Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Ah ok. If that is the case, maybe Noctis isn't dead after all?

Unlikely, it's implied he's dead or a ghost. The CXIV sign came up in the wedding ending with Noctis and Luna. I personally take it as the survivors posthumously acknowledging him as the 114th king.

The game isn't bad, it's ironically one of my favorite games because everything beside the story is actually good, the characters are wonderful.

I don't really care for the party. The dialogue rarely works for me and the sloppy timing on top of the poor English VO from Ignis and Gladio in particular makes me want to turn voices off.

Yeah the game could use more cutscenes, tons of stuff happen off-screen.

Felt nothing about luna's death, she was barely in the open world segment of the game, levathian's battle was very disappointing... felt like DBZ lol. you cant really lose in these big boss battles since they are all QTEs and braindead.

Chaper 13 is a huge WTF, it was way too long and felt like im playing a terrible survival horror.

Despite all this mess i really liked Ardyn, pretty much my favorite character in the game.

Can you go into more detail? You say they develop as characters but they don't have character arcs? That confuses me a bit.
How are they different at the end from when we first meet each of them?
What do they learn during this journey?
What are the specific things you love about each of them?
Is the banter like bioware game banter or is it more like tales skit banter or different even from that?
Maybe describe the relation dynamics a bit that stand out to you? Thanks, for sharing impressions.

Well, for example, Prompto doesn't stay the weakling of the group, he actually grows into a capable man who ends up hunting demons. He also has a scene with Noctis where he opens up completely and you can see him for who he really is, I actually sympathized a lot with his character.

The group learns a lot about hardships and how to overcome them, and how to accept each other no matter what. At first, they start out teasing each other but by the end you see them genuinely care about each other and look out for one another. There is a portion of the game where something bad happens to one of them and you see them (even in their AI behavior) how they walk closely to that person and encourage them every once in a while, and even call Noctis out on it if he walks too far from the group. Their conversation and bantering is not at the level of Bioware games (its still a JRPG after all) but their conversations are not cringe-worthy as you see in other games like Star Ocean. (I never played a Tales game so I don't know).

The group dynamic works so well because you actually buy that these guys are actual friends, they express their worries and concerns to each other, they talk about girls, comment on side quests or characters, and they tease each other. For me, along with the ending, these are the highlight of this game, its amazing.

I see that's somewhat insightful.
What do you mean with Prompto becomes a man who ends up hunting demons? Is that a personal quest thing? I mean doesn't the group go on hunts as 4? So I don't think I understand what makes this a special progression for Prompto.

Also still not really clear the group dynamics. Too vague and nondescript. Like to me the hurdle to make characters feel like friends is not really high. So many games achieve that. Maybe I can cite an example that might highlight what I'm seeking?

Like what creates interesting group dynamics usually are a clash in culture/personalities/morals/beliefs because they create conflict that if done well is engaging because that conflicts also usually occurs in a scenario where everyone has to work together.
It also usually plays well for comedy.

Like the Sten/Warden/Morrigan/Zevran dynamic is entertaining because Morrigan is like a liberal mage that does not empathize the least bit with the radical view on magic of the Qun. Sten to the core believes that the Qun is true but he like many Qunari is also smart enough to know(well arguably by experience) how to fight and when to fight battles of ideology. As such he knows Morrigan is kind of a lost cause and takes a mocking tone with her mostly. Zevran doesn't like to deal with anything series so in that constellation he's mostly poking fun or staying out of it entirely.

But examples like this can be found with almost any varied cast(Think past FF, Persona, all the Bioware games, etc etc) even if the cast itself is more stereotypical like in Tales games. Or if we think outside RPGs think Uncharted, Last of Us, Walking Dead. Those games also have engaging group dynamics.

Basically I want to know if FFXV presents these type of conflicts/tension or if the characters/group in a way feels too static/homogeneous creating a stale group dynamic.
------------------------------
Like so far people are just saying characters/interaction are great but I need some of that put into actual words cause these are broad descriptions.
I just don't have a good sense right now about how this cast will engage because I have no sense about their depth/appeal beyond the first bro impression(which was somewhat positive for me). Basically I'm not just searching for "this is great" answers but I want to know about the why.

I find it hilarious how Ardyn and Arnea are doing whatever the hell they want, helping noctis in the entire game and Iedolas somehow never knew about that. There are so many weird shit in this game.

Iedolas and Verstael only appeared in one short cutscene, they somehow manged to make a game with less villain screen time than FF13's jihl nabaat.

It's really difficult for me to summarize the entire interactions here but I will try to summarize the picture for you. Prompto is a goofy type happy go lucky character that lightens up the mood, he is usually picked on all the time by the rest of the members. Ignis is the mommy of the group, he always tells Noctis to do certain stuff, there are few lines where he urges him to fix his loose shirt buttons or eat his vegetables, he is also very knowledgeable and the group ask him for information. Gladio is the papa bear of the group, he is tough and scolds Noctis a lot but he is a nice guy and pretty laid back.

I get what you mean about Dragon Age but that isn't really the case at all, these guys are already friends so you don't see them having a problem with each other all that much. The conflict mainly stems from things that happen in the story and how Noctis deals with them, they don't particularly agree with it and you actually feel the tension between them at a certain point.

Prompto doesn't undergo a quest like that but he grows as the game go on and get serious until you see him changed in the last chapter of the game.

Its really difficult for me to talk about hours worth of conversations and interactions, but as I said the bros do have their moments even if they don't have a dedicated arc.

Edit2: That trailer is nothing like the game FFXV, I've made myself sad now.....

This is a fantasy in face of the reality.

I read that this guy was supposed to be the bad guy knight in the movie. That right? Such a radically different design.

Hey again thanks for taking the time and effort I appreciate it.
I have a better idea about it now I think.

As for the tension thing maybe I made the example too specific. The tension that exists in good group dynamics can also be of very friendly nature in the sense that the differences still clash but in a way were people just appreciate that about each other. Think Persona 4.

Would be cool if other people would also chime in just to get more perspective on it.

Lightning has a huge fan base, a great design and an entire trilogy to herself. Can't say any of those will happen for Noctis.

Stay mad.

She's the goddess that everyone pretends to hate but actually love in secret.

Nothing, they just left him when they were sailing off to Altissia and we never see him again. They mentioned he was still alive and kicking after the 10 year jump but you never get to see him again, yeah, wasted potential :'')

The fuck?

The fuck?

They obviously didn't have enough time to do everything they wanted, so they scrapped some of the "non-essential" story elements.

Hopefully this will be resolved in DLC.

Or maybe it's a callback to Banon in FFVI who also completely disappears in the second half of the game.

Would any of you have accepted a delay until fall 2017 of it meant fleshing out the story? I imagine SE didn't want to keep funding this project any longer.

Nope. I'm excited for the game and have been for years but enough is enough. Get the game out, do the DLC and move on. It's time to leave last gen's concepts behind and get to work on VIIR and XVI. It's been on Square's to-do-list for a decade and it needs to just be done.

No. I'd much rather SE concentrate its funds on a future FF, restarting anew, rather than linger on a flawed product. As it stands, the story we currently got in FFXV is flawed, but if hypothetically, SE were to delay it for a few more years for a better story, I'd rather they release it or cancel it rather than delay it further.

Just in case Kingsglaive didn't appear shallow and irrelevant enough before...

Agree with both of you. Though hopefully having a mediocre/poor story doesn't hurt the game's critical reception/word of mouth too much and as a result sales and the potential future of the franchise.

I honestly think they just accepted way too many compromises when they re-branded the project. An extra six months wouldn't replace Kingsglaive with a proper invasion of Lucis, etc.

Yeah, i'd wait. The thing is that they had a real good potential here, very interesting world and concept. As much as I enjoy the game right now, I can't help but feel a huge sting in my heart every time I remember the initial concept. If they hadn't removed a lot of story elements from the game we would have ended up with a masterpiece, but they rushed it instead. Oh well, at least the characters were good, I'm SO thankful for that. Otherwise it would have been a disaster for me lmao.

I just REALLY hope they don't screw up the DLCs for the characters, I would be so pissed off if they did!

Any info about Iris? is she dead too?

I think they handled Iris decently, she gets a good amount of screen time and tags along with you for a bit where you can explore few places with her. However, she ends up getting shoved back once they sail off to Altissia.

See, I agree with you but I think your answer differs from the others because as far as I can tell, you were the only one who has played it.

For me, my hype ramped up because I started getting invested in the lore implications the closer it came to release. So when I actually play the game, I'll be getting a lie not much different than the No Man's Sky fiasco.

It's better than nothing i guess,thanks.

Yeah, but had I never played it I would've still wanted all the story elements to come together to reinforce the great ending the game had, so in that case I really wouldn't mind waiting. I don't even want an epic story, I want a story that makes sense with a solid narrative that makes me invest more in the characters. The fact that the story bit is short is so disappointing because everything just happens off screen, even the main villain suffered a lot because he wasn't built up in a way that makes me convinced of his actions. A lot is clearly missing and the missing pieces are essential for me to wrap my head around the story and its concepts.

Ya Verstael doesn't even show up after it(unless he is in a sidequest) and Iedolas gets killed offscreen and turned into a monster I think.

Don't forget the other bad guy with the golden armor. He shows up for one bad AC type tailing mission and you don't even get to fight him, this game, breaks my heart </3

The soldier looking guy that's in the room with ravus, aranea, verstael in that one scene? lol.

You don't even get to fight the dude that kills your dad lol. This game is really something.

Nyx kills him in the movie pretty clearly.

I just finished this game and yeah I don't think it's a great game. The story is whatever, the battle system is messy when there's a lot of enemies, the side content is not fun, traveling by car is slow af.. But I did enjoy how great it looks and the battle system, as messy as it is, it's still more fun than the likes of Skyrim and Witcher.

Chapter 13 was the worst part; hey we're gonna take away your weapons for half the chapter and you're gonna go through these endless boring looking corridors. Ugh. The best parts were the Leviathan fight and the train sequence, those two were the closest thing to the sequences shown in that E3 2013 trailer, the trailer that got me interested in the game in the first place, lol.

Funny their MMO of all things has a stronger narrative at this point. I really question what they were thinking when they started doing all the rewrites here.

Maybe I'll just re-sub and try to get into XIV again, and get XV when the price has dropped.

What are your thoughts on the characters? Do they offset the story being a mess?

They're decent, I guess, nothing special because you don't really get to know much about them. Tho I got a random scene with Prompto talking about his insecurities, I wish there was more of that. So no they don't.

Also forgot to mention that most real time cutscenes in this game feel weirdly amateurish, like something out of a low budget title or something.

Top Bottom
