Final Fantasy XV first 45 minute gameplay video (final build of the game)

Graphically it definitely looks better, which is nice, but the combat still looks so simplistic and floaty. The end fight of the Platinum Demo just killed any of my excitement for the gameplay, and it looking and running better doesn't fix that.

Yeah I think the combat still looks iffy, but I have no fear it'll be enjoyable "enough" (for me) even if it does leave something to be desired.

Isn't there supposed to be something like the gambit system from FFXII? I haven't heard it talked about much I don't think, but I don't follow all of the info to a tee either.

I really hope so, maybe around the Pro's launch period, but keep in mind that Square Enix has zero interest in sending the message that the XB1 and PS4 versions are inferior even if they are because that's where they're going to make their money, just like no publisher is going to push the PC version of their multiplatform games separately to highlight the differences, actually they want to sell the PC version as if it was the console one, but that's an other issue :D

Don't think that's the case in Microsoft's case. Maybe Sony but Microsoft is already jumping the gun on that lol.

Here's a couple from the opening scene. Stupid how much better it looks.

They got rid of that weird vaseline look. Much better.
I love it when gaffers before we're thinking it's he hardware holding the game back. The devs wanted a different e look, the fan reception was negative - so they made it look different again and better in most people's eyes. Along with improving the jaggies and such.

From what I've personally played, Duscae was more pleasing to my eye than the March demo. Even though one was a year older, there's much that can change when devs have a vision where it looks (or looked) better for them but ultimately changed it back.

Well according to SE the game was done they were going to just strictly focus on polish. If that's true and you have a Team the size of the FFXV one (several hundred people) just focusing on building nothing new and just optimizing the experience you can get a lot done

Game development doesn't work on a linear path.
Y'all are talking like this is a common graphical jump in the last 4/5 months of development so I'd love some similar examples where this has happened

I lost hope in combat since Duscae demo.

It's definitely not simplistic. It does have quite a bit of animation priority, and that makes it a bit too unresponsive for many people, and I can definitely understand that, but it has a lot of depth, that's undeniable.

There's a lot more strategy involved in those older games than just running to an enemy and holding a button to attack. I didn't like the combat in either of the two demos I played but I'm willing to change my mind if they've made upgrades and there's more to it than presented in those demos.

Also, the car gets really bad gas mileage.

In random combat's case. Yes. FFXII and FFXIII made random encounter more meaningful (while people complain those games play themselves) but before that you really just choose "attack". I have no doubt I will be pressing more buttons in a encounter in FFXV than in old FF games.

The Crunch is real, damn. Tabata and his team must've worked themselves to the bone and then some. Props on him. Despite his questionable design choices, he's at least putting games out. Nomura could learn a thing or two

They have done a bang up job and making the visuals much better in a short amount of time. It's telling when you can see the difference in shitty quality YouTube videos. Can't wait for the gamersyde uploads so I can feast on the visuals.

Oh, and the animations are some top tier quality stuff.

For what it's worth, imho, the voice acting is still shit tier and off putting, but fingers crossed the eventual pc version has the Japanese voices so I can lose myself is what looks to be a great game and the first time in years I have played a FF.

The console version has Japanese voices.

We will see the Pro version of basically every game that releases once they are ready to be shown. 90% of all multiplat games show primarily PC footage over console footage because it's the best looking.

The only reason we haven't seen an extensive FFXV Pro trailer is because the Pro version just isn't ready

Exactly, they show the PC footage as representative of ALL the platforms but the point is that they don't tell you.
Here it's different, a publisher has to release a trailer for a specific console that is only going to highlight how the other versions look poor in comparisons doing the marketing work for a platform holder when they are used to do the opposite (they try to pretend there are no differences and whatever you choose is good).
Of course I think in general we'll get Pro trailers of upcoming games but I expect the matter to be handled with care by publishers.
The fact that the Pro version isn't ready is possible but if they showed a minute in a private theatre at TGS and it looked stunning it's obvious that they could show more. Also the Gamescom footage wasn't ready as well and looking poor and yet they showed 52 minutes of it.
I think the reason we're not seeing much of the Pro is just that the focus right now is on selling the normal versions and showcase how much they're improving them given all the concerns.

Yup, effective use of warp alone opens up a pretty rich tactical vein, and there's a ton of other stuff going on with cooperative and party member attacks, multiple types of magic, aerial combat, weapon switching, etc.

If anything, I think there will end up being complaints that there's too much to manage in higher level play.

gameplay and graphics seem to be shaping up nicely. my only worries left are stability and story.

the voice acting i'll just have to deal with.

... what?

That system is used internally to manage the AI, but we don't have access to the modify those parameters.

What I've appreciated for better or worse is that Tabata was as honest as he could be with how this game looks/runs.

I appreciate him for that.

The battle music at the desert area right at the start sounds slightly different.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I definitely have a much more favorable opinion on the voice acting after this video, tbh. I still think the party banter is amazingly written.

The english localization took many liberties, and in some cases it's really for the worse, but I wonder if they added more banter than in the original dub, that would be a pretty nice incentive for playing with english voices.

I found interesting how, at least at first, the game guides you torwards always resting at night, while giving you hints that there's good stuff going on outside. Gets me excited for the difficulty of some of the night-exclusive encounters. The game definitely seems to be made so that people who only want to experience the story won't come against them, so they don't have to hold back at all.

I thought you were referring to Veiled in Black (the one used in Duscae night rearranged for the Nifl base trailer). I'm talking about the one at the start which is the arrangement of the Platinum Demo battle theme.

edit: checked your links, you apparently got your latin names mixed up lolol

It looks way, way better now. The framerate seems to be quite steady too.

I'm still super-glad that JP voice work is an option in this game. I just can't into Cindy's Texas accent.

OMG NO

Forgot when the theme was used :P, so I mixed up the name.

How do we know if this is the final build? They can keep working on it more until the gold copy, right?

The game is heading off for certification. There's still the possibility of day one or week 1 patches but this video is what we'll be getting on the disc.

Awesome, thanks for this.

Now I'm just hoping for a consistently good story and I might actually get damn hyped.

No prob! All these videos are really starting to get me going again too.

What? It's still two months out. They already have a "final" build? I wonder if it will get a big day one patch.

Have you seen Tabby's face lately? He seems to sleep faint in any moment..

This looks much better in every way. Water during the day is pitiful though lol.

Jury's still out on the main narrative, but the interaction between the guys is great. Gladio is a lowkey savage.

The lack of positional audio is seriously bugging me. It handicaps the immersion.

Dunno why that slipped by them.

It's standard for voice over to come through the center channel, especially during cut-scenes. It's how movies do it.

You definitely hear the bros panning around in combat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCBbFwdpC6o#t=12m23s

And yes, center channel in film for VA is pretty much an industry standard.

Kinda fuckin weird there was this much of an improvement in the last couple of months of developmwnt

It really isn't. I don't get why so many people responded to the delay with sentiments like this.

Polish and performance improvements are always happening at the end of the dev cycle. It's really just that we got an unusually frank look at pre-final versions of this game.

Well, I guess KH3 and FF7r still have a chance of being good so I won't completely write S-E off just yet but yeah. That still looks pretty bad.

Lmao it's like we've been watching two completely different games this entire year that they've been releasing footage. This game is like a low rent DmC.

What we saw before was final. It just didn't include the day one patch. If the game still released in September disc only players would've known the game as the mess we saw before.
