Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Later in the game it is explained that Niflheim took people from the villages and turned them into daemons. It is possible that they took a woman and her baby, and turned them into daemons. She is still looking for her baby, asking what did "they" do to him.
Good point!

I assumed daemons were monsters for most of the game. Nothing special about them. But then Chapter 13 started talking about them like they were something other than oversized raccoons that run out into the road you stop your car for. And I was like oh I guess they're people then, and then it turned out they were, because they're always either machines or people in these games.

It was another one of those elements that takes the focus for a chapter and then just drops away.

Except there's no Etro in the FFXV universe? How can she be the new one when there was never one? I think you're confusing different games and universes.

Etro in a sense that she became a goddess, along with Noctis in the afterlife. It's just symbolic. It means something that's open to interpretation as opposed to people just dismissing it as without meaning.

I liked the portrayal of Noctis and Luna's relationship even though I can admit that the game needed more scenes involving the two of them. The wedding was scheduled just for political reasons, but through the game, you can see that Luna and Noctis still loved eachother and looked forward to meeting again.

The bros keep teasing Noctis through the game about marrying Luna and how he's going to be the worst husband ever and Noctis never denies being in love with her, if anything, anytime Luna is mentioned, he's sort of shy and introvert, since he does not want to talk about his feelings about her. When the party gets to Altissia, there's an optional scene in which Noctis sees Luna's wedding dress and gets emotional. (An NPC also mentions seeing Ravus spending the whole evening crying at the church because her sister was going to marry Noctis, and I think Prompto and Noctis made comments about it). Also, if you check Umbra's notebook after Chapter 9, the description says that it's stained with Noctis' tears.

While the portrayal of Luna had many flaws, I don't think they did a bad job showing her relationship with Noctis. He's the type of introvert man that doesn't want to talk about romantic feelings in front of her bros, but through Brotherhood, Kingsglaive and the game itself, it became clear to be that Noctis (and Regis) held Luna dear and wanted her to be part of their family.

It honestly feels to me that people also spent 10 years staring at an original incarnation of a logo.

It's the HD remaster effect of wanting the original. Except without the HD remaster

(Don't get me wrong, I'm aware that it was commented on and intended to be Etro up to a certain point)

If they didn't used the logo in such half assed way, maybe people shouldn't have to point that is very silly.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

At least they included the logo in the narrative. They designed Luna's hair to fit the Etro artwork from starters, I feel like it was always going to be their intention to end the game like that when the script got rewritten.

If they just kept the Versus logo and it didn't have anything to do with the actual game, that would have been disappointing.

I'm not saying there aren't other factors. I'm saying it's one factor. They aren't mutually exclusive.

I mean, it's highly likely if you showed the post-game logo to people who haven't been following Versus at all and asked them to compare it to other mainline numbered logos, I don't think Noctis would 'stand out'. In terms of overall aesthetic and artstyle I think it's pretty consistent.

Did anyone figure out the deal with the naga's baby? I wonder if that was supposed to be the other naga in crestholm?

What happened to your face?

It would be good if it somehow fit in the logo, but it looks pasted on (well, it is) due to a different hue/saturation level on the Noctis part of the logo, and it looks like he's just sitting in mid-air.

It would be funny if that part was drawn by one of SE's artists imitating Amano 10 years after the original drawing, lol.

This keeps giving me goosebumps, the whole epilogue was beautiful.

I'm with you. I absolutely loved it.

In my case is because Noctis looks jarringly tacked on (which it is) and it does not really convey, imho, the romantic and lax tone the logo of Final Fantasy VIII had years ago.

I don't want them in a dramatic pose hugging each other but I think there could have been better ways to execute it.

It does result in a very nice ending and some people dig it and will never notice so it's ok, I guess.

I mean, yeah, it's consistent with the arstyle, but the whole composition of the logo, feels off (Noctis sitting mid-air, breaking the balance of the letters being in the middle of the image, saturation levels, etc...), if they were gonna do this, they should have changed the whole logo. They changed everything else, so...

Sorry for the shitty screencap, there's actually a surprisingly low (zero lol) number of the post-credits logo, but for discussion's sake, here's a round robin of some recent Amano art logos!

XII kinda got disqualified since there wasn't really one with a fixed composition with the text.

The cape sections (new cape off to the left) are pretty consistent. Remember that Noctis is wearing black vs Etro Luna's white.

Whoever said the logo should've had the Regalia on it was right. That car had stronger character developement than the Luna and Noctis relationship.

It started off a slow, dirt speckled black auto mobile that held Noctis back. But throughout the game become dust resistant dark red with cream seats. As Noctis grew stronger, it drove faster. As Noctis braved the night to face his daemons, so did the car shine headlights bright behind him. And as Noctis finally took his place on the throne, the Regalia took to the skies. Always together. Until the Regalia's end, it drove Noctis forward. Pour one out for our sweet fallen car, we shall meet again in heaven.

I'm more emotionally touched by writing that then any Luna scenes.

And as Noctis finally took his place on the throne, the Regalia took to the skies.

p.s. I don't think anything that happens in Ch15 is strict canon.

You couldn't have visited Altissia to take pictures of a painting to turn in to Vyv at Lestallum for example. That doesn't work, chronologically.

See I knew someone would take my joke post seriously enough to try and deconstruct it, but I did it anyway.

The reason I like the ending isn't because I thought their romance was any good. There was no romance. They had nothing but childhood memories. I didn't think they were in love with each other. They just missed each other and wanted to he reunited more than anything An arranged marriage was an opportunity for that but I think they also entertained the idea of marriage. I saw the scene in the afterlife as a kind of wishful thinking from the two of how things could've been if nothing went wrong. Something like that.

They weren't in love so they both wished to be in a fake with no love marriage?

ok.

I just beat a ff main story in 22 hours?

What happened at the end? Is Luna alive or is Noctis dead?

What happened with the empire. Did they just give up becuase ardyn was dead?

Remind me, was it ever explained where/why Gladio left the group for that short while and came back with an additional scar? Or is this just a DLC hook?

Pretty sure they're both dead, it's just them in the afterlife or something.

As for the Empire, well, that just went to shit, doesn't exist by the end. The Daemons which were behind the MTs went loose, even the emperor was turned into one. It's basically just Ardyn sitting on his throne and the Daemons taking over the world.

Speaking of which, is it possible to beat that boss as Solo Noctis, before the actual fight with the team? I felt like with enough timing with the fairly broken dodge counter from the Ring, I could kill him but I became somewhat impatient.

Noctis is Neo the chosen one and sacrifices so there can be light again in the world

Is Luna alive or is Noctis dead?

Both are dead, living an eternal fake marriage for some or they are finally together again, so Luna can finally leave the fridge for other. Your choice.

What happened with the empire. Did they just give up becuase ardyn was dead?

Ardyn destroyed the empire, basically everyone (or most people) are Zombies monsters, thanks to the T-virus parasytes Wesker Ardyn used to trick Umbrella the Empire into creating the definitive army to conquer the world.

Hope is more clear now.

Everyone from the empire became a daemon

And Noctis was killed by the ghost of his ancestors to kill Ardyn for good in the afterword

ok.

Not necessarily wished but were happy with the thought because it meant seeing each other again after so many years. Who knows maybe they actually were in love (which would be stupid) but that's how I interpret it if only to rationalize such a stupid love.

Both are dead and they are granted a peaceful rest in the after life because of their sacrifices. There is no empire by the time the game ends. Ardyn tricked the emperor for 30 years into building all the magitek technology which was revealed to be made of humans turned into daemons. When Noctis gets to Gralea (the Empire's citadel), the whole city is overrun with daemons and there are no humans left.

In a way I'd give this game 2 scores. As a fan you've got some great side content (anime, movie, audio drama) and finally a solid 9/10 game where all of these things came together. On the other hand people who didn't invest in side material, and new FF fans must be so lost, and some plot points must look super random to them. I don't blame them for giving it a 6 or lower.

There were rapture-style clothes all over the place too. :(

Looks like they always talked with each other using the Umbra notebook, so maybe they're really in love...or 6 months after the ending they gonna have an afterlife divorce

The credits are rolling and I don't know what just happened.

Noctis went into hypersleep because the world was set on permanent shitty night-time mode like Castlevania Simon's Quest but with less Medusa Heads and more Iron Giants. Bahamut tells Noctis that there's a way to fix things and get rid of all the daemons, but he has to die for it because Bahamut and these dead kings are dicks.

Ardyn's salty because he decided to take daemons into himself to cure his people, but the king 2000 years ago ostracized him because he's a dick. Ardyn waited 2000 years to have a Dragon Ball Z battle with one of the King's descendants. He picks Noctis because reasons (or maybe because the Empire was the first to progress in technology far enough to make daemons and making daemons makes the world worse; a way better backdrop for a climatic final battle than Ardyn shanking King Regis before he had a kid). He wants to let Noctis reach his Perfect Form because he wants a challenge if he's going to end the Lucis Caelum bloodline, and this goes south.

Noctis uses the ring to destroy Ardyn and return the normal day night cycle, and possibly purge the world of daemons, for now anyway. He dies because the dead kings are dicks. The bros may or may not be alive (Chapter 13 cemented the fact that their power comes from Noct's, but when considering when Noct died the world was fixed at the same time, they might have made it out alive when considering they have been dealing with worse stuff than a few Iron Giants over the past decade). Besides that, business as usual and Noct gets to marry Luna in Heaven like the ending to Titanic.

Noctis has become a legend by ending the Daemon threat. Now you can continue to build that legend through further gameplay and downloadable content.

That's...actually kind of perfect. Nice touch with the ending line, too.

I was discussing the plausibility of Luna and Noctis being so into each other with someone a while back when her being the Oracle and 'destined' to aid Noctis as king was brought up and hammered home the idea that their split was so devastating and lingered because of the destiny shared between them and the 'normal' relationship forged in the middle, along with the brutal way they left each other's company. They are two people forced to carry the same global burden by fate as opposed to volition -- so when they met for the first time and ended up enjoying the other's company not as an oracle and king, but as friends, it left a clearly strong human impression. They wanted to see each other because they liked each other, even if the stars had deemed it so, anyway. They came from the same place, and were going to the same one, too -- but when it came down to it, they were also two instant close friends aware of their status as royalty who were simply interrupted by political pursuit. This is why their fondness for each other persisted throughout the 12 years and transcended the simple implications of magic-dog note transmission acquaintanceship by actually being the attraction of 2 magnetic forces obstructed by the walls of war, both prophetically and naturally meant for each other, but denied such by circumstance. This complicated things and muddled the line between friendship, loyalty, and romantic love -- they didn't ever get the opportunity to really draw it, but because they were so important to one another as prescribed by fate, they couldn't ever leave the other's mind.

In other words, their relationship seemed abnormally defined by their predetermined destiny, the circumstances that split them, a lack of closure, and liking one another as ordinary people, so wasn't your usual pen-pal armlock.

The problem is the game doesn't translate this well at all. It doesn't show you any of those extra layers through consistent in-game conventions, just hints at 'em. The flashbacks come suddenly and pass by quickly without selling us on how meaningful they are, and when Luna ends up dying, what could've been an interesting subversion of our expectations (being the 'girl you want to reach but can't') ends up being just another fridge moment which Noctis gets sad about sometimes.

But I do think their relationship could've been a very interesting one if it was just told with more clarity. No it's not your usual love-story, and that's what was so exciting about it for me. And then ch. 9 ended and I was like, 'that was it?' xP
