Final Fantasy XV first 45 minute gameplay video (final build of the game)

Looks like he fucked Prompto and Ignis up.

This is the best bomb yet. Holy shit it's so good.

Slightly OT, but given that there are definitely fans here, seems like as good a place as any to ask.

If you're going to play FFXV, should you watch Kingsglaive before? Is that giving you relevant backstory that you'd want to know going into the game?

Alternatively, does it potentially spoil larger plot conflicts or give you a false impression of what to expect from the actual game?

Can anyone make a GIF of the Bomb fight an upload it to Giphy or some other host that is not imgur (That one's blocked at work....).

Yes, watch Kingsglaive before playing the game. There are some plot elements that are introduced in the movie.

Regarding your other questions, no, I don't think it spoils anything relevant from the main game, but it introduces concepts and plot elements.

Kingsglaive from what these guys tell me can basically act as a cgi beginning cutscene of the game.

It certainly gives you backstory getting to see the invasion happen. I'll be watching it directly before I switch discs and play xv

Kingsglaive is basically a long prologue cutscene. It leads directly into the game and provides a bit extra context for some things.

I haven't been following the plot speculation too closely, but there's one thing that constitutes a spoiler in the sense that it gives the game some dramatic irony.

I do. The lead characters, from what we have seen are not inspiring, very generic creations with terrible clothing(Armor?) designs.

I don't understand the necessity why some kids are going out to the wilderness to murder animals. Could be I missed that part of the plot along the way. Final Fantasy games have always been about some over arching issue going on, and we know there is one here, but initially we the player are separated from it and just off on a jolly time with our brahs, circle jerking and driving around.

Now I am sure the gang will be thrown into the larger issue at hand, but at the moment, I couldn't care what that is or how they get there, much like FF13, where I just gave up after 20+ hours of not caring who these characters were and what they were fighting for.

In most Final Fantasy's, we're roped into something bigger then ourselves very quickly. Or we're characters that are struggling to cope with the issues at hand early on, just trying to get by.

As well, the game lacks a sense of maturity. This is where I believe I would have enjoyed a FF15 that had Kingsglaive characters instead. Look how awesome they look!

I'm just so done with sappy, emotional tweeners running around in JRPGs. Like I said, I'm old, can't deal with this any longer.

Good luck to those that will play and enjoy the game. I am on the other side of the fence and would love to have someone at SQUARE-ENIX to actually give us something different/better then what I see here, personally.

Real question, is this more appealing to you?

Prince-Noctis.jpg

As a protagonist, I mean.

Because the lack of maturity and all are very much by design, this being a coming of age story. The game starts right away, the moment you hit New Game, by showing you the character in this picture. This is how the protagonist looks torwards the end of the journey. It's a story about a pampered prince having the world fall on his shoulders overnight, and having to grow into the position he's now in.

I find it very appealing, and not juvenile at all, even if the characters themselves can act that way from time to time, exactly because of the kind of story it's telling.

I only have one question I want answered before the game comes out. Anyone know if the vocal version of Somnus made it into the final game?

Awesome. Thanks! Might have to look into good ways to watch it then.

This is sort of what has me worried about watching it actually. I was worried that it would tell me the bigger story in a way that the game itself would eventual reveal, which would ultimately sap something from the game. Maybe they thought about that though and it won't be the case?

Yoo the part after this with the two popping iron Giants and the bombs. Night is fucking dangerous indeed.

I literally can't wait for this game lol.

Nice seeing some update footage from that cave from gamescom. I'd love to see THAT comparison video, lol. It's like two different games.

the characters of Kingsglaive look cool, but oh boy, are they mere shells, you wont get "maturity" out of them, not a good point to make tbh. just say you dont like the character designs. fairly respectable opinion.

imo SE needs better writters first of all.

Just want to thank everyone for their comments back. It was good reading the well written replies.

I haven't watched Kingsglaive, so it sounds unfortunate that the characters weren't constructed/written well enough there. I'll still give it a view one day soon.

Gbraga, sorry I cannot see the image you placed in your comment. I am at work am at the best of times, 50% of the images aren't allowed thru the security it seems, so I cannot comment on it.

Again, I hope in the end people that are excited for the game get a great experience. Goodluck!

Is this game's gameplay nothing but "drive to place, kill x monsters, repeat"? Like any later areas that break from that formula in any way?

The combat system is less complex than even a Dynasty Warriors game and I can't imagine it remaining entertaining for the 60+ hours that a Final Fantasy title lasts. You just pick a weapon, mash circle, and hit square when the screen throws up a distracting prompt to "PLS BLOCK NOW" that seemingly never stops happening. Maybe this press A to awesome stuff is what they're going for and my wanting more interaction from the player is out of the norm, but all of these extended gameplay videos are killing my excitement when I want to like this.

Eurogamer's footage represents FFXV's charms really well
better than official marketing

I loved what I saw.

Yes, it is.

Just like the old Final Fantasy games are "walk to place, kill X monsters, repeat".

I look forward to seeing your playthrough of this game where you just press "A for Awesome" and finish the game easily and effortlessly.

Re combat, there is a LOT more going on than mash circle and block on command.

Briefly:

Warp (warp-strike-attack, free warp positional shift/dodge, high-point for recovery)
Attack
Defend (hold square to phase through regular attacks, but also a dodge for stronger attacks, perfect-dodge damage negation, etc.)
Counter (on a prompt, as you noted)
Weapon shift (4 available for comboed switching at any time)
Special weapon abilities (most weapons have special abilities, a la dragoon jump for a spear, that are triggered w/ a directional/attack combo, also the Royal/phantom weapons all have special abilities, many related to enhanced aerial combos or special warp strikes)
Magic -- assigned like a weapon, get to craft your own spells w/ a range of tactical modifications (e.g., a fire spell that also heals you)
Ring Magic -- don't know much about this yet, but it's a separate set of high-level spells like death
Combo attacks (happen automatically in proximity w/ partners in certain situations, can also be triggered specifically in certain contexts)
Partner attacks (special abilities that you select for your partners, like Gladio's tempest)
Summons (we don't know that much about how these actually work yet).
Aerial attacks (these can be enhanced via the upgrade system)
Huge range of weapon types, from swords to chainsaws to sniper rifles

For all the potentially valid complaints about this game, "combat is just one or two buttons" is NOT one of them.

The improvement is amazing. Only thing I would wish for is the image not to be as soft as it is. I get it that it is their AA solution but, still it softens the image a lot.

You clearly have no idea about this game's gameplay.

And I remember some people who claimed that two months are not nearly enough to polish those visuals while at the same time removing bugs and glitches.

This footage is delicious. Game looks fantastic.

Game development doesn't work on a linear path.

Exactly. Man as much as I hate this expression I really hope there ends up being some crow eating in gaming press and some of the haters on here.
