Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

Cloaked_Man_VersusXIII.jpg

I wonder if this concept is still in the game. I kinda expected him to be the main villain of Versus/XV

I'm pretty sure the guy Noctis is facing off against is supposed to be the "AssCreed" looking hooded guy seen in past trailers. Whether he still has magic sigil powers, we have yet to see.

Whether Mr. AssCreed is still in the game is another question altogether.

No one has asked about him...

I know he is this guy.

What I don't know is if he is still in the game, have same roll, look same.

So like are those cool mafia suit wearing dudes still in the game? Regis's redesign makes me feel like they changed all that stuff.

Tabata pls

When Tabata took over internally, perhaps the best thing to do would be to throw away all the remnants of Versus XIII and start fresh, rather than trying to continue the work of another creator but wanting to make something new instead. Use all the assets from Versus XIII, and make new world, new setting and premise, new characters, new everything. Yeah, it would be unfortunate for many who looked forward to Versus XIII, but sometimes, certain things just weren't meant to be.

XV should have been something entirely different. Not the resurrected corpse of Nomura's dream game.

This game isn't Versus XIII anymore, and anyone who was that invested in Versus XIII knows that already. Taking the remnants of that game and folding them into XV really isn't going to attract enough people at this point to make it worth the development difficulties brought on by ebony and luminous, and the end result is probably going to be a project that won't be much more than wasted time for both Nomura and Tabata, since neither of them will see their vision for this game realized.

King Regis redesign did it for me, this is no longer a "fantasy based on reality", that king is full blown fantasy. I loved the yakuza look of king Regis and the others before the redesign, and his relationship with Noctis looked a lot more interesting than what we were shown in the Dawn trailer.

This isn't the game Nomura wanted to make, it's something else entirely.

Yup, me too. I decided to give this trailer the last chance to convince me if it's a game that I actually care about after playing the demo(hated the combat there) and the news abut Stella removal, but I saw the trailer and that horrible new look of Rigis(easily my second most anticipated character in this game story wise) and it did it for me as well.

I'm sure at this point even the hooded man is probably removed/changed completely too.

now that I think about it there is almost nothing that once cared about is still there, and if someone asked me why are you hyped about it? I don't think I can answer the question at all.

I hope this game end up good for the ppl that still excited for it.

...I just... A character's physical redesign makes you go "NOPE I DUN CARE NO MORE"? Okaaaaaaaay. Well, your loss. It's a shallow reason to suddenly switch opinions over, but whatever. Ridiculous reactions and FFXV go hand-in-hand at this point.

For real. I'm forcing myself into a black out, not to avoid spoilers, but to avoid what seems to be the most pessimistic demographic in the gaming community.

Would've loved to get a new FF instead now that I think about it. As someone who was incredibly hyped for Versus, its so sad seeing its corpse being shown off. Don't get me wrong I still want XV, but man its gotten way to tiring, can't stay hyped for one thing forever.

Maybe in 2026 Nomura will get to direct Final Fantasy XV Remake.

You joke, but I wanna see Nomura get another shot at making a big-budget FF (that's not a remake ofc). Maybe not mainline, but another spin-off.

Holy hell coming into this thread late, what a ride.

This ATR has effectively killed my interested in this game for the most part. Rarely IF EVER, when something sits in development hell/delayed long enough AND switches hands at some point, does it ever turn out to be a great or even good product.

The way they handled this, and this game as a whole so far, has been a joke. Everything should have been scraped and FFXV should have been a new project entirely, and maybe Nomura could have revisited this years from now, instead of it sitting stagnant and then being given to someone else to finish.

I was genuinely excited, if skeptical, about this game and after the wasted generation on the XIII debacle, I was so excited for a new mainline FF game; (I don't play MMO's, great as XIV looks.)

This has been a real shame.

It's really sad and it's weird how bummed out this whole thing has made me, but I've lost a lot of hype the same way you have. I agree that XV should have been a new project (esp. now that the staff is changing so much anyways, so appealing to people invested in Versus seems pointless).

Maybe Nomura will end up doing Versus XV some day...

That thought has crossed my mind.

I think in that case XV would look largely the same but without the obligations that come with having to maintain some of Versus' identity on the surface. Noctis would be replaced with a different protagonist, etc.

I'm just..... not that excited for this game anymore. Can't believe I'm saying that about a main line FF O___O.

Like, every bit of news is just so deflating, then I also remember one of the biggest things this game has going against it for me: Not one single playable female character. Plus the Stella debacle, the original version of her looked so badass.

On a positive note, this game is going to make everyone appreciate Lightning in retrospect <3

XV went from being the saviour of FF after the XIII debacle... and now people are suggesting that XV will help us to appreciate XIII?

How did we get here ;_;

Not sure. Besides the gameplay changes, I don't see how any of the other changes is enough for someone to start disliking the game.

I'm more excited for the Steam release of Lightning Returns than for FF XV

Maybe I'm insane, but I don't think the situation is as shitty as it looks (and believe me it looks shitty).

Up until E3 we were actually getting a decent trickle of information and an actual playable demo was released. They skipped E3 and promised a media blowout for Gamescom, but it really was just kicking the can down the road. Gamescom clearly took them by surprise and they just put together whatever to get through the conference. So while they botched the presentation, it doesn't mean that development has slowed down or is going backwards.

But I do understand how it could come off as the project spinning its wheels, with the lack of stage presence at E3, anemic showing at Gamescom, the "biggest" news being doing a character's design over again. Maybe I'm being naively optimistic but I think it was just a really bad coincidence of all of this information providing a snapshot of the game's development as "circling the drain" when in reality it's going along just fine.

I imagine that Episode Duscae v2 is the cutting edge of their development, and they really didn't have anything meaningful to show after that. But there was a gauntlet of 3 big trade shows in the months to follow and they couldn't skip them all....

Even with all the shit that's gone down with FFXV, I don't like FFXIII or anything of the FFXIII-trilogy better because of it. Just... no!

You say that, but the Final Fantasy cycle would disagree with you...

And we already had people asking for another game like XIII lol

I don't remember seeing all of that, but if they're talking about in terms of the world/character design/atb or something then I don't see that as a weird thing.

That's my take on it. They misunderstood the moment and what people were actually were looking forward to. Their approach was to start slow and introduce new fans of the game, and then open up in later shows. Them calling this trailer a teaser basically confirms that they purposely held back. It all backfired.

Hopefully this is the wake-up call that they needed. I put all of the blame on Akio Ofuji and the marketing team for this game. Tabata being on full damage control mode today just shouldn't have happened.

You know that it's not just this gamescom people are worried about right

Sure, but people are using it to further fuel their theories and speculation; yes the development is dragging for obvious reasons, but the last few pages are ridiculous

TGS was always supposed to be the big show, wait for that until you let those tear flow

You guys need to chill.

One bad Gamescom showing and everybody loses their head, smh

Square just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about German culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by skipping E3. If you screw someone over at Gamescom, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the German public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase FFXV for either system, nor will they purchase any of Square's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Square has alienated an entire market with this move.

Square, publicly apologize and release Episode Duscae 3.0 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

nooooo

redesigning Regis made me lose all hope of the yakuza feel.

damn itttttttt.

edit- is Shimomura working on anything else? That would suck if she is stuck in this bottomless pit of development

There's no Final Fantasy cycle.

I hope.

Oh but there is.

I remember everyone hating on Final Fantasy 8 when it first released (I loved it) and for the first few years after. Now it's looked back on as an underrated classic and one of the best games in the series.

Agreed. After this show, they still have 9998HP left because one bad Gamescom only does 1HP of damage because Square Enix has built tremendous goodwill and trust from its fans over the course of the last 9 years from 2006 when Final Fantasy versus XIII was announced to the trailer of 2013 where it seemed incredibly promising that Nomura would finally be able to unveil his vision to when we were told at E3 2015 that there would be a media blow-out at Gamescom to Gamescom itself when fans were disappointed by mediocre showings of gameplay, lore, questionable changes, and non-committal answers from the director at a critical time when they can't afford bad reception.

Umbasa.
