Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

That too is annoying actually. I'm going to miss seeing my party level up several times or so after beating a boss instantly. Now I have to go camp/hotel.

I've always liked camping systems in games. Good chance to stop and catch your breath. Looking forward to fancy hotels, too! I actually wish they'd open up camping so Noctis can walk around the campsite and catch up with his bros before turning in.

I have no issues with there being a camping system. I do, however, have issues with camping being the only method of saving and leveling-up. I'm sure there'll be other ways to save in the final product, but unfortunately I'm pretty sure level-ups will remain exclusive to camping.

Ah, right. I have mixed feelings on that. There's a potential for a nice risk reward system if you can only level at a camp, but I definitely don't want a modern game that heavily restricts where and when I can save.

So.. are we going to camp right before the final boss door? or will there be a save spot lol.

Please no. KH is a floaty mess. I'd take Duscae 2.0 over KH any day.

I find controlling Noctis intuitive, and w/ special attacks, all the armiger abilities, and combos there's plenty of flexibility, even in the limited scenarios in The demo.

With a smoother camera, more weapons and special abilities to slot in different ways, magic, and, hopefully, some kind of party AI control, I think it will be golden.

Also, lots of Duscae press coverage was very positive, as were the surveys. Understandably, lots of folks who came up following vXIII are into KH, and want a system more in that vein, but plenty of people who love FF in all its different incarnations aren't and don't.
Damn it i think i agree with you, though i wholeheartedly sympathize with M_Night.

I guess it would be redundant to play kh3 and FFxV if they were so similar.

Tabata cannot ignore everyone calling for a gambit system for the party... I'll definitely give you that.

Also, anyone else bugged by the camping system?

Why saving (at least in the demo) and leveling-up is relegated to camping is beyond me.
I love the camp system. I only wish that they make it like tent kits from old final fantasy games where you can camp on open fields. I don't like the fixed camp areas at all.

Camp, of course! One last bowl of Ignis' Garula stew before the big showdown. Seriously though, I suspect there will be another mechanism for saving.

Hey, every system will have its proponents and detractors. But yeah, I'd rather some weird new system than a KH clone.

If camping is the only way to save, it is impossible to do low level runs, right?

They should implement something like EXP Zero from Kingdom Hearts, that blocks completely you from recieving exp

Why do they have to make Ignis so obviously the Judas of the group. Ever since the Versus days they've always played him up as a turn coat, not to mention he carries a dagger.

Why can't it be Prompto? I wouldn't expect that idiot.

Et tu Iggy...

Nah i don't think on of them is gonna betray us.
I mean, they're focusing so much on the fact that they're the only 4 characters we'll play as, it would be strange to cut one out at the end.

I guess they'll have another system for when in dungeons.

No they actually said if you want to do one, you can simply skip camping for the whole game.

Tabata said in the Famitsu Q&A that there will be both autosave and a traditional saving, but no mention where / when you can do it. In the demo there was only autosave in camps and a checkpoint before the cave.

Really stupid IMO. Camping should be a place for healing of HP/MP, party interactions, and cooking. That's good enough. No need to tie level-ups and saving to this.
I don't mind the idea of saving there but yeah not sure why it has to be such a limited experience with so little to do.

Tabata confessed to us [3D Juegos] that "Sakaguchi called me after playing Episode Duscae to give me his feedback of what he played. He told me that he found it great and that he found it to be very enjoyable and interesting. We discussed some things about the battles and the different ways of playing that are expected from a franchise like this one. It seems today that there are a lot of gamers who want to play a more traditional role-playing game, while others prefer something more active. I talked with Sakaguchi about finding a way we could make both groups happy."

The Japanese artist confirmed in a talk with 3DJuegos that "we don't have a lot of contact with Tetsuya Nomura, because we work on different departments [groups] and we don't inform him of the current stage of Final Fantasy XV."

Glad he's changed his mind though. He refused to play FFXII past the intro because of Matsuno's departure.

Not surprising that Sakaguchi is still in contact with people from S-E, he and Kitase are big friends and he was probably a mentor to a lot of them. Some fans like to pretend Sakaguchi hates everyone who's still at S-E because inventing drama is their second job.

lol so Nomura can't even know how his work is progressing.

Maybe he's just not interested. I don't think he's calling every week "Hey how's the game coming along" and Tabata is "Go away Nomura, shoo!". They just don't have reason to keep Nomura actively updated since it's not his project anymore.

Would Nomura even care at this point? He's not involved in it anymore as it's someone else's game. Plus he has two games of his own to work on.

Is the game he has worked during 8 years, at least I don't see why he wouldn't even want to check time from time how it's going, in an informal way, not really part of the dev team.

Unless it's hurts too much to see. lol

lol so Nomura can't even know how his work is progressing.

You made it sound like he was banned from making any contact with the XV team. It just means that the XV team do not go out of their way to contact Noruma considering you know - he have 2 little things call KHIII and FFVIIR to direct.

I thought Tabata and Nomura talked things out before his departure tho?

We can reasonably assume that they did but we can never be sure what they were discussing unless one of them decided to come out and tell us. Noruma can easily just go: 'Here are what I am planning to do with XV, I'm trusting you to do whatever you feel is right for the game. No need to keep me updated.'

Whatever occured, I'll say that Noruma definitely seem more focus on his two current projects than XV.

I'm sure the man directing two of a company's largest games would love to be updated on every little thing about a game he's not actually working on.

I thought Tabata and Nomura talked things out before his departure tho?

They did, and now he has left the project. The FFXV team doesn't need to go out of their way to keep someone not on the project up to date.

That said, if Nomura felt like he needed to give them feedback, he would. Just like Sakaguchi did.

Some of the groundwork is still there, but it's not really the game he was working on. Some characters have changed or been removed, sequences are gone, and the battle system has changed. There's nothing he can do about it now and i'm sure he had to know that it was going to change a decent amount once he was no longer the director. In fact, it should change. Realistically you can't really expect someone else to want come in and just do whatever the original director was going. Naughty Dog isn't doing that with Uncharted 4 either. They've recast people, changed the game design etc. But it makes sense as it's not the original directors game anymore even if some bits are in place here and there.

I thought Tabata and Nomura talked things out before his departure tho?

He's talking about now. Tabata took over around more than two years ago.

Is it just me who actually thinks XV is still probably going to be a bigger game than KH3 and FF7R might be?

Not sure of 7R if they actually going to do a full remake but XV should be bigger than KH3 at least only if Noruma keep the worlds as their own little sections than connecting them together as a giant area.

I still don't get why Tabata said this in initial interviews. He was revealed to be co-directing FFXV when it was revealed in 2013, but I don't think he became the actual director until 2014.

What's portrayed to the public and what's actually going on inside the company are most likely and very often two different situations.

I think they just wanted to break the news about Nomura being off the project gradually.

Yeah, because it really made no sense for Versus/XV to need a co-director. So I think Nomura was likely already off the project at that point. They just didn't want to say it outright because reannouncing it as XV and then saying "Oh yeah, Nomura isn't directing the game either" would've caused a big stir.
