It's nothing like Versus really was, but it's more like what was promised than what was shown of Versus.

Maybe it's my memory playing tricks on me, but I distinctly remember them mentioning how they wanted real time combat that looked like the CGI trailers and Advent Children, and the 2011 trailer definitely did not show that. Neither did Episode Duscae, aside from the very vague warp points.

It was only in the very brief E3 2013 gameplay that we had some of it in a very automated way, and then in the Platinum Demo we got a legit version of that in the adult Noctis fight.

I'm not even saying it's better than Versus, because I love the gameplay in Kingdom Hearts, and because of that I can't wait to see how FFVII Remake will play, but it's definitely closer to what was promised.

EDIT: And the party control is something I didn't really care about that much after the 2011 trailer. Prompto was the only one bringing something unique to the table, everyone else looked more like a lesser Noctis, so I wasn't too interested in controlling them. This sounds like I hate that trailer, and that couldn't be farther from the truth, but yeah. One thing in that trailer when it comes to gameplay that is still vastly superior to what we have today is magic. Instant and cool, none of that pokeball bullshit.

I did see it, but I'm guessing she grabbing Ardyn during the astral plane battle was the reason for her sacrifice.
Edit: and then getting together in the dreamlike afterlife.

That aside, from what I saw, the things I don't like (for now, I will have to play the game to confirm):

- Combat system
XIII (to compare with the last non-MMO mainline FF title) and Kingdom Hearts (to compare with another SE in-house action based RPG) battle systems are better

- Realtime cutscene
They did a way better job in every single mainline FF games since FF11, MMOs included

- Magic and weapon systems
Only 4 slots to use is a irony when there is a huge variety of options - something they didn't fix from Type-0. Friendly fire makes the magic impractical.

- Hit feedback
FF12, FF13, KH games all did a way better job than this

- Limited number of summons


What I like:

- Music

- Monster/Summon design
 
You know comparisons to Matrix Revolutions aren't exactly a flattering thing? That movie was the archetypical "fantasy story gets too far up its own".

So are the bros basically irrelevant by the ending? I read Noctis soloed the final boss. Would have made more sense for Luna to be a full party member from the looks of things. Or maybe they have more plot relevance than I know of.

They held off some dark iron giants while he soloed because the fight was personal.

You could argue that Ifrit was more like a true FF final battle tbh.

I expected a bit....more to be honest. Especially for something that I've waited 10 years for haha! But no I don't want this to fail at all.

Journey > Destination, I guess. It's true that in the end, only Noctis fought, but would he even get there without his bros? The Omen trailer and the final camping cutscene seem to indicate that he wouldn't.

yea I haven't heard all the tracks from FFXV yet, but I was pretty happy with lots of tracks I heard so far (even if some were a bit disappointing). I do agree she had better songs in KH games, but XV still seems to have lots of great tracks as well.

Yeah, but we're referring far more to the actual tonal and environmental similarities to the two final battles as opposed to the movies themselves.

They take place at night in a broken down abandoned city taken over by the evil with the lone hero standing against the villain in a final duel.

Not trying to hate on Kingdom Hearts here (love the series) but in my opinion I feel that the music in Kingdom Hearts is more "fantastical" while the music of XV is more "realistic" or grounded in reality if you know what I mean.

C'mon man I mean the setting and music during the final battle between Neo and Smith. The battle between Noctis and Ardyn reminded me of it. I liked that final battle anyway...

As I posted up top, confronting Ifrit on his throne feels like a direct reference to Xemnas to me, but I guess the trope is pretty common. Hell, it might even be a reference to it's own first trailer with Noct on his throne.

yea I know the different direction the two games has for the music. Not saying FFXV's more "realistic" direction is bad or anything.

I do hope there is a true ending option here.

I know this is a super lame theory but when Noctis eradicated Ardyn, maybe history changed and Noctis and Luna got married alive.

I'm just guessing here.

Yeah, I know it's just a mechanic for gameplay's sake, but having time travel opens possibilities. No idea if they'll be capitalized on.

I'm not too sure how I feel about the end boss fight.to be honest. I see why some will like it and why some might dislike it. I just felt compared to previous boss fights this was way weaker. I don't want the game to fail but it just didn't seem as grandiose as it should have been.

Yeah because why the heck would they put that wedding scene? The Titanic option select is a weird theory and it does not make any sense no offense.
 
Wow... I thought they were going to kill everyone but Noctis, but to kill EVERYONE? That's freakin INSANE! I missed the stream, so did they have any sort of ruler in place or is the kingdom simply gone? I'm kinda salty now, after getting to know the characters through that prequel anime...

Depending on how loud people whine, I could see a similar action being taken, but the ending as is? It's fine. Everyone obviously wants more, or even a happier ending, but I like that it's not a typical happy ending. I just like there are opportunities for alternate timelines and whatnot.

Nah. They are not gonna buy it anyway.
I don't find the ending to be particularly good or bad, taken out of context. It's conclusive though. No doubt it is an end to a story.

Maybe the flowers and decorations were by the survivors of Insomnia posthumously acknowledging Noctis as their 114th king?
 
Well I'd be lying if I said I didn't love dark endings, so hearing that everyone just straight up fucking dies at the end actually made me a bit more interested in the story lol

Got no choice on that one cause my UCE shipped I think haha! Just got an email from UPS with a delivery date and a description that matches it.

Now what to do with it! Still don't know if I want to play the game now after all this
disappointment. Kind of. It got a bit better.
