Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Man. I'm going through my footage of the game right now and the game seriously introduces its central storyline and threat a few hours before the end of the game...in the form of an utterly boring and flat conversation during a train ride. "Hey, uh, by the way, people have been saying Nights get longer and soon deamons will reign the world, crazy, eh?". This whole concept of the Starscourge (and, indeed, it's name) only ever really get's introduced during a random note in the Tutorial, not to be mentioned in the main game. And then, a few minutes later, Aranea just mentions in passing that the Empire is done, that Ravus got or will be executed, that the emperor is pretty much dead and, yeah, my main enemy and the very reason I started this road trip just kinda destroyed itself without their struggle ever being mentioned.

This game seriously has one of the worst narratives I have ever seen in a AAA video game. It's like reading a book where 500 out of 600 pages are missing and the 100 that are left are full of barely readable notes and changes. This would be the equivalent of (Final Fantasy X spoiler)
some side character telling Tidus in passing that, hey, by the way, Seymour died and Sin turned into your father or something, alright, have a good one!"
.

It's seriously bold to release a product like this.

Bold? Oh stop. There's legit 100 hours of content here. I'm at level 66 at 77 hours. Its bold to release a product like Ride to Hell: Retribution, Duke Nukem Forever, or Aliens: Colonial Marines. You may not enjoy it and that's ok, but it's perfectly fine to release a product like this, seeing as how it's a complete game with a shit ton of things to do.

Absolutely. The biggest smile hit my face followed by the most nostalgic cackle. Only to be crushed when it says you cant explore it. Such a waste.

There were other moments like that as well:

- Not getting the chance to explore Tenebrae, pretty insulting it was just a backdrop
- The way you acquire Shiva, would have been a cool dungeon to explore instead of just having a fight on the train tracks
- They should have made you collect all 13 Royal Arms and have those inventive dungeons sown into the game

Thinking about it there are so many disappointing aspects to this game and yet I love it

The poster is talking specifically about the story, and he's right. Those 100 hours of content don't really add shit to the main storyline.

There is absolutely not 100 hours worth of content in this game. I'm at 40 hours, level 99, all dungeons complete. All I have left is the platforming dungeon and a few final hunts. Let's not exaggerate.

That's fine, but "this story is shit" isn't a fact, it's an opinion. I personally enjoyed it. I know many others who did as well. Those 100 hours of content added PLENTY for me.

So, yeah. There's nothing bold about it at all.

I finished the game with over 150 hours on the clock. I suppose it depends on your play style and how much you enjoy exploring the world and taking your time with it.

He isn't in X or XII if I recall. So it's more accurate to say that there are more Final Fantasy games without him than there are with him. Bahamut is a different story.

Really? He's definitely in more FF titles that not.

He's in 12. At least in revenant wings.

And....There's a ship in 12 named odin. That's something!

Eh..

Guess he doesn't show up in 10 though, huh...

Maybe in part 3.

I'm mostly angry with this game that they criminally under-utilized The World Of Ruin.

There is not much point in exploring that"world of ruin" when its identical but Dark all over(I prefer day time in this game) with the same enemies that you can normally fight anyway.

Noctis at this point was ready to take on Ardyn so it was full speed ahead to Insomnia.

It would've been padding.

I have no idea how you managed that but congrats. I'm nearly at 90 with two sealed dungeons and more left.

If I knew what I was doing I could reach lv 99 around 40 hours too.

That said, I platinum'd at 80 hours.

Won't touch the game again until they fix everything.

I mean in comparison to some FF games, it's def lacking cohesiveness, but gameplay wise it's legit as fuck and this game could have just been about getting 6 crystals before facing an ultimate evil and I'd still be happy as can be, cause the content and characters in the party made the experience, not the narrative.

Everyone has been (rightly) ripping FFXV for all the unresolved plot threads and seemingly missing cutscenes, but man, I rewatched the ending last night and choked up. The "plot" of this game might be a disaster but it resonated more with me than just about any game this year.

Don't think its the plot that's bad, its the narrative presentation (or lack of it thereof) that is dubious.

But about them tears. exactly man, grown man crying and shiyeeeet, they pulled every FF emo move ever and I knew Noct was going to die, but it wasn't him dying, it was that whole journey ending that wrecked me.

Right from when he enters the crystal and sees everything flash by. To the GOD EPIC fight with Ifrit, wow that was amazing, to the point he asks for that picture from Prompto.

To finally fighting that awesome asshole, it gave me everything and more, the game in terms of feel omnipotent and all powerful and chosen one like. Unlimited Lucian King Armiger mode is when you really feel the power of being someone like Noct.

And finally the worst thing they could do, play Stand By Me and pull out all your pics. Mayn had to go in the washroom and wonder why I was sobbing. And if it wasn't enough, here's a camp scene so if you're not tearing up yet, bring that tsunami out.

I think if you rush through the story, i doubt the journey resonates with you. But if you took your time on the road (as stupid as it may have felt at the time) - that end is a gut wrencher.

There are flaws abound in this game, but driving to work today listening to Wanderlust and Stand by Me, I have the most satisfied grin on my face. Its the same way I felt with IX and X, maybe way more this time. 10/10 GOTY for me, and not even close.

Bring post-game on! :D

I cried internally because I remembered Versus is really truly dead & not happening & that I could be dead before another FF comes out.

😂😭

40 hours with everything done?!

Show me the receipt, I'm 50 hours in and didn't even started the secret dungeons!

Yeah, i'm like over 60 hours in and my quest backlog is still massive and im not far into many questlines.

no way in hell is someone almost done every piece of content in this game in 40 hours

If you farm EXP through the wyvern hunt you can jump from level 50 to level 99 in ~3 hours. Then you can power through most of the endgame content–especially selling all the wyvern wings you received from farming the hunt over and over again. Essentially endless gil.

That's very impressive. I'm 100 hours in and just did all the dungeons and I believe all sidequests. Since the maximum hunting rank is 10 and some stuff at NPCs unlocks later, I might be looking at quite a few more, since my hunter rank is only 7. That and chocobo races are the only things I have left, aside from the ascension/food and fish galleries grind, which I'm not planning to do.

Just finished the game. The moment Noctis asked to take a photo with him I was already like "oh, no". That camping scene between credits was my breaking point though. Damn.

It's funny though, I've seen a lot of comments from people thinking that was them talking in the afterlife and everybody died. I guess they should patch in a "The night before the final fight..." subtitle with the December patch to make it as clear as possible. lol

Hug me, press sneak. ;_;

Um so I just got myself into Steyliff sealed dungeon without knowing it was 100 floors. I just beat a pack of wyverns. How much further do i need to go, cuz im worried about potions.

Just finished the Pitios Ruins, well under 3 hours. Some of you guys scared me with the 5 hours or more remarks.

Yeah it took me around 2-3hours.

I almost didn't do it because of the Kotaku article which said it was 5. Am glad I did end up doing it though, was mostly pretty fun.

Rewatched the ending and I think VIII's perfect ending made me enjoy XV's a little more then I did at first. The Final Fantasy Theme playing and then ending on the couple of the game was such a nostalgia moment for me. I also liked the logo change once it ends.

If only this game had written Luna better. Her death and then Noctis's could have been so much sadder. I'm still curious about DLC. I don't really care to have more for the men unless it's Cor or Ignis(I want to see his injury) but I already know the other two have planned DLC.

Edit: Also young Noctis looks so much better in his royal outfit.

Yes and then after acquiring all 13 Royal Arms, you get another quest to attain the summon for the Knights of the Round. The simple fact that there are thirteen nights and they don't have a summon for them - even though it shows it happening in the game - is ridiculous.

You must be playing the game at light speed then, because the average play time for completing all post game is way over the 40 hours mark. There are even people out there that have played it for 150 hours and some even posted in this thread.

There is TONS of content in the game, you are the one who is 'exaggerating'.

The entire ending or just the campfire scene? I can see the campfire scene for sure but the rest of the ending is a little eh.

Best ending in FF still goes to Crisis Core. It's still the only game I've encountered that actually blends storytelling and gameplay to create something that really takes advantage of the medium.

I like the whole ending tbh. From the kings killing Noctis to Ardyn's death in the afterlife to the campfire scene to seeing the sun rise again to seeing Luna and Noct in their afterlife fantasy free from they're destiny; I loved it all.
I even really liked the logo change.

But I do agree with the Crisis core statement though.

Crisis Core ending was another GOAT ending from Tabata, loved it.

But you also have to take into consideration the fact that the ending worked so well for us because of the FFVII: Universe that we were invested in. We knew about Zack and had seen him in Advent Children and knew a lot about him through the game including the original FFVII. So the impact that Crisis Core had on us was way more pronounced than something like FFXV, which is just a single game and a movie that doesn't even feature Noctis. There is the anime, I know. But still for the FFVII Universe, the content was released across several years while for FFXV, it all dropped within a short amount of time.

I think FFXV as a whole is far better than Crisis Core.Ending, gameplay, story, everything included.

Crisis Core is..well,let's not derail the thread.
The ending was cringeworthy and inconsistent with how Zack died in the original. At least FFXV's ending has more rawness to it which I prefer.

The campfire scene is gracefully done & actually resembles how something like this would go down realistically.
Its inspired by Ellie's ''ok'' at the end of TLoU.

Man, the ost of this game is amazing.... like it feels so powerful and representative of the foe you fight. If you fight a huge monster omnis lacrima blasts and it is amazing. The boss fight music is also sooo good. I wish I knew the lyrics.

Crisis core waz a lot of meh, made forgotten by the goats ending and nostalgia

Xv has too many shitty parts that can't be saved by an ending that was made worse by those parts

Does someone have the gif of Noctis and Luna looking at the picture of Ardyn at the end? I can't find it anywhere.

Lmao yes please.

Also I agree that having you obtain the royal arms as part of the story would've been cool, however at least that's actually addressed in-game with Luna giving that power to Noctis without him having to obtain every weapon. I also remember being like "so he got Leviathan and now he's ready for the empire?" but then it turns out that Shiva was believed dead, Bahamut's whereabouts weren't known, and Ifrit was evil. Or Luna didn't make it to them either (I wonder if she knew that Shiva was Gentianna?).

Can someone give me a quick run down on how the Ring of the Lucii works? I'm having a blast using it in the post game since it seems to one hit kill most enemies below my level, but I'd be lying if I said I understood exactly what it was doing and how it really works.

So speaking of Shiva,Did she die or did she not die ?

If she didn't die then whose massive corpse was that ? Or was she nearly dead then latched on to Gentiana's body or something like that ?

I also don't understand how we managed to obtain every summon's help, only to have the game tell us that the empire killed said summon ? If they killed summons, how do we manage to summon them ?

Can someone explain how the summon shenanigans work here ?

I dont care about the 50 (100 lol) hours of optional MMO fetch content if the Story is such a clusterfuck.

There's the Death spell, which doesn't work on every monster, and some of the stronger monsters take a lot longer to kill through that method. It's notably effective on some of the Flan mobs, as some of the stronger versions of those monsters tend to be immune/resistant to most forms of damage outside of the ring or a specific magic element.

Then there's Holy, which is basically whatever your Defend/Dodge button is. You can hold it, but that pointlessly wastes MP, so ideally you'd just use it right before a monster attacks you, and then Holy damages them as you dodge the attack. So essentially, you can hurt monsters just by dodging while holding the button.

The last skill is called Alterna I believe, used by holding both the Lock-On button and Warp button if I recall correctly, opens up a wormhole or whatever. I think you can only use it when you have your full MP, and gives you a brief window of super armor when using it. I suppose it's an autokill move, but for a lot of the stronger monsters you'll face post-game, they are flat-out immune to it, which is kind of lame, but whatever.

Summons are immortal gods. They can't be killed.

Empire thought that they killed Shiva but they didn't. It was just a 'form' for Shiva in the Human world. Shiva also appears to have multiple forms as seen in her Summon so killing just one of them doesn't equal to kill all of her.

Summon come to our help because they are immortal. The game using killing them mechanic as a way to show that by killing them, Noctis is granted the ability to summon them. Luna also helps Noctis with gaining the favor of the Summons while two of them don't comply with it, Titan and Leviathan. Ramuh and Shiva are convinced by Luna to help Noctis.

I dont care about the 50 (100 lol) hours of optional MMO fetch content if the Story is such a clusterfuck.
'Optional fetch content'?

There are high level hunts and dungeons to explore in post-game, not to mention collect the 13 royal weapons. The post-game is not full of 'fetch quests'.
