Final Fantasy XV Hands-On Demo (Chapter 0-3) Previews

If Chapter 0 really is only what we've seen in that preview video and there's nothing more to it, then it's a pretty dumb and spoiler-y way to start your game. The time skip would have been such a nice mid-game surprise.

the car conversations are what I'm looking forward to. Just setting a destination, taking in the views at different times and listening to the guys go at it in conversations.

I wish they sounded like actual conversations and not like someone playing with a bunch of pull-string dolls.

so have they implemented a mode to link swings to individual button presses? or is it still the same as platinum demo

One person said the combat felt way better here than in the demos but they didn't elaborate.

I'm a little worried XV will share elements of MGSV's story presentation. Few and far in-between these long segments of filler. Perhaps that's completely unfounded, but a few of these previews allude to that.

Makes me feel like this will be a game non-fans enjoy, but more core fans will despise.

This is my biggest fear. I'm really scared after MGS5... but I guess the difference here is MGS5 showed off all its cutscenes in its trailers ahead of release!

Has Tabata mentioned anything about there being few story sequences in the game? Because Kojima was very upfront about how MGSV was going to cut back heavily on cutscenes, with a good chunk of the background story being told through cassette tapes.

Well, they did actually have conversations looking at the video. Something about Prompto wanting to come see Cindy but he can't since he doesn't have his car, so Noctis was talking about lending the Regalia. And another one approaching the Galdin Quay.

Nah, he said the number one focus is telling the story, but just in a larger world.

Like, most of the hunts in this video are from side quests I bet. If you go story point to story point, things should get quicker. I've been told that what people experience and how they feel about it may depend on how much you delve into side quests. Which makes sense, it would be jarring to do hunts for 3 hours instead of a crucial story mission.

so its still the hold-button to attack but with the d-pad weapon switching? i heard that it can now be played like a normal action game where u need to press consecutively to continue a combo.

Well, yeah. The problem is it's supposed to sound natural but it sounds like canned speech instead. The clip immediately after the offer is a good example.

Edit: The Galdin Quay one.

So the game will be utter shit then?

Got it. Moving on.

I will still play the hell out of it, though. For Prompto-Senpai.

They mentioned the rest of the party acting as though they are being controlled by the gambit system, but unless you can actually change their actions, it sounds more like the pawn system from Dragon's Dogma to me.

What I'm reading about the opening doesn't sound promising. It seems like they're trying to copy other successful games' in medias res openings without getting why they work.

At least combat is sounding increasingly more promising.

The stuff shown in this video is pretty clearly not the entirety of Chapter 0, but a quick sneak peek at it.

I'm trying to stay spoiler free on this. Anyone mind answering one question for me?

Has it been said whether or not the combat is crisper and less floaty than it was in Platinum?

A few impressions have mentioned to be "better" than the demos.

Holding is an option don't think you can't get away with it and everything is easy, one of the reviewers said so. You can tap like a regular action game and you can switch weapons in realtime via the Dpad.

Can you guys knock it off. You're kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy by baiting responses. Opinions are opinions, and GAF actually isn't a hive mind.
So I go into a new thread of FFXV pretty much daily at this point and it's mostly positive with a few discussions tailored around some negative comments and when I defend XV's hype (not how good it is, literally just the hype), I get asked to knock it off?

I know GAF isn't a hivemind, that's pretty much exactly what I'm alluding to

After today I'm skeptical as well, but you seen unnecessarily keen on negating positive impressions on people who've actually played the game this E3 and now at Gamescom. It's all there for you to read.

Maybe the game isn't so bad after all? I think saying the combat at least being better is dismissing that people generally liked what they played.

IMPOSSIBLE.

You can "lol" all you want. The impressions are all there.
Yeah mate, I know, I just read two that thought Chapter 0 was rubbish.

When did I negate any positive impressions about Gamescom? I made a specific comment about Chapter 0 and I said the combat sounds increasingly better.

Get over yourself.

I dunno, when someone says at least it gives a totally different impression. It's probably me, though.

Thanks for the response. I hope it's true!

At the very least, the combos now start off with a "blitz" attack which has Noctis instantly teleporting to enemies that are far away. It helps the flow of combat way better, since using warp strike actually pauses the game for a few seconds and doesn't let you combo as neatly as this blitz attack seems to

EDIT: wow I just reread that prompt. Turns out the chained attacks are called "blitz." But my point still stands, they only had that teleport attack for aerial attacks initially but now added it for ground attacks

You literally called out a single other poster before they'd even made a post in the thread. That's baiting.

Is there really any reason to believe square wouldn't show more cutscenes, if they had exciting or interesting scenario events to show? The last E3 trailer did not seem to present a particularly eventful game.

To me it feels like they've been holding off on showing too much. That's why they repeatedly show off the Liede/Duscae areas.

Well since the game has been delayed, will it now be patched for Neo? I don't want to play it on either the PS4 or God forbid the XB1. It needs to be played on hardware that can keep up

But is that really likely? This is the company that showed the end of type 0 in one of its trailers.

Also looks like they showed the ending area in the E3 trailer too. Just a very small glimpse of it. But in terms of the overall world they've been holding back it seems.

I love how Cidney's character basically devolves down to 'the less said about her, the better'. Square Enix is a freaking genius for dressing her up the way she looks and expect people to take her seriously.

You know who in this game needed alternative outfit the most? It's Cidney. If I play this game and anybody enters my room and she's in the screen, I'd die of embarrassment.

I'm relieved that Square have mostly stopped the peeping camera bullshit from the demo. I think there was only the slow camera pan when the gang first meets her? I'd actually forgotten how uncomfortable her design looks, poor gal must be wearing a bikini/push-up bra hybrid from hell to keep her breasts that close to her collarbone. Bikinis of the future. The true fantasy based on reality. I'm still really enjoying her English VA, at least.

The "too much time between story moments" some people are talking about here reminds me of that "Clinton years" review of ff7, with the exact same complaint XD
