Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

The change of the logo was totally unnecessary, forced and out of place.
It look like a fan art over the original work.

I am convinced SE never has really known what the actually story of the game is or should be. That's why it's so vague and gaping.

Yeah given the fact that even the official guide (which was created with the help of the XV team in Japan) has contradictory infos regarding characters, it's safe to say that they still changed story parts very late in the development process.

Forgetting about 9? Great ensemble of villains imo.

You really think so? I never liked Kuja, the Queen was whatever, Garland was whatever. The bounty hunter was cool, I guess.

FFVIII's Seymour and the Witch are better than any of them, but I wouldn't call that an ensemble. Biggs and Wedge count, I guess.

Dude, trilogy of full games>>>>>>>one game and a CGI movie in terms of budget, lol it's not even comparable. It wasn't good for the product, but they don't care they make more money with less risk of people not buying the sequels like what happened with 13. They just wanted there money and the albatross of Versus off there necks.

When you put them all together, obviously the trilogy costs more. But that's why they're released bit by bit.

Speaking of Ravus, in Ch 13 when it gets revealed he was actually a good guy wtf. Then you fall some ridiculous height and then land in his lab and all his notes are just neatly strewn around the room. Also wasn't that the Emperor of Niflheim that was that demon thing?

Who signed off on this shit? lmao

It's worth noting that Sawatari is being listed as the post-launch director, rather than Tabata. I wonder how much of a role Tabata himself will have in it.

you're kidding....

lol @ Gladio's dad having the wrong name and photo in the official guide.

But the 13 trilogy killed any chance of them willing to do that again, because each game only sold half as well as the previous. And they weren't going to risk it on an unknown property, even Nomura. They said fuck no to the risk of sequels and cashed in for what they could.

It's not hard to understand

I actually hope there's story DLC involving Luna, Ravus, and the empire because the amount of screen time that each party got is criminal. Not to mention, it would redeem the story for me.

I like the game regardless (bro banter is the best), but it makes me wonder what XV would be like if this would've been a 2017 game.

Hm. I'd say that XII actually handled multiple villains really well. Especially in comparison to their main cast of playable characters lol.

Yeah. I agree. I'm a little surprised by how relatively infrequently I see XII cited for having a strong ensemble. None of them are as good as Ardyn, to be sure, but Cidolfas in particular is plenty watchable. Vayne is alright. Gabranth is alright. The Judges are alright. Ba'Gamnan is alright. Like, look at that -- look how many I listed. Truly, the only game with a larger group of alrights is VII. (But VII has Sephiroth, my personal GOAT main video game antagonist, so that just makes VII's achievements all the stronger.)

That was all of lightning's fault!

Why should noctis be punished by her sins? It's not fair :(

They made a movie and a fucking anime all for this?

I couldn't have imagined poorer story. I legit have no hope for this franchise. Next time put together something coherent then go from there. I'm sure if I turned this shit in for 5th grade creative writing I'd get a fail.

Also the combat isn't that great
For some stupid reason I watched all the movie and the anime. The movie was garbage. The anime was pretty good. They added absolutely nothing to the game for me. In fact, they kind of hurt it in some areas.

FFXIII wasn't well-received, and the XIII trilogy as a whole was disjointed and low budget. I'll be honest, I actually am a fan of the original XIII despite its faults. So, I bought XIII-2. I didn't like it, saw that LR is also insanely different and super low-budget, and I didn't buy it at release nor did I buy it new.

What matters is the quality.

Reception is important, and XV failed to deliver the quality expected from the series, that hasn't been obtained since XII.

It's like who ever wrote him didn't talk with the Kingsglaive people at all.

Reception was not that amazing for XII either. I mean it got decent reviews, but at the time I remember there being a lot of upset among fans.

Not debating quality dude, its just not hard to figure out, they wanted money and to wash there hands clean of the whole mess.

Plus stuff like Stormblood, KH3, and FF7R will all make bank and have quality behind them and no baggage from last gen, they'll be well received. XV took a hit for everything else.

I suppose, and I hope you're right about the quality.

tbh though, for the first time ever I am actually worried about the next mainline title.

When the hell were Luna and Ravus in Tenebrae together AFTER he loses his arm. These flashbacks make no darn sense chronologically.

I keep saying it but the total abscence on the Emperor in the actual game was total ball ache and presenting him as a demon like you are so supposed to be shocked about the tranformation of this character you don't even know anything about is just baffling.

The emperor was a really compelling bastard in Kingsglaive. He shot Noctis's Dad! (Right? I dont remember) He blew up his home! He is responsible for everything terrible as far as Noctis knows at the start of the game.

Exploring his agenda and worldview would have given meat to the conflict.

Exploring his relationship with Ardyn on-screen would have made Ardyn a better "true" villian.

Game has no idea what was good about the story. It's like George Lucas not understand what people liked about Star Wars.

Just finished the main quest, here are some of my thoughts:

-Overall the story was very disjointed and needed either more explanation and more fleshing out of certain characters such as Ravus, Iedolas etc. To me it is still weird how in Kingsglaive Ravus seemed adamant about getting the ring and wanting power, but in XV he turns out to be a good guy trying to help Noctis in his weird way? Iedolas was thrown completely under the bus as some random daemon you fight in chapter 13 WTF?? Also what about the scientist guy, I cannot remember his name, that was also in Nifelheim, where did he go?

-Ardyn was actually not too bad of a villain. His motivations though somewhat flawed were quite believable for someone who was rejected by the crystal and took a dark path of becoming more daemon like to get revenge at the said crystal. Though I kind of wish he had a second form in the end. The final fight just seemed like it was straight out of the final battle in the Matrix: Revolution.

-The bro's became more and more likeable and relatable as it went along. I actually teared up a bit during that mid credit scene with Noctis and the boy's at the final campsite. It was really like "this is the final peaceful moment in a long journey my friends, it has been a pleasure".

-The very final scene with the so called wedding of Noctis and Luna was some kind of dream or alternate reality sequence right? Plus though some people hate it, I kind of dig the addition of Noctis to the logo after you finish the main quest. The last word that Noctis gives "Thank You" is I believe a thank you to the fans of XV that have stuck out for so long waiting for this game to come out.

In the end I enjoyed it overall though somewhat rough here and there, it still leaves a mark on me as the game that I waited 10 years to play and got some satisfaction out of doing so. Cannot wait to do the post game stuff.

The thing about the story is that looks like they took a 1000 pages script and had to cut to 300 pages because they had to finish the game on this decade

At least the story was good enough to make me care about the 4 protagonists and the main villain

XV took a hit for everything else.

Honestly, this kind of reads like a bargaining stage to me. You're probably at least right about Stormblood given the reception to ARR from those who have played it but I'm not sure it's possible to predict KH3 and FFVII-R at this stage.

Yup, pretty much.

Well the next mainline game won't have the same baggage so hopefully development should be smoother instead of a 10 year period from announcement to release.

True, and I honestly hope they stop making engines because that is a big cause for the development hells that have occurred. For XVI, if it does come out this gen, I'm pretty sure it'll use Luminous.

Can someone explain to me why Japan wastes so much time building engines for use in a single game?

Not all of them do, obviously. Capcom doesn't.

I thought it was neat how Aranea randomly jumps in while you're combat.

And even though it probably wouldn't work or make sense (especially with Iris handling the farm on Caem) I wish we could take a guest character with us in post game.

I'm glad I at least did Malmalam Thicket with Iris before I progressed with the story.

I also wanted to see more of Cor.

Yeah, it's a crying shame how completely wasted the whole thread is.
Imagine if you only saw Queen Brahne in FF9 (Making comparisons here because she was also a greedy ruler enabled by a higher power, kuja, to take over the other kingdoms) for a 2 minute cutscene then 30 hours later on after Bahamut destroys her fleet you see her body on the beach and try to remember who tf she was.

It was interesting to see Nyx hanging in the throne room before you go to fight Ardyn. Kind of interesting I thought the majority of Kingsglaive minus the main plot of it would be ignored. Nice little easter egg I guess.

I think the most apt comparison would be Emperor Gestahl, heh.

You guys think that they gonna make a XV-2
That makes zero sense if you look to XV ending, but XIII-2 started retconning the ending of XIII

Not all of them do, obviously. Capcom doesn't.

Not as much middleware?

I think it wasn't until recently that some engines started getting good Japanese documentation like Unreal 4 which Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake are using.

Not a chance, nah. A smaller-scaled spinoff is the most I think they'd consider. Healthy post-launch support and nothing else for years is all the likelier.

It's been... surreal, these past several days, seeing friends tell me "there's no way they don't do a sequel, lol" before they beat the game.

This is the Iedolas fight. It's fucking dog shit.

The demon's name is "Foras" and in the second part of the fight it starts talking about wanting the ring and Ignis goes "Oh is that really the Emperor?" Like, why would Ignis surmise that Foras the demon is actually the Emperor because it was attracted to the power of the ring? And then when you beat him Iedolas says a couple of things about ruling the world and Prompto goes "Well that's that" and they just move on.

Everything concerning Niflheim is gaaarbage.

Funny thing is you fight the exact same "Foras" type of enemy not 5 minutes later when you have to make a break for the crystal. Couldn't even give him his own demon model.

Nope. If they were planning to do sequels they wouldn't have tried to cram three games worth of story into this one. They might have actually done a proper story.

I have a feeling that they just want to get out of development hell from this game and move on.

I actually realized that was Iedolas after I killed him and saw his dying words lol...
It was terrible.

The funny thing is that Foras isn't even a unique demon either.

More Foras can spawn during the part after you defeat Ravus.

I thought XIII-2 was a ton of fun (moreso than XIII) but it seems the Lightning trilogy really soured Square execs from doing sequels and the like. Can't really blame them for it either. Each game performed doubly worse than the previous. Must have been a shock for them considering how much the original XIII sold.

Deep Down you know Capcom had that stillborn called panty raid

I wonder how much miney they lost in that investment. Maybe they could have put it into SFV.

I never liked the idea of direct sequels to the mainline games. X-2 was an awful idea, so were the XIII sequels for a game that definitely didn't deserve sequels...

Each FF should be self-contained. Character-based spin-offs are okay, I guess, but you still walk a fine line.

Omg YES. I literally blacked out half way through Ch13 because of how irrationally pissed off the game was making me from both its plot and gameplay in that section.

At first I thought everything said about Chapter 13 was exaggerated but then it just kept going and going and going. Truly tedious.

I always went with the implication that those sequels were more to make up costs by re-using the engine/assets they wasted so much time on, not to sell more than XIII.
