I'd just like to have experienced 13 "as intended."

Agreed. Reposting from another thread just now:I was lead to believe that Chapter 13 would be some broken mess from a gameplay perspective... but it isn't. It's actually quite accomplished in what it sets out to do. It's just that it's a change of pace from the main game and what people signed up for, and many people aren't gonna like that. It's this game's "water level".
The survival horror section freaked me out and was one of the more memorable sections of the game to me. Sure it's stressful and unforgiving.... like survival horror should be. Gave me REmake or SH feels.
The early "only use magic ring on enemies" part is a little weak, but it's a small fraction of Chap 13.
It will never not be baffling to me how hyperbolic the hate on that chapter is over here. I completely stayed off GAF from the release onwards for 2 weeks and was surprised to see everybody talking about that one chapter when I came back to post my impressions, like, I had to make sure and check which chapter they're even talking about, lol. I mean, I thought the section was maybe 30min too long, too, but "THE WORST LEVEL I HAVE EVER PLAYED IN ANY GAME IN MY WHOLE LIFE"? Nah. Come on. I've been playing games for 20 years now. Tons of games I loved had more annoying filler/padding/backtracking/badly-balanced sections. I actually enjoyed that chapter's change of pace and atmosphere after having quested for almost 70 hours before getting there.
To anyone that cares: I'm 31 years old and I just beat my first Final Fantasy ever and I liked it a lot. I adore this game right now.
That is awesome to hear!
This was also my first Final Fantasy and I liked it so much I actually watched Kings Glaive. Considering i've never played many JRPGs at all, this may lead to trying others. Now what to try is the better question.
Still don't understand the story nearly as well as I'd like, but that didn't stop me enjoying this game immensely.
Whew...
Edit:
Wow. That's super cool to hear that you're interested in playing more JRPGs because of FFXV. Are you interested in turn-based combat or willing to give it a shot? Persona and past FF games are great fun. If your more into action oriented combat then the Kingdom Hearts and Tales of games are great to jump into.
Honestly I am open to everything. Not sure why I never gave them a shot in the past. Persona/Kingdom Hearts worth diving straight into?
Persona is kinda like FF in that each one is unique and isn't reliant on previous entries, although gameplay remains relatively the same and doesn't mess with its formula. Which works for the series.
Kingdom Hearts you kinda have to play from the beginning to understand what is happening. It is one continuous story. I would wait for the 1.5 + 2.5 Remixes to come out in March (which will give you most of the KH games on PS4) once you're done with those jump into 2.8 which continues off those games.
Persona is turn based and Kingdom Hearts is an Action JRPG like XV.

Agree 100%. My main issue honestly was just the slow movement (jumped all the time to move at least a bit quicker) and that it was ~30min too long. Otherwise I liked the change of pace and atmosphere too. The way Ardyn talked to Noctis throughout was cool, but what bothered me a bit was that some of Ardyn's lines started repeating, but only in the later parts, which made me think it was a bug or something.Regarding Ch 13- I personally liked the change of pace and aside from the boring brown hallway parts, liked the change in scenery and it evoked a very Midgar/Shinra feeling.
But I truly, truly, feel that the whole chapter would have been 75% better if the player movement wasn't gimped. I don't hear many people mentioning this, and it was the single biggest reason for why I personally was angry during that chapter. Why was sprint disabled and the movement so sluggish? Noct always had his shoulders raised and arms hovering like he was sneaking, which I get is what a lot of the chapter is about but I was desperately going "COME ON!!!!" just moving around and exploring looking for treasure and stuff, and even trying to do the jumping trick to get around faster (like in towns where you couldn't sprint) did nothing. I was mostly dodge rolling forward to make progress but it still was super slow until you were reunited with your bros and the controls returned to normal.
Story wise, structure wise, and change of pace wise, I liked the chapter quite a bit. I also like how the Ring of Lucis gave Holy and Death, some other classic FF spells, a chance to be in the game. (Void was called something else in a past FF too, no?

I'm not sure if being overleveled (99) hindered or helped my 13 experience. I certainly didn't feel the tension of survival horror but I also wasn't frustrated by losing my weapons.
Thanks for info! I'll have to buy those once they come out in March. Can't believe it has taken me this long to even try a lot of these games.
Black Suit:
![]()
The Black Suit is in the game as it's own thing because at the end of the game Noctis is in it (after the Kingly stuff has fallen off the suit due to the battle with Ardyn) and shows up when you rest or camp while wearing it. It's just not usable as a costume (yet, hopefully).
trying to get the item to unlock the locked doors in each Dungeon. Need help figuring out what I need to do still.
Ive got all the Royal Arms, Went back and did Steyliff Grove, and just finished Costlemark last night and the lady will still not give me the item lol. What am I missing? Is there anyway to see which dungeons you havent done yet or something? Are there Dungeons without Royal Arms?
The only thing I can think of is that I havent done the End Game Dungeon with all the puzzles and no combat, but I thought it wasnt needed for the item.

Had this problem, and was actually missing Daurel Caverns. It's south part of the map, somewhat close to the Lighthouse place.
You've beat the game, right?
Tonberries give me the fear.
Steyliff sealed dungeon down. Two to go. I hope they aren't hundred floor gauntlets.

How do you get Coeurl whiskers? I can't target them like the horns for some reason and they refuse to drop once I kill it.

Its a random drop from a Coeurl. Pretty sure its a rare drop too. There's a dish ignis can make to up drops by 50%.
"Off my chair jester, the king sits there" is probably the most badass line I've heard in Final Fantasy.

Accolades trailer came out today and feels like it should belong in here haha.
I'm curious, what happens if you don't have any pictures saved when Noctis asks Prompto for one at the end? Are any pictures saved automatically or does it take a generic group shot?

Listening to Noctis's Theme again reminds me the ending and gets my throat all tighten up.
This game nailed the ending, it got me real good, Noctis's end is tragic and sudden.
He disappears, fades away into nothingness and then...credits and all the stuff to pull the knife even deeper.
I haven't been this touched by a game's ending since FFX.

I actually experienced this. Yes, in the end, they give you two group photos to pick.
Which group photos are they? Is one of them the one you take with the Regalia?

I think so. And the other one was at Cape Caem together with Iris, Cor, Talcott, and others; which was the one I ended up picking.

OH come the fuck on.
It was bad enough that they showed any chapter 14 footage prior to the games release, but now they basically spoil every major fight in the game and some very key moments?
Bahamut's reveal & his summon, the fight with ifrit, ssj noctis w/ leviathan, part of luna's death cutscene?
Jesus christ.
Akio Ofuji is the goddamn marketing marketing producer ffs, was this an error only by the NA branch, or was it his fault the entire time? If someone doesn't get horribly reprimanded or fired from this I'm gonna be livid, because a lot of marketing for this game has been... really fucking bad.
This is an overreaction. I beat this game twice and nothing they show in that trailer is a complete spoiler of the entire game. Heck, the ifrit boss fight doesn't have the word "IFRIT" plastered all over the screen, they're showing you a boss fight of the enemy teased in the opening cut scene of the game. If you never played this game and saw this trailer it would tell you nothing about what the game is from a story perspective.
You know they're spoilers because you know the context of all of this.
