Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

It would have been too human. Even if I like Gentiana more than Shiva visually, I don't think she'd have fit as a summon. Though maybe they could have retained more elements of her design for Shiva, like a similar fringe and maybe even white robes approximating the silhouette of her outfit. The current Shiva design could even be retained for the additional ones that appear during the summon sequence; clearly distinguishing which is the lead could give the scene more focus.

In that scenario, I like the in-universe justification of the other "Shivas" being various women Gentiana granted a form of immortality to throughout the ages after their untimely deaths. Maybe Luna could be part of her harem when she shows up against Ifrit...
Ifrit's just a shirtless dude with horns though, and Bahamut is a man with girly eyes wearing armor instead of an actual dragon. This is the most grounded FF yet.

I finished it. Enjoyed it overall, but the treatment of female characters still made me deeply unhappy. The closure between the bros was lovely though. Overall 6/10, with the 4 mainly deducted for Luna & similar bullshit.

FFTA 1 and 2's Shiva looked very human also.

Okay I'm missing something in the Costlemark Tower. I get to a floor with boxes stacked in specific numbers and a warp pad that takes me to the entrance.

They retained Ifrit's colour scheme, and made sure to keep Bahamut's visible human features to a minimum despite the reinterpretation - overall, they still read as deities rather than regular humans. Having Shiva use Gentiana's regular appearance would be a much larger change, and would definitely look out of place among the other Astrals.

FFTA 1 and 2's Shiva looked very human also.

She looks like a SMT demon, the costume is enough to stop her being perceived as a regular person.

Do they explain Arydn's back story well or not really? I'm interested to know why some people call him a great villain when it seems like they don't really focus on what he is doing up to the point I am in the story.

His motivations are really clear, and he actually manages to achieve his goals without resorting to convoluted bullshit. Characterization may be on the thin side, but I don't think it hurts his role in the story considering the fact that he, like everyone else, is a tool to develop Noctis' character. He's arguably the most well realized main antagonist since Kuja imo.

Still, a fine line between what they came up with Shiva and that human form. Eve turning her skin blue would be better than magically stripping and getting breast implants and becoming a blizzard harem.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tabata wanted to change the names and look of the main characters. I mean he basically did with Old Noct but to even a more larger extent. Or he thought it would be funny for a lot of characters to have basic names.

I'm by no means saying it was the right decision, or the best possible design - just that a distinct Shiva design was necessary. I'd have preferred a design closer to Gentiana that did more than just levitate erotically when summoned.

You have to go in that room at night.

Edit : Oh yeah my bad, that's the elevator thing... I'm still trying to find the right path -_-

He absolutely did but felt that the audience was way too attached already due to years of speculation/projecting. They didn't even have voices until 2011 and they were shown as far back as 2008, (for an example of this, look at the reaction to Stella being removed). And just look at the designs of the cast of supporting characters outside of Nilfheim, this game is incredibly contemporary despite how out of place the main cast looks in comparison.

Gentiana already looks different from the other summons, (and npcs in the game), though.

What is so bad about Ch 13? Several other people have said the same thing about it. What exactly does it consist of?

3 hour slog through a bland Niflheim base that consists of tiny corridors with hard af enemies, most of it solo Noctis without weapons, forcing you to rely on shitty magic, and I swear to god it NEVER ENDS. I felt like I was playing it for ten years.

That sounds about right for this game... bunch of questionable decisions.

I'm about 8 hours in and if I didn't already know what was going in, or who certain people were or what their roles were, or what happened in Kingsglaive/Brotherhood, I would be lost in the fucking sauce. This is bizarro world Final Fantasy.

Gameplay is fun tho, so far.

I was referring to the existence of seperate human and summon designs for Gentiana and Shiva which I believe were necessary for the reasons I went over previously, not Gentiana's visual distinctness when considered alone.

There's a clean rip of SOMNUS ULTIMA, and I can't listen to it for another five hours...

;-;

Is the Santorini-inspired town in the game?

And where do you buy the FFXIV and Type-0 soundtracks? They're the only ones I'm missing. At chapter 3 atm.

Bahamut explains it but Ardyn himself also talks about it when Noctis is getting consumed by the Crystal.

SO GOOD.

Does anyone know if there is a way to view the weapon models? Is that even possible in this game? Also, is there a monster library?

Even the history of the Oracle is explained and she was given the power of the Oracle by the Diablos or some other diety. The first Oracle was from Tenebrae and so is Luna.

There is a lot of backstory through all the cosmology stuff that can be read all over the Lucis region.

I love scripted events. I decided to complete multiple side quest in chapter 6 while Iris is in my group and we rode Chocobos to all the destinations with her on a pink one. Decided to take the detour on route to Cape Caum and she started talking about how she has never seen a person on the back of a Chocobo and has never gotten on one before, and asked if we have ever gotten on one. Part of me was just saying "hey, we have been riding Chocobos for about an hour now, where have you been?"

Felt like i was playing Resident Evil.

Luna ended up being an obvious cross between Yuna and Aerith(especially with the oracle duties stuff. All i could recall when she was speaking on the radio was Yuna still doing her summoning duties after marrying Seymour)

But was she as impactful as either of them?

I started writing the Thing. And I talk about the Yuna similarities. I think Tabata was trying to echo Yuna, but failed because Yuna grows as a character and Luna doesn't. She's a static entity who exists to serve the narrative needs of the male characters.

- Change Chapter 0 into you just walking around a small part of Insomnia. I don't give a fuck if it's a slog, it will help the story greatly.
- Cor is underutilized greatly. I feel bad for Mathew Mercer. Should have had him become a party member during the Altissia sequence or Chapter 13.
- Ravus sudden change of sides contradicts his actions in Kingsglaive. Should have showed more of him.
- Luna should have had at least one night with Noctis in Altissia. They should have went to go see the dress or eat dinner. Have her dressed up in disguise or something.
- Show Niflheim civilians turning into deamons. Same with Iedolas.
- Show at least a few more flashbacks with Regis and Noctis. The only one we get is when the Regalia breaks down in Chapter 13.
- Show the perspective of the bros during the Leviathan sequence. Have Ardyn be the one to damage Ignis.
- Have Verstael be one of the baddies in the later chapters such as 10 or 11. Maybe he doesn't know Prompto is his son but Prompto knows he's his father so he runs away causing him to get capture by Ardyn.
- Develop Ignis a bit more. Gladio, and Prompto have their own self conflict, but Ignis not so much.
- Have Iris and Cor be guest party members in Chapter 14. Don't just skip to being next to the capital. You know how much more effective it would have been if you walked all the way from Hammerhead to the Capital. Let Cor and Iris leave the party once you reach the part that the game starts in.
- Fight Ardyn in the afterlife with everyone on your side. Luna and Regis become a party member for a few minutes. You do a link strike with each single one, imagine how cool would be to do one with Regis and Luna. End it with you holding the summon button in order to summon Knights of the Round.

I wouldn't change the two ending scenes. But if they did at least all that then this game could have been one of my all time favorites. If they did at least half of it it would be my GOTY.

Edit: Also add Bahamut and Ifrit as summons. They already have the animation for pretty much both so why the fuck isn't in the game. Despite the fact we have an item called Mark of the Draconian.

I'm sorry, i don't find the secret dungeon interesting at all, i had to spoil what the hell it was due the game dissapointing me time and time again.

A 4-5 hours dungeon with no enemies and no clear or special reward, that's a huge facepalm for the list of epic facepalms i've had with this game.

Posted this in the OT but probably better to discuss here:

So I wanted to have a little discussion about the true identity of Ardyn.

This is the speech that Ardyn gives Noctis as he is being absorbed into the crystal in chapter 13:

"In ages long past, an incurable scourge ravaged mankind. A tiny menace that twisted men into monsters, the like of which you've seen. In Lucis lived a savior who could cure the afflicted. His body would come to host myriad daemons, that countless lives be spared. But a jealous King, one not yet chosen by the crystal, ostracized and demonized this healer of the people. Making a true monster of him.

I gave you my name earlier but you should know it was not the name given to me at birth. Ardyn Lucis Caelum is my proper name. You'll never guess whose name Izunia was.

Noct, killing you as a mortal will bring me scant satisfaction. Claim the crystal's power, arise as it's champion. Only once the crystal and King are no more...can I know redemption. Come back soon. I shall keep your friends company until you are ready."

Ok. So as we know from the final boss battle that Ardyn has the same abilities as Noctis/Lucian royal blood line implying he was a past King... but I am seeing some people say that he was the healer though, not the king. It would make sense and give him motivation to hate the King/blood line because he was helping people and then ostracized/demonized. At the same time he had to be a King because he has the same powers as Noctis.

Both perspectives make sense and don't at the same time. So which was he? The healer or the King? A little confused on this, maybe I am missing something.

The conversation with Bahamut inside the crysal clarifies a little bit but not really...just that Ardyn is the immortal Accursed and that only the true King can banish him for good at the cost of his own life.

Edit: In the Throne room Ardyn does say "this is the battle of Kings" so I guess he IS a past king for sure. So I guess I am more confused about how/why he becomes immortal/part daemon. Was it punishment from the six for what he did to the healer?

Luna ended up being an obvious cross between Yuna and Aerith(especially with the oracle duties stuff. All i could recall when she was speaking on the radio was Yuna still doing her summoning duties after marrying Seymour)

But was she as impactful as either of them?

I think Rosa from 4 fits into the mix as well.

Does the game ever explain why the crystal chose Noctis? What makes him so special? Did the other Kings know about Ardyn as well or did they just know about the prophecy and know they were not chosen?

The game doesn't really say why...I'm not sure there is a why. He is just the Chosen and that's that I guess?

One of the bad things about modern FF stories is that they rely too much on gods for plot devices and arbitrary events and whatnot... It's like "A wizard did it" except there is even less need to explain because it's gods anyway and everyone knows that "gods work in mysterious ways"... :/
