Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Altissia and how small and restricted it actually was, was actually one of my biggest disappointments of the game.
I would have wished for Altissia to be some kind of Novigrad or more fittingly Beauclair. They praised it as an experience like that before...but that was actually pretty much just hyperbole. :(
I spent most of my time in Altissia playing Pokemon Moon while waiting for the gondola rides to finish >.>

I refuse to believe they made the whole map just for the sake of it. Something just feels off....

I mean you could have skipped the rides. You didn't try to do it?

Someone compiled a bunch of scenes shown in trailers/ATRs that didn't make it into the full game. Obviously the 2013 trailer was a different game entirely but it's interesting to see how much of Tabata's own stuff didn't make it: http://abload.de/img/vlcsnap-error8599pso4.jpg
Holy moly. I forgot about all of that.
This game could've used the datalog from XIII.
I'm usually not big on datalog type things, but this game actually probably could have used one. Anything really.
The datalog is never the right solution to substitute real relationship building character moments. :-x
Oh, absolutely not.

But give the state of her character and their relationship, the game is desperately needing anything of substance. I'd much prefer to get better character building in maybe some flashback cutscenes with her or some kind of gameplay via a date with her in Altissa.

But honestly, a datalog-style journal of their past would be welcome too at this point. Anything to make the player give a damn.
Better than what we got though.
Shockingly, yeah.

You should have skipped the rides you goober :p

Won 500k from Justice Monsters V machine in Altissia. Finally no more issues with cash. Though for plat I need to grind marks anyway.

But JMV is so stupid but still its sort of fun and I don't know why because it feels completely pointless and there is no challenge at all. You just use the right ball on the proper elements for extra damage. But I think its best to just hit bumpers for the slot machine to appear.

1. Complete quests and use the expericast trick.

2. When you complete the game, you get the keys. Those dungeons are accessible post game.

3. Complete the Fort Garithsmouthsomething mission (need to be level 55) and obtain the Strange Engine. You'll need to have two other items (I believe you get them in the story) in order to get the Regalia Type F. You Have to speak with Cindy.

i just got that car at level 38 that mission was pretty hard especialy the bosses.

Car is awesome btw looks so good.

Re-playing FFIX and it makes me smile when Zidane is smart enough to realize Garnet needs to hide her identity since she is a runaway princess. This includes not using her real name and teaching her to speak more like the common folk. This is something that bugged me in Final Fantasy XV. There was never this sense that Noctis needed to hide who he was or be careful out in public...like ever.

It's not like there were many people in the world anyway.
The empire had like 4 people working for them.

The Magitech soliders seemed to just go around attacking at random and holding a giant flag.

Serious question, why did nobody recognize Ardyn as the chancellor of Nilflheim? At least the "well informed" Ignis should've recognized at least his name...

That such a huge oversight considering Ignis is the brains of the group, Tabata did a huge mess.. at least have ardyn say a fake name when he was around the bros.

Eat it game !! Lol

Erm.. they did recognise his name, do you not remember the cutscene where Ardyn reveals his name and everyone's like "The Imperial chancellor !"

Prior to that he never revealed his name and when asked who he is he just says "A man of no consequence". It is plausible that they know his name but not his face seeing how they belong to opposing factions and Noctis and bros are far removed from politics. Unlike Regis who recognised Ardyn in the Kingsglaive just from his appearance.

The best is when people did recognize him and decide to have him go run errands. Also Lucis and Nilf don't even matter which is funny. I mean all these towns I'm visiting are have supposed to have been taken in the war right?

Noctis and Regis needed like a huge amount of scenes together ;_; first mgsv and now this.. the two biggest what if that I will take to the grave.

just finished the game.

what the fuck is the crystal? they were all inside it in that last scene right?
Luna came back to life? Regis wrote her a letter? what?
was Ardyn Notics's brother?

the fuck was any of that

I'm seeing a trend with people who like games like X and XIII over games like XII and V.

For a reference, here's a rough ranking for my FF titles:

XII > V > IX > VII > VIII > VI > IV > III > I > II > XIII > X

I'm a big fan of XIV, but I don't see the point of ranking the MMOs with the single player experiences because they offer completely different things.

I still need to do a lot of the side stuff in XV, and say this point I'd throw it right in the middle. I'm very much done with anime trope characters and ridiculous stories, but there is a lot to the game outside of those things, and that's what I'm into.

For me, first and foremost is the gameplay and what the game offers in terms of things to do. I love FFXII. There is a giant open world that offers things such hunts, and the battles are plentiful, rewarding and streamlined. I can put hours into the game (I've finished the Zodiac version at least three times with things like the hunts completed) and be throughly entertained the entire time. On the flip side, I could barely tell you what happens in the games story. It isn't important to me. The game was a Game first, the story took a backseat. Beautiful world, though. I also enjoyed the characters. I'm still on the side that believes XII has the best dub of any JRPG, ever.

I absolutely loathed X and XIII, with X being the biggest offender. These games threw you on linear paths and forced terrible stories at you. The gameplay took a back seat in these games. X's idea of a dungeon was pushing pedestals. The combat was a joke (X just having you swap out characters to match the enemies weakness, like some sort of simple puzzle game and XIII having more or less the same thing with the paradigm swapping). There was barely anything outside of the main story.

So, while XV had a pretty awful story, it has more to it. I beat the game in a little under 30 hours with a handful of side quests and hunts done, and i can easily put in double that to clear up the remainder. I'll forget about the story. I mean, there was a segment with monsters near double my level swarming me in packs. I actually want to work up to the point where I can beat them.

So we'll see where XV finalises in my rankings.

The crystal hosts the light of the world, and only Noctis' bloodline can wear the ring that allows the ability to harness the power.
The letter was before the game started. They are dead.
Ardyn is Noctis' great uncle of 1000 years ago.

The crystal is the last of four and the only thing capable of restoring balance to Eos (I think).

My takeway was that the ending was in the afterlife. My guess is it was a leftover from the FNC mythos with the "gate of the dead" in the plot but it works standalone anyway.

Ardyn was the original chosen, like Noct, and carried the Lucis Caelum name thousands of years ago. The world suffered a calamity back then, and he absorbed darkness and daemons into himself to save it. Because of this, he became cursed, was denied ascension into the afterlife, and became immortal. Then Noctis' ancestor came and took his name, his place as the chosen, and demonized him as a monster. Ardyn couldn't die, so he was forced to live with losing everything and holding a ton of darkness and daemons inside of him. He hated Noct because he was the ultimate realization of everything he lost.

It was all actually a dream that took place inside of the crystal. The reveal is at the end when you see the throne room and hear the letter from Regis. Notice you don't see Noctis and Luna at first, then they appear? That is when we flash back to the dream world they were all trapped in. And slowly the darkness from that world was spreading to the real world because of the starscourge. And yeah, Ardyn was actually Noctis' long lost brother. He'd been rejected by the crystal before Noctis was born, and wasn't allowed to ascend. For revenge, he wanted to torture and kill the brother that surpassed him as the chosen king by locking him in the dream world of the crystal. You know the moment Noctis gets pulled into the crystal and spends 10 years there? That was actually the only time he was able to get out of the dream. Then when he had regained his strength after reflection, he was able to go back in to finish the job.

This is all lies

Though I still think the final throne scene is a mix of the real and the afterlife. I think the banner commemorating Noctis as king is real life---in honor of the chosen king who saved the world from darkness. Then when we see Noctis and Luna, we're seeing the afterlife.

The datalog is never the right solution to substitute real relationship building character moments. :-x

How about 1000 Years of Dreams or the text interludes from Nier? Just shifting from dry exposition to prose makes a difference - of course, the writing being strong enough to carry it is much more of a concern there, and it's reasonable to assume XV's wouldn't be adequate for the task.

Oh wait

Noctis is reported dead by the reliable empire. So I'm going to go with no one even thinks that the prince is alive and wave it away as a look a like.

so Noctis is actually dead.... Bahamut said he had to sacrifice himself, right?
so everyone's dead and there is no "king of kings" anymore.... and the world is at peace. the fuck?

VII
XV
X
XIV
VIII

I just can't let go of how great the first half of the game is, that alone elevates it almost to the top of my favourites in the series.

The lack of fleshed out narrative, the disjointed second half, they brought the experience down but it just doesn't matter.

Looking forward to roaming the world for a while longer post-game. Any character DLC will be a must.

I'd seriously love to see a spin-off (book, movie, game, whatever) focusing on Ardyn and his rise and fall as a king and his path of revenge afterwards. How did he manage to become the chancellor of Nilflheim...etc.
Could be really cool, his character has such an interesting backstory.

Luna was too for a short while until she entered public space again. And then Noctis was alive again too. Then reported dead...AGAIN....after the leviathan battle. It is all a bit ridonkulous. Either way, Noctis needed to play it safe with his identity because everything outside of Insomnia had been in control of empire for a while. He had no idea who he could trust and who might recognize and report to empire. We can assume all those in the empire knew his death was a lie and was still very much on the lookout for him.

I think we can assume there is no need for a King of Kings anymore after what Noctis does. They kill Ifrit, who released the starscourge in the first place. Then they wipe out the darkness/starscourge. Maybe if Ifrit was alive still the threat could come back...? But I assume all is well and dandy after the sacrifice.

He had to give his life to use the power of the Kings.

What were you expecting a happy ending? Lol

This isn't true.
Ardyn Lucius Carlin was a resident of Lucius who was gifted and chosen by Astrals, he then saved the world by absorbing all the daemons and he became a hero. As a side effect of absorbing the daemons he became immortal. The king of Lucius was some Izunia guy who got jealous and demonised Ardyn which ultimately meant he lost the favour of the Astrals and was denied ascension. The Astrals then chose that Izunia guy who took the name Lucius Carlin...Noctis is his descendant.

Ardyn in turn took the name Izunia and started doing bad shit so that people associate the name Izunia with some monster. His ultimate goal was to end the bloodline of the king that took his name as well as his "gift".

Just finished it. Overall I enjoyed the game, but it could have been so much more. I will do all the Post-Game stuff because the gameplay flow is pretty awesome and entertaining.
The story was a mess presentation wise and all over the place. Ranging from MMO-cutscenes to absolute awesomeness. Too inconsistent, too little story bits, too little exposition, everything felt rushed and unfinished.
Only 2 CGs scenes in a Final Fantasy should be a punishable crime. The main cast carried the game, but it could still have been much better. I think it all boils down to the fact that it needed more cutscenes, WAY more cutscenes. More Story missions, bosses, etc.

Story wise it probably is the weakest FF game since FF III. Gameplay wise it is really fun, I was never bored or frustrated while playing (except Chapter 13, fuck that).

4/10 for Main Story, 8/10 for the rest.

What the shit was that after credit scene? Heaven?

Right. I forgot Luna is confirmed dead twice haha

I like to think about the job of the magitech ships. "sir we've got four people running through the fields" "Yep better go down there and attack them.

Flying is shit, a bad landing is a game over and the thing looks like a turd. The reason I stick with it is infinite gas though refuel isn't that much of an issue.

I'd say this is spot on.

As for Ardyn, he somehow wanted to face off against the True King only. He didn't give much shits about Regis after all, or the one who came before him. He didn't even bother with the bros when they shot him down.

I think only the True King, the one that held all the power of kings, could end his curse completely. And before that he arranged the wedding, so Noctis would be away from a bombarded Insomnia. Then he helps Noctis on his crusade for the Royal Arms and Astrals, and he deliberately lets him power up for 10 years and set up his own defeat. You do see his demon form sort of trying to defend himself, this isn't fleshed out well either. I never really got the idea that he had another form that would sometimes take him over.

You're ranking is somewhat close to mine. Definitely a match for the top 2. Not sure where I'll rank 15, but I have a feeling it will wind up pretty high. I'm willing to forgive a weak story if there are other things that work really well.

After I finish the post game content of 15, I'm going to try and finish the two FF games I never actually completed, 2 and 13. Got bored with both on previous attempts. Well I never finished the main story of 11, but that ship has sailed.

Ardyn in turn took the name Izunia and started doing bad shit so that people associate the name Izunia with some monster. His ultimate goal was to end the bloodline of the king that took his name as well as his "gift".

Did I miss this lore somewhere? I did not get this from the main story at all.

Also from Chapter 10 onwards it was pretty clear versusXIII was meant to be an action game, there is barely any RPG stuff left and even the final fight is an Action-Game boss. Meh.

Finished it. I don't care how underdeveloped the lore was - the actual, central story about four friends being pushed to their limits and overcoming adversities was excellent. Many of the plot points that received little to no development had enough presented on the side to make it easier to infer, and I greatly preferred that, in all but one or two scenes, the narration never left Noctis's perspective for more than a short period of time, or to show something absolutely necessary.

(And on that note, I thought that the worst scene was that one random one early on showing the empire having a meeting - something which was so bizarrely at odds with the narrative styling for the rest of the game and set a bizarre precedent that there might be future scenes that leave the party's perspective and take a more omnipotent narration.)

I stopped following Versus XIII around the time it was becoming clear it would never actually exist and was nothing more than a bunch of nice ideas and random scenes they showed to the public. Might have something to do with why I was happy with what we got.

Aside from chapter 13's dungeon. Jesus that was a misfire - went on too long, and it loses any aspect of horror when you can just hold triangle to take care of most any threat.

I actually really liked the final fight against Ardyn. It didn't end up being a hokey "now this is my final form" that so many Final Fantasy games rely on. Just king versus king. Man versus man. It was different for the series and I appreciated it.
