Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

So in the end... it's still a part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythos with the gods being evil and punishing Ardyn.

I remember in the early days people speculated that Noctis and Stelluna would commit suicide together/die side-by-side because of the Shakespeare influences Nomura had. The epilogue sort of showed this and it destroyed me...

About the epilogue... at the end you have these blue flowers falling down... likely symbolizing Gentiana... so she's... there with them?

The point with the fate of the bros is it's ambiguous and there's no real way to know since the game is told from Noctis' perspective. Noctis dies during the ending sequence and so he has no way to know what is happening in the real world anymore.

Soon after, Noctis destroys Ardyn, so shouldn't the Daemons vanish?
The second Noctis dies, I'd say the bros were mere moments from dying. I'm assuming that they were overwhelmed. Unless time stopped when Noctis killed Ardyn.

No it's not, lol. The basis of the FNC mythology are the fal'Cie. This game isn't set in that universe.

And boy you are REACHING with that Gentiana bit!!! Those are the flowers that Luna likes that grow in her homeland.

Finished it today.
Yeah the peak of the story was definetly chapter 9.
The game should have had a fully explorable Tenebrae (that was even hinted in the world of final fantasy trailer........) and Gralea like they did with Altissia to fully explain things and to give characters like Ravus and the Emperor the space they deserved instead of trashing them like they did.
Instead we got a shitty final dungeon in chapter 13 :/
It's clear that many things were cut. Overall I still think it's a great game, much better than XIII but the second part (that is more like the final third) clearly shows that this was an other MGSV situation, development had to end with what they got.

Questions about the plot:
1)I don't get what Ravus wanted to accomplish while being with the Empire? In the end it turns out that he still wanted to protect Luna and he kept Regis' sword for Noctis until he was ready to be king, but his actions have not much sense if that was his purpose. Yes he kept the sword but how was he supposed to help her sister in pratice?

2)Did Ardyn, given is true name, belong to the royal family of Lucis 2000 years ago? He had healing powers and wanted to heal people from the scourge but doing so he absorbed it and he became the personification of the scourge himself so he was rejected by the old kings and the crystal that initially chose him?
But that doesn't make a lot of sense, he should have been warned not to use his power like that and if he was chosen in any case he was going to be sacrificed, he could have been killed like Noctis by the power of the old gods and the crystal after he absorbed all the ''darkness'' within himself.
It seems more like Ardyn was betrayed for actually trying to be help people....

3)Is the scourge basically due to an actual parasite, MGS style :D ???

Pitioss Ruins is something else.

Who... who would have thought that the hardest thing in Final Fantasy XV is also the LAST thing I'd expect to see in it.

My hands are so sweaty.

Also I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate to say the fal'Cie are evil, but rather the Pulse fal'Cie have a disregard for human life.

They're focused on discovering the gate to the unseen realm and forcing Pulse to reappear/obtain Etro's power. Because causing a catastrophic number of deaths would open the gate, they figure it just makes sense to destroy cocoon all at once.

Thus, the plot of FFXIII.

He also calls him dude in the train before lol'd at that part. Ardyns VA is top notch.

"Dude, are you seriously trying to kill me"😂

I think because that is actually Prompto on the train. Unsure tho as that whole plot device is a little unclear.

Could someone give me a hint on how to get to this Pitioss ruins I'm hearing about. I've just been flying around aimlessly and don't know what to look for. A little hint would be great.

What's the fastest way to level-up? I keep hearing people talking about combining coins with spells how do I do it and where should I be looking for battles to use them on?

All the Ardyn discussion got me thinking. What if the gods were in the right? Ardyn absorbed daemons and darkness into himself. What if that would do something terrible on a grander scale, like infect the afterlife once he went there? What if he was looking for alternatives to giving up his own life as Noctis did, and did something really bad in the process, unknowingly?

Absorbing a ton of evil into yourself isn't exactly the most typical way to save the world, especially one that has an established afterlife. It was heroic, in a way, but there's something iffy about it to begin with.

I still find his story tragic either way.

1) Nifflheim is trying to kill/stop the gods from awakening. If the gods awaken, Luna dies due to the effort of communing with them. Ravus joining the Niffs to hunt down the gods is his way of preventing Luna's death. He has Regis' blade because he thinks Noctis is a worthless King not fit of having the weapon. He dislikes Noctis because he feels his sister is dying for some pathetic excuse of a King.

2) Ardyn was betrayed for being corrupted by helping people. He was fucked over by the gods and the Crystal.

3) Yes. Magical parasites. Whoa.

I think its much more like this:
Ifrit and the other gods are on opposing sides of humanity, Ifrit created the scourge, and the other gods (seemingly) keep it at bay. As Ardyn was swallowing the scourge, he became more and more corrupted and the other 5 gods saw this as an affront to them, as they reject the scourge implicitly. Ardyn, to them, is not a savior but a byproduct of the scourge (note Bahamut calling him "the afflicted"), hence they shunned him.

Its very much like a greek tragedy meets a judeo christian story.

... man, if told right this game's story could have been something else T_T

Yeah, I get that, I just wondered if there might be more to it than "the gods are being mean."

I think only Ifrit was ever opposed to humanity. The other gods don't like him as far as we know. He supposedly "betrayed" them.

Christ. I just completed the Pitioss Ruins, after taking about two hours, and then took off in the Regalia without saving. Did not realise you couldn't save in mid-air, but it makes sense in hindsight. I was absolutely terrified that I would crash on landing and get a Game Over. Fortunately, despite the pressure, I nailed the landing, but I thought to myself, sure, it probably autosaved anyway. Checked the save logs.

It had not.

It had not.

If I had crashed, I would have had to do the entire platforming dungeon again.

Don't nearly make the same mistake I did.

EDIT: Also, when this releases on PC, I'd love to see someone try to complete that dungeon with a keyboard. Good luck to ya.

I went to sleep with 1 million multiplied by 3, turned out 2 million is more or less required to jump from 56 to 99, after it was done going up I was left with 1 million to spare.

btw. that 1 million took me about 20 minutes to get after I used all the coins and banknotes I amassed during my playthrough, you really can take advantage of that leveling system.

Please tell me the system for accomplishing this!

He's up there with the big leagues for sure. Somewhere between him, Sephiroth, Kefka, Kuja, and Vayne.
Yeah. That's a pretty good list of villains. My top is Sephiroth, then Kuja, then Kefka. If Ardyn had a bit more to him, I would put him above Kefka. He felt as evil as Kefka while also having the motivation behind his evilness that I feel Kefka lacks. If only he were more fleshed out.

Thinking about the Big Bang Art that Amano did for the Uncovered FFXV. There's a lot of this guys that didn't appear in the final game no?

On Stylistic aspects of the story :

The one powerful scene that stood out to me was Luna's death. Its the only scene in the entire game that possessed cinematic stylistic creativity and finesse.

Overall its pretty easy to tell that this game's story was made by ''gameplay people'' on the team or just complete beginners.

Its Poorly shot, poorly edited and relying heavily on safe, cheap shots at the player to get ''emotional reaction''.

I thought the throne scene with the corpses dangling from the ceiling was gross & undeserved ''hey look Ardin's a real big baddy'' moment. So was the moment he decided to stab Luna.

Then with the ending,I am expected to feel touched that Noctis dies, because ''Protagonist death= Sad'' trope.

On Prompto,Gladio & Everyone but Noctis & Ignis :

While the supporting characters are ''likeable'' enough. They simply have zero actual development or motion to their writing. The only minor exception would be Ignis' blindness moment.

Constant quips and one liners don't make for great characters. These characters do not go through any real struggles nor do they come out any different by the end of the game. They're just tropes.

This is in stark contrast to even the poorly regarded FFXIII ,where each character properly went through an arc, even if it wasn't perfectly executed.Something tangible was there.

I just hope SE quickly moves from this project.I don't sense any potential to dwell on here.

There's actually a secret regarding Potions dungeon.

For a LOT if jumps the game will assist your jump if you let go of the analogue stick once you are halfway through the jumo distance. For short jumps like the ones near the end of the dungeon you just let go of it as soon as you jump.

I know this is true because I literally did a lot ofnthose precision jumps without even thinking about them over and over again...and didn't die or miss.

You still have to be sort of accurate with the distance you nump though so you still have to control your run momentum. But it's less of an issue for short jumps.

Good thing I can't make out anything there otherwise I might be disappointed

Funny thing because I was about to say that I could identify most of the characters featured in this artwork except the two Odin-like figures and the red and green haired women. Funny enough, I can't seem find Ramuh in there.

Yes Yes Yes. Could not agree more. They were terribly boring, cardboard characters. Luna managed to have a more interesting personality and relationship with Noctis with much less screentime than Ignis, Gladio, and Prompto.

Yeah, Ardyn's definitely up there with Kefka, Sephiroth, and Vayne for me. I also enjoyed Kuja, and loved the self-fulfilling prophecy aspect of Ultimecia. Ardyn probably has one of the best backstories out of the lot, I really wished it was delved into a lot more. The concept art for Ardyn is fantastic, and it could have genuinely been really compelling, even if we just saw snippets of it whilst Ardyn or Bahamut were exposition dumping to Noctis. I'm here for redhead Jesus with a taste for reveeeeenge. I'd love to know more about his dynamic with Ifrit, Izunia, Gentiana/Shiva, the Astrals, etc.

Ravus could have been another Gabranth, too, sigh. Wasted potential.

XIII was slow as molasses at times with its cutscenes (XIII could have really benefited from in-game party banter), but I did like that there was a constant shifting dynamic between the playable cast of XIII, which refreshingly wasn't always positive. Everyone had their own extremely strong personal motivations and subplots. I think Hope was a standout in terms of character development, but I also liked the dynamic shifts between Hope/Snow, and Lightning/Snow. Vanille was irritating, but she did have a hell of a lot going on with her character.

Caius is a boring shell of an antagonist that no one will remember.

Angsty and one dimensional.

How would you like seeing the one women you loved die a tragic death over and over again for thousands and thousands of years? Whats one dimensional about it?

This might be the only FF game where the cast outside of the protagonist doesn't have their own agenda. It's basically boring man Noctis and his cronies. It's telling that people are so sprung on Aranaea. She's an FF party member

This is how I interpret the artwork at least. Important characters missing from the artwork that were later featured in the game would be Knights of the Round, Ramuh and Jared.

So finally finished the game last night. Man, what a fucking train wreck.

The main cast is terrible in this game. Do any of them have any reason for existing other than Noctis? We don't have any real side stories, personal motivations, character specific boss fights etc. Saving it all for DLC is such a scummy move. As it stands we have Noctis and a party of 3 Penelos. Complete disappointment. Any amount of tension is just washed away because it doesn't have anything to do with Noctis.

The story is beyond awful as well. The emotional pay off that they think it has fall flat because of the poor "everything off screen" story telling. I don't care that Luna died because I've only seen her like twice. Why am I being told that Iris and Aranea are bad ass world of ruin hunters instead of showing it off? Why not have them escort you back to hammerhead and see their cool abilities.

Combat turned out to be the saving grace here. They managed to pull of a pretty good system that has weight and impact that it needed. Unfortunately not as great as it could have been due to the awful camera. The low points with the combat system are, ironically, the 2 summon set pieces. Leviathan and Titan offer basically next to no gameplay. So little strategy involved, they are barely interactive cutscenes.

Felt like Prompto was actually the only one I ended up caring about in the main cast. Ignis was just sucn an anime trope, I couldn't take him seriously. Gladiolus can burn in hell.
