focus on one for a while then swap to a different one? Sorry I'm not sure of the correct terminology.

Yeah as I play solo I will have to take the self sufficient route.

Go leather is what Id have to say and gold smithing maybe.

If you plan to continue with your pug. Since they wear leather armor for the most part. Also the accessories are a great help if you can make HQ versions of the ones you need.

So with that would most def need mining and to collect leather you will need to go around killing certain monsters to get the later types required to advance.

You can play as any class you like, you just need to swap your equipment in the gear list to change :)

Mining is pretty good, in that it costs basically nothing to do, and if you put a lot of time into it, you can gather lots of HQ items (and stack them) to sell on the marketplace later, when you get a retainer.
To be truly self sufficient you'll need to take up every crafting job, because they all rely on each other to an extent.

Did your computer go to sleep or just drop the connection? I got that when I left my comp and it went to sleep.
EDIT: mine just jumped from 50 min to "Approx. 500 minutes" ...well that escalated quickly.

No I've had this problem since alpha, just drops everytime I try to download and you can't resume the download at all. I could download the update rather quickly if it would work.

Meh, thought so. Still kinda shitty imo.

Well, at this time of the game it's okay if people suck a bit. I myself am sure I'm going to suck no matter the amount of 50 jobs I already have. The game is different and from the little beta I played, it seemed to play different too. Just bear with it, people who usually burn fast and suck tend to not stick for long due to being frustrated without acknowledging the real reason why they're failing.

A bit off topic, started on Limsa (was in Ul'dah on 1.0, and was a Twin Adder), just so I could get my hands on Arcanist asap, though still feels odd!

Heh, I am not saying I am perfect but I am making a real effort to read up, learn and do the best I can to play my class/job. I am probably just getting old :p

On a different note: anyone know if there is a posting limit on the official forums? I can only make like one or two posts and then it says I don't have permission. I can't find anything regarding rules for accounts and such that would limit posting.

Id imagine while unannounced, it was changed in stealth due to them trying to prevent people from making posts about the server problems over and over and over and over. As stupid as it may be.

The official forums have a posting and thread creation limit based on the level of the character you associate with your forum account. I'm not even joking.

Am sure something might be done in the future, as it stands the way the game system works its showing that its real easy to max out a character. And this seems to be going for a lot of players seeing how many 40+s there are running around currently.

Its not even a month yet since the game has officially launched and folks are most def going to run out of things to do, get bored and leave.

Its not even like this game has all that many varied armor sets / weapons to collect too. Which is another disappointing factor of the game. Asides from the constant overuse of monsters, even in the higher level areas. Highly unfortunate that is also.

Wonder what their plans are for an expansion. Since its what the game is going to need to push things further. Along with how far off is it from getting released.

Back to the potential EXP nerfing topic, for everyone Id say get at least one character rushed to the top Lv 50. Just so you can switch to it when you want to farm stuff for your other lower level characters. Its what Im planning on focusing on, instead of constantly working on the jack of all trades stuff with my trade skills, which has wasted a lot of potential time to spend on just a single character class.

Still, I am bothered by people who don't know how to play their main class because they powered to 50 without really doing any group content. That is basically what I was getting at.

Why should you be bothered by how other people play the game? What makes you think people need to play the game a certain way?

Why isn't it "okay" if people "suck" later on in the game? It's a game, people play it to have fun and unwind.

stuff on maxing

Yeah, I enjoy the game for the most part, but it still feels... unfinished. I think people rushing are going to have a hard time finding compelling, interesting things to do once the dust settles. Sure, there are things you CAN do, but will they be enough to keep subscriber numbers up - who knows? I doubt it unless 2.1 starts unleashing some major content.

Would anyone else with a low level character, 10 or so, want to party up and just go exploring? I never like how I end up playing mmo's by myself.

I'm on Shiva (EU) as I couldn't get in Gaf server of choice at the time.

I don't get it. I plan to play over the long run so I'm in no rush to hit 50 spamming FATEs. If I can unlock Paladin by the end of the week I'll be happy.

They can suck all they want, as long as they're not in my party. I don't want my time and energy wasted, that's more than enough reason why it would bother me.

I can't see them nerfing FATEs. There isn't enough quest content in the game to support multiple classes.

Yeah seriously that was one big concern. Since trying to grind out monsters is pretty mind numbing with how horrible the exp from those are. Even if you use a class that has AOE type of damage, its still not that great. Higher lv monsters dont even yield that much of a diff in exp from one closer to your level too.

Dungeons are not exactly great for exp either and can be time consuming if you are constantly stuck without friends and have to random it up.

We're talking about how their play directly effects you, and can potentially cause frustration. So, yeah, if you kept dying because your party members sucked that's going to undo the "fun and unwind" aspect. Frankly, if that's ALL you want there's probably better options than a game dependent on team work anyway, even something like CoD paradoxically you could just play something like deathmatch brainlessly without a care about how well you're really doing.

To be fair though, since the game does force "party interaction" in story parts of the game which are required to progress further in this particular situation of disdain towards others would be warranted.
Now if it was a game where you could solo your way to the top without having to rely on others at all, then yeah your point stands.
So in short do agree / disagree with what you are saying depending on the situation of game design.

On the game design part am pretty sure that they were just at the end of the budget / schedule and needed to get the product out the door now, since its a MMO more content and whatnot can be added into the game later with future updates. And said content and update type of proposals / plans would be drawn up with how much money was made from the titles sales and subscription fees. Well past the initial ones drawn up from pre-order numbers as is that is.

Though one thing for sure is by far Id have to say that this is the best MMO that Japan has produced yet. Actually feels like it was a game made by folks who actually like games for the most part. Being a traditional MMO that is and not to be held to light against the action MMO such as PSO2 for example.

I'm not in a rush, either. I imagine some people just want to reach end-game stuff quickly before their free month trial runs out.

So my timing wasn't that wrong afterall, nice.

What seems to be the case is with the different regions sometimes the update times are different also. The Japan one is still scheduled to finish in about 30m. Scheduled for 1900

I'm not in a rush, either. I imagine some people just want to reach end-game stuff quickly before their free month trial runs out.

Here in Japan anyways, theres folks who treat it as a normal game and just want to see the story. Which is why this game in particular its easier for folks to blow through till the end. Then they can move on to a different title. It was impossible with XI which is why lots of folks made LSes just for that.

Sure, but for some people this game isn't important enough for them to devote the time to read up on everything before attempting multiplayer content. If we're talking about people who are intentionally trying to disrupt party play that's one thing, but you should probably take into account that some people just aren't as invested in the game as you are so their "skill" level is lower.

If you're bothered by the fact that some players aren't as invested in the game because they're prioritizing something else in their lives, then you should probably make the effort to only run with people you know that are more in line with your level of commitment.

To be fair though, since the game does force "party interaction" in story parts of the game which are required to progress further in this particular situation of disdain towards others would be warranted.

Sure, I can get behind this.

If you don't agree with the game designer's view of the game, then you should probably play something else or wait for the creator's to change the game to fit your tastes. The fact that you are required to party does increase the potential that you'll match up with other players that you won't mesh well with. Fortunately, players who care that much can, and should, forgo FFXIV's matchmaking feature and seek guildies or RL friends to adventure with.

The more "hardcore" gamers that are talking about how "sucky" players "bother" them, should keep in mind that there are all sorts of people that play this game, not all of those people are as into it as they are.
