Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae 2.0 |OT| This is a fantasy based on feedback.

So how do you fight that big thing? One complaint I have is the frame rate on ps4. The game is pushing the system to the limit, how on earth will they manage to add AA

Optimization, polishing, smoothing out frame rate and other visual bells and whistles are the very last things that are done before games ship.

Demos are supposed to be representative of the final product, but this is a special case. Things will get better.

So I'm just walking through the verdant meadows and Gladio puts his arm around my shoulder teasingly and says something which isn't subtitled for whatever reason, Noctis pushes him away and playfully tries to hit him, then I see a "Link-Synced" notification at the top of my party list. It's a filled yellow circle with a bolt through it, and it's pulsing. What exactly does this mean? It happened once before.

It had VA for me, but what essentially happened is Glad gave you advice before a fight presumably in regards to nearby enemies. This gave you the sync status, which makes cross link attacks much more likely.

Ah, gotcha. Figured it had something to do with cross links, didn't realise they were chance-based.

It's unoptimized. The PS4 can easily do 1080p/30fps or 1080p/60fps etc, it's all down to the choices of the developers. They've still got a year or so before it'll be released so it's plenty of time and if we think of the, ahem, downgrade for FFXIII (which imo still looked like a gorgeous title for the time) then I don't think SE are afraid of dialing things down a bit. I don't know if it'll end up being a locked 30 though. It'd probably have those problems like Bloodborne did or something that mars it slightly.

If Duscae 2.0 was a higher res (has anyone done pixel counting?) and had even a small amount of AA (although imo 1.0 to 2.0 is an improvement) then it'd still be a stunning console game. That said considering the problems with frame rate seem to come largely in the open field of random hitches during combat it seems more like un-optimized code + build rather than anything else.

Stealth Edit: Regarding VA...I think I'd love the quality of XII's dub/VA direction but we probably won't get that. If it's dual language then I'll probably play with the japanese audio. I think SE somehow, bizarrely even, seem to think that getting the team who did XII means the dialogue would have to have XII's characteristics and it wouldn't...it's just the tone/quality of the VA in Duscae is very hit and miss. I think Kagari said they sound like caricatures and they do. Well, Ignis and Prompto stand out the most for me in this regard. I felt like Noctis was more of a Batman Begins voice if anything and Gladio was tough but seemed to have personality there.

You listen to someone like Balthier and just as you think that the glove fits in regard to his voice + appearance he has a scene that subverts your expectations and it doesn't feel like that in XV. It's not befitting of a high budget AAA title, let alone a mainline Final Fantasy game.

how many cross-link can you do? I did 9 and executed lvl.3 finisher.

The link QTE timing gets really brutal.
my best was 12 hit, which resulted in a Level IV finisher at over 5000 Damage each finisher hit.

I enjoy the new battlesystem so far, looking forward to the final system.

Why no cross link when fighting
the huge Dinosaur
(Cathelopeas???)
or behemoth?

As multiple people have speculated in the past few pages, the two boss fights probably might as well have had "UNDER CONSTRUCTION" hung around their necks. I'm inclined to agree, they don't seem like finished content as much as a proof of concept right now.

Like "see those big things in the lake? Yeah you can pull and fight those. But we're not exactly finished yet so please be excited in the meantime".

I kinda feel like the the Catoblepas are supposed to have Quake, they act a lot like the Adamantoise of XIII. We don't actually have the tools to fight it properly either I think air combat and Co op moves are supposed to play a big part, one thing I did notice however was at every 25% it would fall.

I think team attacks on the Catoblepas could be possible if one of the AI's knock it over but that would be extremely hard. I would have a lot more fun if they patched in air combos but...

Double/Triple jump is a must through level advancement in the full game. Along with chainable aerial combos.

That is making the game a lot more KH, but that's what it needs to make the player control feel much more satisfying and exciting.

It's lacking that massively at the moment.

Well Versus was whole sale KH2 combat in a Final Fantasy game, and now they are trying some weird middle ground that nobody hates, but nobody loves

Curious what the control inputs are for this. They should definitely have some aerial combos outside of Armiger as well.

Played a bit more; a few thoughts/complaints:
- I hope the final game lets us toggle the Batman/Assassin'sCreed/whatever-style slowdown when we hit an enemy. That or remove it entirely.
- Lock-on is better but still a little wonky. I can't tell the difference between an R3 Lock-On and a held-R1 Lock-On. I'm glad that it tracks enemies now, but it puts us in a weird camera angle that's too close to the ground, which becomes very problematic in areas with shrubbery.
- I guess I understand what they're trying to do with the "Buddy Tours" but it feels sort of unnecessary. Having the characters pair off with Noctis as a one on one thing feels opposed to the group dynamic they're shooting for.

I'm reserving judgment. I see potential in the systems they have in place right now, but I'm keeping in mind that this is early-game stuff and entire aspects of combat are missing/unfinished. TBH, giving us a combination of passive and equippable (a la KH 1/2) perks as we level up, along with the different active and passives associated with each weapon, would really liven things up.

I'm growing weary of this whole "camp" system. How are things going to work when you're not out in an open field and you're in Accordo, for instance?

I don't like how leveling up and whatnot is reserved for when you set up camp

There's a food buff that makes you immune. You need to kill the buffalo things I think and then rest.

Yeah I think it's a combination of the Garula Steak and Altshrooms (sp?) something like that. You can buy both ingredients from the shops if you need to.

You stay in hotel rooms!

I've only played for about 30 minutes so far, went out with some dude to learn link attacks and thats it. I kept hearing how good this game looks, but so far it looks pretty blocky and bad. Does it look a lot better when I leave this desert\forest area?

The demo takes place entirely in that area. The terrain is really varied in some places though, roaming is a must.

All we've seen outside of the forest is in trailers only unfortunately.

But the cities look great in the trailers.

I saw 4 tour quests (1 prompto, 1 Ignis, 2 Gladio) is there more?

Damn, mate. I only got Gladio who taught me band attacks and then Prompto with whom I was gathering mushrooms. Since then I must have camped about 10 times and I haven't even gotten the Ignis one yet. Any idea how to make them trigger ? I even went out and killed the behemoth without summon (took me 19 minutes), explored the whole cave again and got about 5 levels and still no Ignis tour :(((((

Is there really second Gladio tour ?

I think they are mostly random. The second Gladio tour requires you to beat Behemoth (story mode) but you already seemed to have done that. For Ignis I heard you have to beat the game but not sure.

All right, I will just go back to Cindy and do the cutscene again. Then I will try to camp and see what happens.

I did the Ignis quest before completing the demo (unless it keeps track of me doing it on an older save), I assumed it depended on which camp you camp at. I was at the one furthest to the top right, which began his stargazing quest. Doing that unlocks a subsequent quest which I think might be glitched, I definitely recall doing it but it's still on the map.

Lol i just noticed i thing i never did since D1: doesn't the menu screen change with the real time of the day? Then why mine is always at night?

the one closest to the gas station ?

It always start at night, and it's not according to real time of the day. You have to wait until it turns to morning. It's same time as the actual game's day/night cycle.

Gladio-senpai noticed you ~uguu~

Thought I could ask here:
what is likelihood of SE releasing this demo to everyone during E3 (or after)? Are they still making money out of the FF-0 exclusivity?

A few weeks ago they said they'd like to release a small, free demo for all later this year or so, with only a small battle ground (in the city area from the TGS tech demo) to get a taste of the battle system.
Episode Duscae will most likely stay exclusiv as to not “betray“ those who bought Type-0 for it, I guess. Who knows, though. They might even update it a few more times to gradually get it closer to the final game over the next year and use it for expos/conventions for playable booths.

Is there a retailer in your country that accepts returns and fully refunds no questions asked? That's what I did with EB Games.

For me, Gladio called out a campground while the team was wandering around (Hey Noctis, look at this! (Press triangle)). In the morning the tour began. Maybe try going by each campground to see if that pops?

All right, finally got Ignis' mission. The only beef I have with it is that the subtitles were REALLY fast, I couldn't read the whole thing (although I am pretty sure what the last few words were) and the fact that I couldn't even see the falling stars since when the "talking" ended it immediately stopped :(

Well, I hope this part will be dubbed in the final game and that I will be able to actually enjoy the meteorite storm.

On the other hand when I got back to camp and saw Gladiolus playfully choking Prompto it made up for the otherwise meh mission.

P.S. great picture at the end. I wish I could see these pictures in some kind of album :/
