Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

Could be. I can't tell if it's just a 2D backdrop here at e3 2013 with all the blur but it looks like they had a good chunk of it modeled already though.

At best you'll be able to explore a couple of roads and such.
And they'll close you off in clever ways.

It takes R* Games 5+ years to model 1 city several times smaller than that, so i doubt SE has some magic formula to go around that type of heavy labor.

Probably also why they're having troubles implementing airships.

It will be a dream created by the constant mourning of thousand-year dead souls?

No but it will probably have a big CG cutscene at the beginning with just a wee bit of exploration, and then it will be unexplorable until near the end of the game when it will be in complete ruins.

You should read the rest of what you quoted.

You should watch the videos I gave you that show them using same assets, locations from PS3 code.

It's called transitional period.

Your previous comment sounded like they built everything from scratch with Luminous, which is not the case. They were able to use some of the code, models, and assets, then when Luminous was fully built transition those PS3 assets over and revamp them with new DX11 api.

To say they didn't reuse character models and the battle system is absurd. They did while the fully built and added the new engine, then transitioned work flow fully to luminous.

You don't scrap years of work from one engine to remake animations for characters. You export them setup the new engine to accommodate them, then add to them. Some engines allow you to import raw polygon files that are not even out of box modeling into a completly different engine environment. Then let the engine do some of the vertex/vertices mapping and tessellation to give you more detail in your character models that was not feasible in previous engine because of hardware limitations.

My answer still stand they re-used a lot from their work when it was Xiii versus. A lot of the prototyping was kept, and even enemies. You don't thrown away years of animations, rigging, and designs when the characters/story for the most part are not changing.

This looks awesome. But there's no way they can populate all that right?

Seems like an impossible amount of work to be done if they're serious about releasing in 2016.

What I'm concerned with is beyond that. Ok we have a city, but what do you do in it? That thing looks the size of at least Los Santos from GTAV. I just can't imagine it ever being utilized to its full potential, even if they do fully build it out in game.

If the pimp my ride feature is still in and we can drive on the highways, tokyo street racer mini-game. But yeah, they better have a bunch of guys creating side quest.

Updated the world map. Game is still going to be huge even if they end up cutting out half the map...

Western or not, almost everyone thinks Sasuke is cool. so...

Only kids, dude. Only kids. Like the ones who always dress up in those Naruto headbands and play fight outside of anime stores, or reinact their own little fanfic skits on YouTube, not unlike those who do the same for Organization XIII or Hetalia.

He's cool looking if you like shounen manga and are teenager or young adult. I think Noctis looks very much like a typical JRPG protagonist, but with black everything and is quite quiet, so that kinda makes a little... emo to certain people.

I don't even know what Sasuke looks like.
Like serious, I never touched Naruto.
You're making up problems now.

The character models are completely different. They have far more polygons, far more bones. Importing the animations is pointless if you have a completely different rig on the new models. The idea that they would use tessellation to fill in the blanks is also unlikely. The consoles ports of games typically avoid tessellation as the geometry engines on GCN aren't all that great (and needed for other things).

Designs were kept, larger level geometry might have been kept, raw mocap was kept and some ideas were kept but they mostly started from scratch.

Well, FF is directed at teenagers and young adults, at least according to Kitase and Kawazu.

Japanese teens and young adults, which is probably one of the problems. Not saying they shouldn't consider Japanese taste in the way art direction is concerned, but it shouldn't be the defining taste. As others have said, something more international in flavor could do in broadening appeal. Something of balance that's not full J-pop appealing, yet not western dudebro, dark'n'gritty/grounded either. A middle ground. And I say all this knowing, full well, that Square is capable of making characters that can appeal to both. You see a lot of them as non-leads or NPCs important to the plot. They got the skill to do it, especially with Roberto as the new "got to" artist.

Play Final Fantasy 14.

Play Final Fantasy 14.

I didn't mean setting-wise, though in all fairness, in FFXIV, you could makeyour character look however you want them to look. I doubt Square would have the the nuts to incorporate that in their offline games from here on out. Would be interesting, though.

Yusuke Naora and Akihiko Yoshida should do more character design work while Nomura can take a backseat. I felt the former two draws character that looks much less jpop but still retain the Japanese feel.

Toss Roberto into the mix and we got a winner. Yeah, maybe Nomura needs a break from FF to focus on KH and directing. Get other guys to handle the character designs in the FF series.

Yeah, Noctis really isn't that appealing to the western audiences. And to make it worse, he looks like Uchiha Sasuke =/

I don't see how that makes anything worse considering Sasuke is one of the most iconic anime designs/characters in the west.

Unless you're just talking about your personal opinion.

Roberto designed Cidney tho :V
Other than changing the length of her clothing(and zippering her up), I don't have much of a problem with her, as far as physical looks are concerned. Hell, I stated upon first view of her that I loved the fact she had non-straight hair. Hell, if there's anything I like in FFXV, it's that there seems to be characters with different styles of hair, even wavy. It's kinda boring to have all straight, or majority straight(or short and spiky). GImme some curls, dammit! Gimme some luscious locks! Gimme hair that doesn't look like something an Asian popstar would have(or COULD have) and give me something...well... like I have(I let my hair grow out and it gets curly like a Greek statue).

THOUGH, speakin about Cidney, knowing they've changed Regis, I wonder if they actually took the criticism to heart and plan on changing Cidney by alteration? I mean, given what they are doing, they COULD very well do that(at least have it in their power to do so).

That genuinely makes me sad, damn.
I'm literally speechless lol, to be shown so much and know that it will probably never happen.

It was all done on 'Ebony' engine iirc. Which was a prototype engine only.

As to why did SE go that far with it...I don't know.

It certainly looked spectacular though.

I think Cidney's outfit is silly. But her face is beautiful and fairly unique for a jrpg.

Silly outfits are common on FF though.

I mean on FF12 we had Vaan, supah sexy Fran, and the worst offender of all: Elza

Yes, that's a fucking thong on top of the shorts.

Ha ha, no denying it! Except was Fran's outfit silly? I found her so beguiling I genuinely just took it as sensible street wear for a 6' 6" warrior bunny woman.

Edit: I should note that I don't find Cidney's outfit any sillier than many other things in XV. I was just saying that I really liked her base character design, clothes aside.

I love Fran man and I guess you could argue that's the dress code for Vieras, and either they don't see it as sexy or they are completely ok with that level of exposure.

But try showing her outfit to anyone unfamiliar with the series and he/she will probably think it's some kind of lingerie.

Yeah, somewhere around there. The Duscae we've seen is so small in comparison I dunno why people even tried to find where it's located though, lol.

Maybe the NE most lake is the one with the Catoblepas? Does seem to be in a valley. But probably shouldn't rely on all the minor features of the model matching up with the final game....

Wow, hadn't looked at this in a while. Where did folks think Duscae was again? West of Lucis?

The city in the center (or the ones west from Lucis) could be Tenebrae's capital where Noctis is heading, so somewhere between those would be my guess.

Nova Crystallis ‏@Nova_Crystallis 1m1 minute ago
Tabata: We are already at a point where we can very much guarantee 30 fps with constant and stable rate in the same way as in Duscae 2.0.

Did he even play his game?

Seems plausible. I was zoomed in for a while looking for the impact rings around Titan, but obviously not modeled at that level.

Wait a sec...are people saying warping is out? When did this happen? Tabata said awhile ago that they had to take out warping all over the map since that broke stuff, but didn't he say they left warping waypoints in where you can warp to specific locations?

I just think it's a little weird seeing Cidney, a mechanic, almost looking like a hooters waitress. Is it really too much to ask to give her some pant..................

the warping points are only during battle. He said warping will not be outside of battle, even in the final game.

You can warp in Duscae 2.0 on top of rocks and stuff, so I assume there are certain points you can use in the full game too.

Maybe its just me but I like Regis' redesign. I also like the wardrobe change; a King should stand out.

This game just seems so huge and it would seem they have so much material to show off. That's why I was disappointed when they only showed Regis holding Noctis for 30 seconds and the group dying to a Marbolo.

At least Tabata seemed to get it and apologized for the lack of information. Though he had to be pretty clueless if he didn't know that shitstorm was coming or maybe he just doesn't realize how big a mainline FF is.

I've been saying this for a while. They want to get the double dip crowd.

Guess they got me. I'll have to upgrade my gpu lol.

I tried to look for smaller lakes since it's fairly small in Duscae and isn't anywhere near a chunk of Lucis, but then it's also hard to judge because we don't know if the lakes are to scale or not on that map.
