Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Lack of geometric detail aside, shit, that's awesome.

The cliffs and bridges in first pic, and the different heights off to the right of second pic. Always seemed Insomnia was a lot flatter from the overhead shots both in XV and Kingsglaive.

Oddly enough machinery is really a "depends on your needs" weapon type.

Need to do status ailments to enemies: Bioblaster +
Need to do crowd control: Gravity well +
High dps for single enemy at range: Auto Crossbow +
Large aoe: Noiseblaster+ (though if you are past chapter 13, you can't get this)
High dps close range: Drillbreaker+
High aoe dps: Circular Saw+

In terms of standard blast damage the Drillbreaker+ is best followed by the noiseblaster +

The bolded isn't true at all. While the upgrade component magnetron from the Noiseblaster is a guaranteed pick up in Ch 13 (as long as you find it slightly off the main path), it's a 5% drop from Ma-Hoplomachus (level 46) mechs that come from dropships.

I'm willing to bet the terrain got morphed during the 10 years of darkness.

It's also pretty ballsy for any city architect to be okay with buildings so close to the cliff edges, but I guess conventional logic doesn't quite apply when your king knows MAGIC

Finally finished this today. Goddamn the finale. Bahamut. Ifrit. Shiva. This game does summons better than all the games before it IMO. Always fucking hyped when they appear.

I'm saddened now. At least I have a couple of trophies left to get and I wanna try the post-game dungeons so there are still things to do to keep me occupied.

Noctis is probably my favourite FF protagonist too.

Man. I'm going through my footage of the game right now and the game seriously introduces its central storyline and threat a few hours before the end of the game...in the form of an utterly boring and flat conversation during a train ride. "Hey, uh, by the way, people have been saying Nights get longer and soon deamons will reign the world, crazy, eh?". This whole concept of the Starscourge (and, indeed, it's name) only ever really get's introduced during a random note in the Tutorial, not to be mentioned in the main game. And then, a few minutes later, Aranea just mentions in passing that the Empire is done, that Ravus got or will be executed, that the emperor is pretty much dead and, yeah, my main enemy and the very reason I started this road trip just kinda destroyed itself without their struggle ever being mentioned.

This game seriously has one of the worst narratives I have ever seen in a AAA video game. It's like reading a book where 500 out of 600 pages are missing and the 100 that are left are full of barely readable notes and changes. This would be the equivalent of (Final Fantasy X spoiler)
some side character telling Tidus in passing that, hey, by the way, Seymour died and Sin turned into your father or something, alright, have a good one!"
.

It's seriously bold to release a product like this.

imagine how I feel when I've had to fight the 3 red giants + nagarani 4 times.
Never again...

I almost quit the game I was so exhausted lol.

That was a nightmare...

Noctis is probably my favourite FF protagonist too.

Hopefully the DLC's will add even more summons.

Noctis is my favorite FF protagonist as well.

Everyone has been (rightly) ripping FFXV for all the unresolved plot threads and seemingly missing cutscenes, but man, I rewatched the ending last night and choked up. The "plot" of this game might be a disaster but it resonated more with me than just about any game this year.

Agree 100%.

That reminds me: so what are the requirements to have Aranea hop out of a dropship and come help you fight monsters?

Is it at night only? Is it only if you're driving in your car and get stopped by daemons? What are the triggers for this? Pure randomness after chapter 7/8? a later chapter? postgame?

That's exactly what happened to me, night, got attacked by daemons while driving (2 red giants). Prpbably chapter 8. Ended up fleeying anyways since I was too underpowered.

tabata is out of his mind for not giving an achievement for the pitioss dungeon. waste of time, if you haven't done it yet don't even bother

Now, can we convince SE to remake XV with Nomura a decade from now ;P

I don't think the problem is with unresolved plot thread as much as the fact that most of the story is just not told, while the rest is squeezed in the last few hours of the game. It's just a mess and for me the ending wasn't that great at all, not to the point of forgiving the disappointment the plot was.

Choosing the photo to take with you was a really, really nice moment. The entire ending was really well done, and although I liked the Luna and Noctis part (what's up with that?), I feel it was a sort of cop out and not really necessary. It's like they wanted to the best of two worlds in making Noctis develop through Luna's death and still give them both a happy ending.

Otherwise I loved the ending. I never like it when Final Fantasy goes into these dream-like spaces but I'm used to it by this point and it wasn't overused like previous titles.

So...any videos explaining the story?

I used the picture of Jared I had.

NEVER FORGET!

I played a bit of Lightning Returns lately. It got me thinking... Was LR:FFXIII's engine what used to be Versus XIII's supposed engine?

The end part of the game had lots of feels and is very "Final Fantasy". Like it's been 15 years since I had that feels.

I was talking about this with my brother the other day and I think it's the non 'plot' bits that actually make it feel so special, much like Crisis Core's ending (Same director I think?) you get a lot more out of the resolution if you spent a lot of time in the game world with the characters just enjoying their company.

It's a very rare form of storytelling in games and one I hope to see used more, the ending actually destroyed me, just like Crisis Core's DMW memories :(

I'm mostly angry with this game that they criminally under-utilized The World Of Ruin. Fuck, that could have been an entire second half of the game if you ask me. Not being able to explore the world, fighting all the baddies you pass on the way to Hammerhead and seeing what the world became after Ardyn's ascension is just so disappointing.

Hell, Ardyn himself is so disappointing because he's such a great character and they took almost no time to flesh him out. I think he could have even been Kefka level amazing if they just took the time to explore his back story and give him some goddamn meaning. And his final fight was so underwhelming as well. Ifrit was more amazing a brawl than he was.

Also, the ending felt like a bit of a cop-out to me. Is it just me?

I think everything in the end game was strong, though I agree that Ardyn should have had more back story. Still, even despite the lack of fleshing out I think he's a top tier character/villain.

Still so disappointed world of ruin was nothing. I was absolutely hyped when I awoke and those words came on screen. I thought I had another ff6 on my hands. But alas, huge missed opportunity. I'm still sad about it.

Absolutely. The biggest smile hit my face followed by the most nostalgic cackle. Only to be crushed when it says you cant explore it. Such a waste.

It's not the strongest narrative delivery, absolutely. But disaster? FXIII's story was a disaster. MGSV's story was a disaster. I can think of many games with much weaker stories or narratives. I'd say if the plot resonated with you that strongly, it did its job. I personally enjoyed the story for its simplicity and poignancy near the end.

I say all this respectfully of course :)

First thought that crossed my mind was, "Oh shit, i'm gonna have to explore the world of ruin and find the others aren't I?" It was such a let down once I got the exposition dump from Talcott at Hammerhead. Ardyn could have been one of the top five FF baddies but was held back by the rushed story and missing segments that probably got cut from the game because of time.

I loved the final boss. It felt personal and was exciting. Not every FF villain needs 12 different evolutionary forms.

I agree on the World of Ruin. I got the FFVI feels too and certainly would have enjoyed exploring a bit of that landscape. I'll actually be surprised if they don't make it accessible via a patch.

Having said, it didn't take away from my experience with it enough to really taint my opinion of it. But everyone is different!

Just finished the Pitios Ruins, well under 3 hours. Some of you guys scared me with the 5 hours or more remarks.

It's so out of place but I loved it, such an exhilarating experience, reminded me of Catherine in some places. A dungeon that has no enemies is definitely a welcome change of pace in this game. Have to say the hardest thing about it was landing the Regalia during the night lol.
