Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

I think Ardyn was a king. His name is Ardyn Lucis Caelum. But by absorbing the darkness he became tainted and this also made him immortal. He was denied ascension by the Astrals. He was therefore branded impure and being cast out by Izunia who I guess took his place as King, and is probably the true ancestor to Noctis.

Why the Crystal chose Noctis is because he's the lead character. Its just like it is, otherwise another would be chosen and he would be the main.

Ardyn is a metaphor for our idea of a traditional FF. Hence the immortality and eminence, but also the bitterness at the fans ("darkness") and the impossibility to change. Noctis represents FFXV, sacrificing itself to finally put traditional FF to rest before the series can be reborn as something new and glorious.

Reading through some other things and re-watched some of the cutscenes and yes Ardyn was definitely a king. No doubt about that in my mind.

But when did he absorb the darkness? The healer (Izunia) did that, not him. So how/why is he full of the daemon darkness?

Is there anywhere that says Izunia took over as King after Ardyn was deined ascension by the six?

i dunno about that, but you have a great creative mind

Noctis died to bring the light back to the franchise.. Which FF7r will do...while a false goddess gets 3 games, life is just not fair.

Posted this in the OT but probably better to discuss here:

So I wanted to have a little discussion about the true identity of Ardyn.

This is the speech that Ardyn gives Noctis as he is being absorbed into the crystal in chapter 13:

"In ages long past, an incurable scourge ravaged mankind. A tiny menace that twisted men into monsters, the like of which you've seen. In Lucis lived a savior who could cure the afflicted. His body would come to host myriad daemons, that countless lives be spared. But a jealous King, one not yet chosen by the crystal, ostracized and demonized this healer of the people. Making a true monster of him.

I gave you my name earlier but you should know it was not the name given to me at birth. Ardyn Lucis Caelum is my proper name. You'll never guess whose name Izunia was.

Noct, killing you as a mortal will bring me scant satisfaction. Claim the crystal's power, arise as it's champion. Only once the crystal and King are no more...can I know redemption. Come back soon. I shall keep your friends company until you are ready."

Ok. So as we know from the final boss battle that Ardyn has the same abilities as Noctis/Lucian royal blood line implying he was a past King... but I am seeing some people say that he was the healer though, not the king. It would make sense and give him motivation to hate the King/blood line because he was helping people and then ostracized/demonized. At the same time he had to be a King because he has the same powers as Noctis.

Both perspectives make sense and don't at the same time. So which was he? The healer or the King? A little confused on this, maybe I am missing something.

The conversation with Bahamut inside the crysal clarifies a little bit but not really...just that Ardyn is the immortal Accursed and that only the true King can banish him for good at the cost of his own life.

Edit: In the Throne room Ardyn does say "this is the battle of Kings" so I guess he IS a past king for sure. So I guess I am more confused about how/why he becomes immortal/part daemon. Was it punishment from the six for what he did to the healer?
Pretty sure Luna refers to him as King and when he grabs her, there is the hint that he is the former Lucian King.

However, he calls Noctis the 'true king' because he is the main character ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yea I saw that and I was like "da fuck?"

Prompto's DLC episode is so gonna be his time away from the group and learning more about his past.
If anything, I am now thinking of purchasing the season pass because of all the cut content :P

Ardyn def did it. Bahamut says as much.

It could be he was the Heir still, and being used by the current king much like Noctis is used by Regis on his suicide mission. Noctis also bears the name but wasn't King yet.

I think Bahamut explains that Ardyn chose another solution for the darkness. He was supposed to purge the Darkness by eradicating them but instead he absorbed it into himself in order to heal the people. This means he didn't play his role as he should, and apparently he did have the ability to absorb. Which made him tainted and rejected, and being banished. The Astrals chose another person, Izunia, and he probably inherited the name and throne right.

This should've been explained better in the game, I know.

Luna calls Ardyn king in the Leviathan scenes? I must have missed that.

When translated into English it says like this
FINAL FANTASY XV released on November 29, 2016 was a big betraying the fans' expectations
I felt that the remark by Mr. Tabata Edda did not reach the quality which can be released to the world with many contradictions with the product version.
Therefore we strongly hope to restart FINAL FANTASY versus XIII which is the predecessor of FINAL FANTASY XV.
More specifically, Tetsuya Nomura of the former director and Kazunari Nojima of the story draft will be appointed again, making works that are faithful to the versusu XIII system and stories.
And I strongly hope not to involve BD 2 staff, including Mr. Tabata who was involved in XV, and Saori Saeki Lead Scenario Designer.
Please sign if you do not mind.

This is an interesting perspective....the idea that Ardyn was ready to take the throne and even attempted to eradicate the daemons but was then rejected because he was "tainted"....that almost makes me feel bad for him.

WTF.

Oh boy, this is like someone making a change petition for Ken Levine to redo Bioshock infinte so it looks like the 2010 or 2011 gameplay trailers.

Its an insane request

Bahamut doesn't really say anything other than "Ardyn is the immortal Accursed" not that he was the one healing the people though.

Very confused :(

Thats the point of his character. He was a hero, no doubt. He saved countless lives. And he got fucked over by the Astrals, by the Kingdom... He was branded a demon himself and cursed with immortality. He sort of admits he doesn't enjoy being immortal.

His ulterior motive is to die, I think. And at the same time, erase the Lucian bloodline and Crystal from the world. Thats why he helps the chosen king to get his astrals and he lets him power up to full potential. He also doesn't deny Luna from delivering the ring to Noctis, he encourages it but she also needed to die as she was the light. This in order to remove balance and plunge the world into darkness.

Such a twisted plan, wow. The way you put it, I just want to replay the game again to see it with this perspective.

How possible do you think it'd be to set an FFXV-2 in this world? I feel like there's room to tell more stories in Eos, personally. Not sure I want it to happen but I think it's *possible*.

simple

assume bros died

regis died

nyx died

noctis and luna died

if noctis and luna can have a wedding in insomnia throne room we can assume there's an afterlife mirror image of eos and XV-2 can take place there

assets already there for the world too

don't hurt me

edit: libertus can stay in real-Eos

When they died they were transported to modern day Italy with lightning. Tabata goes to make a new IP, Toriyama comes in and starts directing. Game, set match

This sounds good and all but the game does a terrible job laying this out.

I think killing Luna served two purposes: ushering in the scourge of the stars (obviously) but also guaranteeing that Noctis couldn't continue the blood line. He knew Noctis would have to sacrifice himself to banish him for good and didn't want to leave an opportunity for him to, ehh, you know...get together with Luna before he died and have a kid.

It's crazy that Ardyn basically got exactly what he wanted in the end, although you could argue that his motives were completely out of wack after being tainted for so long.

Did he still really want to die at the end? I think so because you can see him kind of smirk at the idea of being at peace when Noctis says it...but you also see his daemon side trying to fight before being killed by the spirits of Lucian Kings.

Wait, so Ardyn is just "Ardyn", he isn't Nadir?

Jared
Dustin
Monica

I think normal names have a place in the FF series. Maria(FFII also has characters named Guy, Gordon, Richard, Scott and Layla), Rosa, Edward(Gilbart in Japanese, though Edge's real first name is "Edward" regardless), Tina, Edgar, Vincent, and even FFXV's Iris(though had Stella remained, she'd also count). FF Dimensions has a Diana, a Barbara and a Sophia. But yeah, some normal names could fit. I'm actually surprised we haven't seen a FF with an Eric, a Tobias, a Mia, a Jessica(am I thinkin' of Lunar), a Sylvia, a Ray, a Luke(this was my preferred name for the Warrior of Light, now am I thinking of Star Wars), an Amelia, an Aaron, or a Raquel(like Rachel, but slightly different).

We see more NPCs with normal names. This isn't new either, as "first" Stella was Bartz's mom in FFV, the King of Tycoon's first name was Alexander, Edward/Gilbart's love was named Anna, Locke's girlfriend was Rachel, Johnny had a crush on Tifa, Marlene being Barret's daughter, and so on. Also don't mind the strange NPC names, like Zokk. Remember Zokk?

Final Fantasy XV: After World

Any guesses on who Nadir can be. Bahamut in human form? Who knows. Final Fantasy Peasant is gonna be really disappointed when he finds out all his theories were far from being true.
That the dude who thought everything was gonna be related to chaos or something?

That the dude who thought everything was gonna be related to chaos or something?

Yea. That Noctis family is actually bad and that Niflheim are the good guys. That Ardyn is serving under Chaos.

I actually thought it could be true too.

Did anyone of you see this train station in the game? I just finished the story it and it seems like it was either tremendously changed, completely cut or it's optional and I just haven't visited it yet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UheXJZBzA8

Yea it's obvious they had more of the world but didn't have a chance to implement.

The whole end of Chapter 5 is badly paced. First Ravus comes in for a boss battle, but then Ardyn comes to block it because apparently Ravus needs to be the next Jihl Nabaat. Afterwards we get to see everyone cry over one man whose name I didn't even know, and then Noctis dreamt about CGI trailers.

So far I've enjoyed the game, but damn. That was cringy.

One could argue that Ardyn actually saved the world, if you think about it. We know that the Scourge/Plague of Stars has been a constant threat--the purpose of the Oracle (and maybe the Lucis line???) is to keep it at bay, but it's never a permanent solution. If the Oracle line doesn't get continued--and it seemed like it might have died with Luna anyway since she was dying due to the covenant with the Astrals--then the Plague of Stars is going to happen regardless of the state of the rest of the world.

So while Ardyn was unarguably insane and had plenty of reason to be pissed off at the world, having saved it from the original Plague and then being demonized for doing as such. He seemingly knew that the only way to actually banish the Plague of Stars was for The Chosen King (Noctis, in this instance) to sacrifice himself and end the line of Lucis. But you can't ask a 19-20 year old kid to sacrifice himself. The entire latter half of the game is Noctis trying to come to terms with the fact that he's going to lose everything he loves in order to be king, and he never really does come to terms with it. So Ardyn forced Noctis into a situation where revenge was the only option, and getting that revenge would force Noctis to sacrifice himself. He kills Luna, he practically forces Noct into getting sucked up by the Crystal, knowing that it'd give him back to the world when he was "ready." He didn't kill Noctis' friends despite having the chance. The game makes a point of showing you that he just... walks away from them. Does he not care about them? Is he leaving bait for Noctis to come back to?

The part of Ardyn that was insane and evil got what he wanted--the Plague of Stars came onto the world and unleashed daemons everywhere. He wound up getting his own revenge. The part of Ardyn that was still a good person (because he likely had to be a good person to willingly cure everyone by absorbing the plague into himself) was able to die and forced the Lucis line to do what needed to be done in order to ultimately "cure" the world of the Plague of Stars.

After all, it's always darkest before the dawn.

Why am I more interested to play as Ardyn now. Arydn prequel expansion?!??!

Nothing in the game implies that Ardyn is still good, he's actively trying to kill Noctis at the end and hadn't done so already because he wanted Noctis at full strength instead of being a mortal. He didn't kill Noctis's friends because he legitimately didn't care about them as they weren't any sort of threat or trying to hinder his plans in anyway, like Ravus did earlier in the game. If this is the intention then like so many other things in the game, it's not conveyed well at all. As Ardyn looks absolutely demonic at the end, if it was the intention it'd be better if he accepted the 13 kings with open arms.
