Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

Is that because you've seen it and it still looks amazing? Or because we'll actually get a quicker release as a result now, and at minimum cost to overall graphical fidelity? Or something else?

It's probably being made on UE4, which is the best thing anyone could hope for.

Damn, looks awesome. Kind of disappointed FFVII Remake won't be made using this engine.

Japanese devs seem to be able to make UE sing whenever they use it. Look what a small team at ASW managed to do with Xrd while using UE3, and then you have SFV, DQXI, and Kingdom Hearts 3 all looking fantastic while using UE4.

I don't think anyone will deny that what can be done with Luminous is pretty damn amazing. But the engine isn't in a place where other games can use it right now. Especially considering that FF7 is likely being outsourced. So that other studio (likely CC2) would have to wrap their heads around what seems to be an extremely complicated engine. It's just a bad and unnecessary mix when UE4 seems to be very easy to use.

Can someone explain the doubt over UE4? Each game I have seen using it looks amazing and different than the other.

I managed to play Tekken 7 and it looks fantastic.

What's your distinction between the two? I don't think they tried to make him "more white" or anything like that, but there does seem to be a change to make him more "European fantasy king"-ly.

Old Regis, "Modern Day":

i don't want the game anymore

This has become the most fascinating thing in gaming for me.
Do i want to play this game?

Hell yes, but i cant tell you why anymore.
Im not particularly excited or disappointed.
Im...nothing towards this game.
This game is simply an awe inspiring spectacle now and im no longer sure what id prefer.
The game misses 2016 and we get it 2017, OR they rush it as a matter of pride in 2016 to avoid being a joke and the game is just crap.
Beautiful crap but still crap.

Well it's good to know everyone, irregardless of origin, thinks changes like Regis are really stupid.

It feels like Tabata's just changing shit for the sake of it to make it 'his game'

A lot of people were attached to Regis' original design. That's it.

"Don't change Regis" doesn't inherently have anything to do with this narrative about Tabata making unnecessary changes purely for reasons of ego, hatred toward Nomura, or whatever else.

Never.

Just like when Nomura changed Stella twice because it was "his game".

This is Tabata's game now. So what's the point?

Criticism of the design is independent of this Tabata vs. Nomura mess that's started.

Yeah, god forbid someone wants to change something in his game. I don't even understand why people are getting bent out of shape about it.

Found this particularly interesting:

“It’s at about 65% to 70%,” responds Tabata. “We’d like to release the Western version as close as possible during the same period, and there’s a lot more work than usual sandwiched between now and the release date. We’re working on debugs and also localizaton at the same time, so for that reason we’re taking a little longer. With that in mind, I say 65 to 75%, but if we’re talking development for the game itself, it’s actually a little further than that.

Also, team new Regis. He looks better now in my opinion.

We can all speculate and claim that FF7 will becoming out quicker but I honestly don't think so. They can probably build the world quickly but i'm sure Nomura will complicate things till they are perfect.

I'm hoping Itou is on FF16, not Toriyama.

Give Toriyama Chrono Break or Valkyrie Profile 3 or something, assuming he didn't use up their design docs already making FFXIII sequels.

Number one phrase I never thought I'd say: they are the nicest undulating tentacles I've ever seen. The suction-tentacles on the head individually have some really well done follow-through animation. I don't know if they were programmed or animated manually, but either way, impressive!

I look forward to dying horribly to it. Sorry it advance, Noctis.

Well they can use real world locations for inspiration for the in game, so they have a lot to work with in terms of making it all look good, and adding in the fantasy elements.

They can bring back basically all the old school FF enemies, and it's still shown that even the same species come in different colors and sizes for variety, places to farm for crafting mats if there is even such a system.

Mini-games, fishing, chocobos, maybe platforming sections where Noctis can warp from point to point and get a high view, more stuff I probably can't think of.

Hidden Chests, Hidden Dungeons, Armiger weapons, Accessories, Regular weapons with their own abilities EX: Blood Sword with Drain Blade ability.

All in all the overall size of it will indeed simulate a real road trip with some buddies.

So I don't doubt this will be a good thing.

I think they also mentioned a card game in the past? Which would bring a whole new lot of things to collect through the world.
And Monster Hunts seems to be in the game as well.

Yeah they have the potential to fill this game to the brink with awesome content.

Hell they probably don't even need traditional quests, mostly because i fear they'll only be the usuals collectathons grinding bore-fests japanese rpgs have.

As Wan Hazmer once said, we only got to see a small fraction of Nomura's vision, and i think most of that is still in the game.

It looks so good but at the same time is scary as fuck. I hate status-based enemies.

The gif made me sad. I still can't get over how poorly promoted FFXV is in this Gamescom. I had high hopes for the game coming into Gamescom. By skipping E3 and confirming that Gamescom will be THE event for FFXV, I was really hoping for many insights to the game's system and mechanics, and better look at important characters like Luna, since she was barely featured in previous trailers. Was even half expecting release window at the very least. We got the year now, but even that was a little wishy-washy.

Just disappointment, as someone who genuinely looked forward to the game. But unlike others here, I'm not jumping off the bandwagon yet. Weird, huh.

Seeing as I hated XIII (and certainly never asked for two more of them), I'm gonna go with no.

After what he did to Parasite Eve, this would be even worse than having him lead another FF (I say this with the Chrono franchise being the only one between those two to which I have any particular attachment). Couldn't imagine wishing him on any other franchises, either.

The only game I'm okay with Toriyama making is a cheap mobile game so that he replace Ito's place, and Ito could come back and work on console RPG again.
