Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn |OT2| Use a security token. Seriously.

Still too lazy to re-register my CE token. I'm playing the PS3 version with a unique password that I use nowhere else. I did all the account management through my tablet so I'm not worried about any key loggers running on my PC. I know there's always a slim chance but I feel pretty safe for now.

I started leveling my first crafting job the day before yesterday (Lv 12 CRP) and I have a question about recipes. Are all the recipes I can craft in the Crafting Log or are there more hidden recipes in the game? There's no way to craft with manually selected ingeredients so I'm inclined to believe that there are no additional recipes.

My main job is a DRG so I'm hoping that I can craft some nice weapons for myself at some point down the line. Hopefully the recipes are all CRP based.

It's painful, I spent the last 2 weeks farming garuda via duty finder. I would say the same thing at the start of each fight 'does anyone need tips or are we good to go?' and this would encourage the newbies to identify themselves and ask about specific parts of the battle. You get the occasional dragoon wearing lvl45 white gear (with lvl 30 accessories) and you are doomed to fail, but every other time a little patience and providing help and support to other players you can win with just about any party.

I did 10 successful duty finder runs of garuda today, only wiped 4 times in total. Each group took a while to find it's sweet spot and then with my consistent tanking and some good healers we'd pull through.

:D and the best part is on the last attempt I finally saw my first pld weapon drop and I was the only PLD, that was my #1 fear. To see the PLD weapon drop and lose it to a higher roll. I swear 80% of all drops were the smn/acn Garuda's Will book... it was so frustrating seeing that appear again and again, I even have one despite not having leveled acn past 1. But on the plus side the Myth and Philosophy tomes add up saving me from a couple runs of AK.

Guess Im having extremely bad luck. I did around 30 DF attemps and only succeded in two...

And yeah, its always books. Same in Ifrit.

There's no need for CM at all when Prae exists imo. CM is tedious and dull whereas Prae is a bunch of bosses. Also less worrying about poor players aggroing all the time. Problem is runs with most people in AF last like 35-50 minutes from my experience and that's just not really acceptable for multiple runs.

That said, I've noticed a bunch of (obviously bought) relic users that love to eat red circles on the floor and die a whole bunch. You can pay 250k for Titan but you can't buy skill :)

I have a relic friend who joined a full super-elitist relic party for Prae. It was his first Prae relic run and he told me it was his worst experience in that dungeon.
Not only the people were arguing with eachother measuring their epeens, they also sucked at avoiding attacks and even they started bosses without everyone inside the arena, resulting once in having a tank outside of the fight.

One more thing I don't like.
Do your choices in the beginning even matter (Day of birth, gender, race, etc)
The bonusses are just so minute that you'll have no problem playing a Lalafell marauder.

It feels like there;s no tactic or skill involved with this class.
He just does damage and you pray that your tank can aggro enemies.

If it's just a tank and spank mob it can be pretty repetitive. Move to the side, Heavy Thrust followed by True Thrust, Vorpal Thust and then Full Thrust. Add a little Phlebotomize, a Leg Sweep every now and then and you're good.
I'm sure it will get more complex towards 50 but I think it's already pretty great.

With cross class skills from MRD and PUG I sometimes feel overwhelmed by the amount of options I have, especially when soloing.
I was able to solo a big same level FATE mob until around 50% health (then other people showed up) because I was constantly rotating Life Surge, Second Wind, Bloodbath, Keen Flurry and Foresight.
It felt pretty great pulling something like that off with the right tools at hand. :)

lol @ this guy's outfit. Pretty sure he's just doing his best Voldo (Soul Calibur) impression.

You'll probably feel that way about most DPS classes since they follow a rotation then. I'd guess for something a bit more dynamic healing or tanking would be it.

Just cleared the story via a DF Praetorium that turned out to be a speed run, was kinda fun even if rushed. War tank was whining about too slow dps and low-quality gear, but one of the others in the party who were new to the dungeon chewed them out for their attitude, lol.
Lahabrea was kind of a pushover.

Guess I've got this to look forward to:

Welcome to end game

Now enjoy your 8 weekly AK runs, Enough CM's to make you realize there's a reason people ask to skip CS when it's your 40th time through (I mean you need to run CM 50+ times just to get one class to full DL, and the another 9 just to get the Relic item) maybe 1-2 WP in a month for shits n' giggles and the eventual "WE DON'T HAVE A BLM OR SMN, FUCK THIS I'M OUT!" Ifrit HM, hopefully your weapon drops sooner rather than later.... then comes Garuda HM, Godspeed... then Titan HM, you will get an ulcer guaranteed
... sounds "fun"...

I've noticed something really weird every time I log in. Every time I hop on the game, I notice that my HP and MP are shaved down a bit, if only a little, usually no more than 5 points less than yesterday.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what in the hell is going on?

hmmm so i did get around to FATE grind at north thanalan last night for an hour and got a level. So whats actually going on in the first stage of dark devices besides everyone spamming their aoes for 10 mins?

Also is there a way to turn down effects? That blindingly bright aoe move thing is not doing my eyes any good (._. )

I just wish fate grinding didn't have such long downtimes. I do have netflix or something open while doing it but yeah... I'm clearly too low level to do the leves there, and the mobs decimate my dude there.

You are running with the wrong farm parties then, it's basically the easiest of the end game fights so far. It's all just gimmicks and positioning.

Eh...it's "easy" in the sense that if you actually get to practice the whole fight, you can pick up on it reasonably quickly. i spent 7+ hours spread out over the last week before I finally got it down with a GAF group, but a lot of people come into the DF undergeared so if they get past heart phase they won't survive stomps/busters. A lot of DF groups never get past heart phase to see that or practice due to the DF forcing a second tank who doesn't get to do much all fight and puts extra strain on the DPS who might not be that good to begin with. A lot of people legitimately lag during "prime time" which means death for sure, and some will 'rage-quit" after they see they aren't going to get carried. And then of course some people really are bad and you wonder how they got that far.

So, while in a vacuum the fight is not technically that difficult, it's the hardest fight in the game outside of the coil and a gear, latency and patience check all at once, which most DF groups will not be able to handle. So "oh it's so ez" is a bit disingenuous.

One more thing I don't like.

They only matter slightly, but the flipside is that you are allowed to be what you want in terms of race/class combos without it being "wrong". Why deny that Lalafell Marauder or anyone else?

Genders have some different dialogue and gender specific gear but they are almost always 100% aesthetic differences. Same with DoB and Deity choices, they slightly affect elemental resistances and will likely mean a few story related differences down the line but are more for fleshing out your character's personal story than anything else. And that is a good thing to me.

Anyone else having bad lag and latency issues the past day or so? Im trying to figure out if its on my end or if it is server related.

I logged last night around 9:30PM EST to do some crafting and the lag was atrocious. People were skipping around on my screen and the delay between my crafting action taking place and the resulting progress/durability hit was 1-2 seconds.

Yeah last night was awful. I was doing FATEs in Quarrymill and many people were shouting about stuttering and rubber banding. I assumed it was because the Odin FATE had happened in the zone shortly before, but it sounds like it might actually be part of a bigger problem.

I gotta give a big shout out to the people who farmed Garuda HM with me all night. Many of you stayed with me for about 4 hours until I got the bow I wanted to drop. Thanks for the hours of amusement rotating through different people opening the chest to see if what came out was different if someone else opened it!

Our PLD got his sword, one of our BRDs got an axe for his WAR, our BLM got his staff, and one of our WHM got a cane he needed. Oh, and I got my bow. Phew.

We didn't see any books all night, thank god. RNG is a fickle mistress but sometimes she smiles upon you.

Ah, grats, I'm jealous. On Garuda, I see a lot of Books ._.

Ok. I was having all kinda of issues last night. Even while mining.

Lag was bad last night especially when we were killing Chimera.

Thats part of the reason why I was asking. I was frustrated :(

Check Character Configuration, first screen hit the rightmost tab (forgot the label), it allows you to turn off effects for yourself, your party, and other players.

Ideally in N. Thanalan if you're running with a party and you're bored, get your party to park at the entrance of the mines where Dark Devices starts instead of the camp. Despite wearing through your armor quicker, if you chain mobs there you'll be earning exp while waiting for fates. Have caster tag mobs so you get credit for mob death, and damage the ones your party didn't tag for enough damage to get credit.

I'm gonna make a bold statement here and say that if you don't enjoy the endgame grind through DF, don't do it and find a nice FC instead to do things with.

I've played enough LFR in WoW to know how toxic environment grouping with randoms in some sort of endgame treadmill can become. Everyone is undergeared, noob, and not running the instance fast enough because you just want to finish the damn thing for this week and don't have time to dick around. Then there's the chat, which is almost as bad. Don't deceive yourself and think the community in this game is any better, especially when the DF is cross server and your anonymity is almost guaranteed.

Now, compare this to a full FC run where you know most people, can take your time, chat in ventrilo/mumble/whatever have you, and most important of all the focus of the run is spending time with fun people instead of just rushing it through to get your tomes, it becomes a wildy different game.

The point is, everything is more fun with friends, so why not make some? :p

hmmm wonder if that nets overall more exp than just running around doing all the FATEs. Will try that.

Damn it, why is pld mob move at lvl 50 >.<

I have done Castrum in 20-25 minutes very easily with a competent group, that is hard to happen with Prae
Huh? 22-25 min Prae runs for my groups that I make but I don't invite AF DDs. It's also undeniably less tedious than CM so I personally see no reason to ever run CM again.

Sounds like our garuda farm runs, too! Except the no books part. We get tons of SMN books and WHM wands that no one really needs :|

900 tomes wasted

lol... well, since you main DRG I guess. Just like I'm not bothering with DRG relic for now since I have my MNK's +1'd already and don't want to gear another mDPS (gearing BLM and PLD on top of MNK is enough headache already but at least I have all three relics and BLM is "done" for now and PLD just needs some better armor before it's Coil-ready). I really feel like the Sphairai +1 have been a great investment for my MNK over armor options. I'm already threat-capped in turn 2 (I'm guessing most +1 relic DPS are) with around 200+ average DPS on ADS (I get like 250 on the mini-boss trash fights on the way there since I don't have to back out and pass rot on those fights, same for the Artemis+1 BRDs in the group).

Stupid question time:
If my Madman's Whispering Rod is already half spirit bound, can another player still meld materia into it?

Is there any way to run the software security token on a PC? Only I need to send my phone away for repair next week, but I still want to be able to log in to FF14.

I'm down to four Ak runs a week. I think my sanity will be kept in tact.

Yeah, they should also put dungeon achievements in the game too like other MMORPGs - there's really no challenge or variety in the way you grind, nothing to attempt.

For example, each dungeon achievement could be worth 5 Myth Tomes or something:
  • Kill Squidflayer with both of his adds alive
  • Defeat DemonWall before flies spawn
  • Kill all 3 Succubi within 5 minutes upon entering the third floor
etc.

I went with monk since it shares the same accessories as a dragoon so I don't have to worry about that, just armor. Then since I'm the only one in our coil party with a Monk alt all that sweet loot will be mine! But yeah, probably my last relic for now, other classes will have to make due with the titan weapon.

I don't even want to know my DPS on ADS though since he has that piercing damage reduction buff.

Just wanted to say thanks to those who helped me clear easy Garuda on Sarg last night. I know they don't get anything out of the battle, so it was cool of them to help me out with it.

The lag was pretty bad, though. At one point I just had to guess that I needed to hide behind a pillar. Fortunately I guessed right and no one took too much damage in the meantime.

The achievements for this game are killing me lol. Trying to knock as many of these out before my subscriptions runs out. Only 90 more guildhests to go ....

Why are you trying to knock out achievements on a closed system for a game that you're not going to be playing anymore?

I don't know but the BRDs still do pretty well, I wanna say like 160+, but I don't really remember, plus they're watching for blunt arrows. This is from BRDs that do over 200 on the orbs on the way to ADS. He's also got that magic resistance... first time in t2 I went on BLM at pt's request and was riding threat-cap on trash then got to ADS and was like "why is my damage so low...?" then I noticed his buffs...lol... pointed it out to them and we're like "oh, lol." Went in on MNK the next time and did a lot more damage.

Working on WHM relic and that'll be it for me for now, one of each role (tank, healer, mDPS, rDPS) and not bard because even though I like bard there are a billion of them. I have every Garuda weapon except SCH so I don't even feel like farming Titan any more than I have to for relic quest clears for myself or friends (even though it's so easy as DPS and I'm geared to farm it).

Why are you trying to knock out achievements on a closed system for a game that you're not going to be playing anymore?

Because I want them done and like collecting trophies.I mean I know I won't clear the binding coil anytime soon and I'm not even gonna bother with the 100 raids but still. I am not essentially quitting just taking a break till they fix things I don't feel this game is worth the subscription at this point. The lag is really bad, I get hit with 9000 very often (may just be me) and as of right now the community in general (not gaffers) sucks. Hopefully alot of them thin out and when endgame is little more than running the same 2 dungeons over and over its just not fun anymore. I am legacy though so my classes and stuff were at 50 so maybe that hindered my experience but yeah gonna sit on it for abit.

:D Was this the run where the 2 of us who had done it forgot the attack and Roe tanked/killed it alone for the last 4% or so?

I posted this awhile ago but no one responded...

Im going to reset my attributes for my Paladin using 10k seals.

What should I devote my points to? I know Vitality.. But anything else?
