Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

I've still got that Ultros hype!

Now I hope for nothing more than a great trailer and more in depth look at the game's systems and mechanics in PAX to make up for the disappointing Gamescom. Heck maybe this time ask Nomura's advices on how to make a good, hype-inducing trailer.

You realize PAX is only a few weeks away right?

You hope for little more than a miracle :P

I do. Guess I'm just hoping that they are truly aware of how screwed up they were in this event and try to "compensate" for the recent shitstorm.
SE Japan took one year to make the 4 minute Agni's Philosophy tech demo.

They are not going to have anything substantial to show in a few weeks if this is the best they cooked up for Gamescom.

Just show a 1:30 trailer with noctis using magic and everyone will be happy. The aerial combat is lacking hard judging by the demo.

If the next "gameplay" focused o n some aerial stuff or magic that'd be awesome! Then just keep up a little information trail. I know not everything alwasy goes to plan but it'd be cool if at PAX they could say "Please look forward to TGS where we'll be demonstrating the magic system a little bit" etc.

That would be a good start, the game at the moment seems so grounded that's my only concern. I think Tabata should consider giving Noctis a floaty jump.

It takes time to prepare material.

Everything takes time. I don't need a 10 minute trailer. Another ~3 minute trailer is fine, but the content makes a lot of difference. Something like E3 2013 trailer is great. A good mix of story that provides some calm and bonding moments, and gameplay with some flashy set pieces to excite the viewers, all accompanied with dialogue to provide context.

In-depth look at game system doesn't necessarily have to come from trailer, though of course that would be much better. For instance, I really want to know if the monster scaling mechanic is still in, and how does it work roughly. And how Magic works as a concept.

Tabata mentioned in the Dengeki interview that if they prepared new material to show at a faster pace, then it would slow down the development progress itself (which is their main focus now to meet the release deadline), and that's why they decided to make Gamescom like a smaller "development diary" type of thing.

His new clothes are so much better IMO.

#TeamNewRegis

Add me those dozens. He actually looks regal and his getup is a sort of perfect mix of this "fantasy based on reality" crap they keep peddling.

Then again I've never cared for the high fashion ridiculousness of the Nomura cast. If anything Tabata should've changed the main characters way more. At this rate Tabata should just make this game his own, because right now it's in danger of being a conflictive frankesteinian monster.

You know all this summons talk is exciting and its hyping me quite a bit.

Thanks to @FinalXV for this recording!

That' just crazy
fun
from them.

"There's a scene where Leviathan comes out and it's one of the peaks of Final Fantasy XV." (Tabata)

He's talking about the destruction of Accordo right?
Man if they keep that setpiece close to the one shown in 2013 i will lose my shit, it'll be one of the best moments in gaming.

lol i imagine Tabata's reaction "GO AWAY YOU DON'T BELONG HERE!"

This picture from Episode Duscae ending is not just a concept art piece, but it's an ingame artwork that was painted hundreds of years ago by a famous painter.

It's portraying the book of genesis (or similiar) in the FF XV mythology/religion. It displays some summons and they are an extremely important part of the world in FF XV.

I hope the lore is deep like it seems.
Nojima should have prepared solid foundations.

Luna and Noctis as Leviathan and Bahamut please

Yes please.

The worst was how he and Siren were both shown prominently in all the trailers too.

Yeah that hurt a lot back in the days.

Bring back the jumping we saw in the 2011 video imo.

Also this.
Jumping as of now feel pointless.
But i guess it's hard to figure out how to make him jump higher without losing realism.

Fair enough, but then they shouldn't have skipped E3 and then promise a blowout for FFXV in Gamescom instead.

Didn't they just promise Gamescom was their next landmark in the PR stuff, rather than something super huge though? When i try to google ffxv gamescom now its all the recent stuff :P

Guys look at the bright side: we are almost certain that they'll announce the release date before or at TGS and we also know for certain that this is a 2016 game, in the past we didn't even know if anyone was working on it or not lol, you remember all those dark "random" media blackout years?

IIRC, it was something like the launch of their marketing blitz or something equally absurd.

People assumed (perhaps not wrongly) that this meant we'd be getting a lot more information, or a real trailer, or both.

Instead, we got a very short (but good, IMO) trailer, and a brief preview of some malboro combat in a swamp.

Oddly, I suspect that had they just shown those two things and not done the stupid Q&A and reading off the damn website for story info, people wouldn't have been so upset.

I don't disagree that it was underwhelming, but to be exact he said following about Gamescom in ATR 6.0:

"We will be officially kicking off our promotional campaign for the release of the full game."
"We can save some reveals and hopefully show off some completely new, never-before-seen footage at Gamescom."

I don't myself consider it promising a blowout exactly, but still we all expected something a bit more.

Why do people think Fantasy based on reality applies to what Noctis can do?

He jumps pretty high with the Dragoon Jump ability and he can do this ~

Realism out the window.

I still hope for floaty jumping and I just think because they haven't worked on air combat and are saving it for last and therefore haven't changed the gravity.

You know, recent FFs have gotten us used to logos with huge and really elaborate artwork, but I wouldn't have minded if this sword was the logo (shrunk and moved behind "FINAL FANTASY XV", maybe rotated slightly).

Maybe FFXV is in store for a logo change. Get Amano on the sene!

"The summon Leviathan is a being close to god and is highly intelligent. Director Tabata ordered me to design her as an elegant/refined female." (Matsuzawa)

"There's a scene where Leviathan comes out and it's one of the peaks of Final Fantasy XV." (Tabata)

Summons have a human form?

I guess this couple is portraying Leviathan and Bahamut.

qSiFV9v.jpg

Some people guessed that it was Siren on the left.

Hahahaha, I was right. That serpent on the bottom being speared is NOT Leviathan. She's not a lowly beast. The summons in FFXV are godlike beings that deserve respect. Only fitting she'd join the other summons in the heavens. Where's your Occam's Razor, now?!

Is Winged Guy on the right Hades then or possibly Diabolos?
Bahamut.

No, I mean the guy with the spear near Leviathan.

I dunno, it's been suggested on NeoGAF that the backlash from the short trailer meant Squeenix should scramble and throw something bigger together within the time frame of Gamescom.

Isn't it safe to assume that they actually do have a lot of in game footage recorded that they just chose not to show?

Another thought is that this might not be all the game's summons. Ifrit and Odin are conspicuous by their absence. I know not every 'OG' summon is in every FF, but I would've thought there'd be room for Ifrit somewhere.

The figures that the summons are driving away at the bottom of the painting seem to possibly be other summons. You can see a figure that looks like Ifrit as well as one that might have Odin's horned helm.

Solid point. It's always possible for this game to slip, but we have now heard Tabata commit to this game actually, finally coming out next year. Additionally, in a few weeks we will know when the release date announcement is. I certainly was disappointed with Gamescom, but this is way better than years past.

My hope is that whatever the release date announcement is (TGS, Jump Festa, whatever) brings a seriously kickass trailer. At that point, reassured that the game is on track and with a specific date to look forward to, I will go on a full blackout.

That's not Leviathan. You mean the serpent.

Those angelic, hooded figures are probably some sort of heavenly soldiers. It looks like there is some sort of apocalyptic battle/slaughter seen in the bottom where a lot of demonic looking creatures are being killed. Wonder how this will play into the story. Unlike what others said, this doesn't look to be a simple, "Let's go travel to get our crystal back" quest. There WILL be more to it than that, which is nothing new for the FF series. Rarely do first objectives become the main objective of the game.

Ugh, Siren, Ifrit and Carbuncle all had such wonderful designs in FFXIII. Too bad they were relegated to a single cinematic cutscene. :/

I REALLY had high hopes for summoner battles in FFXIII. To tell you the truth, I've wanted a game where there were "evil/rival summoners" to battle so you could have a battle of summon beasts. I've wanted this before FFX. I think I romanticized the notion, around FFVIII's pre-release tidbit drops, how it would be cool to battle other characters who summon their own GF's against you in battle. You kinda get that with the final battle, but I wanted more.

Knowing that FFX was going to be about summoners playing a major role, you DO fight other summoners who summon their own Aeons against you, but the fact that the number of unique Aeons were small meant you all were fighting the same ones YOU had, which was.... meh.

Now, when they explained in FFXIII that l'Cie had the powers to call forth Eidolons, and that supposedly each Eidolon was unique for each l'Cie, I had hopes they might go further with this and have you encounter different Cocoon l'Cies who all have their own unique Eidolons the summon against you. Seeing the Pompa Sancta festival in magazines made me hopeful of that(that there were other Eidolons out there in FFXIII's world, and other l'Cie to summon them). One of the many let downs of the game(not the greatest, mind you, but a sliver of the beast).

Dammit, Square, I still want this. Battle between summoners(with unique summons) as well as, maybe, the "Summon fuses with hero and becomes a job class" thing that FFIX's early art work looked to do(the whole Bahamut and Leviathan Dragoon things). I don't know, summon fusing to heroes sounds cool, and I don't mean like GFs, but actual fusion(maybe more akin to the character fusing in Breath of Fire II).

Yeah i'll keep following all the media until we get a proper release date day.
After that i will go on blackout, maybe only following written infos but no more trailers.

Do you really think the people who made Duscae's combat are capable of delivering a good air combat system? The Versus dream is dead. Their current goal is just to make a passable combat system.
