Means he's a fake person created by the Empire. Sorta like Vivi from IX, I guess. Considering how close he got to Noctis the fact that he could have been a secret Imperial agent is kind of a big deal, but existentially it doesn't REALLY matter as far as his personhood goes. Just like the guys point out Prompto is Prompto; if he was ever going to betray them he had a million oppurtunities to do it before but never did, so his loyalty isn't really suspect. My personal theory is that Prompto WAS intended to be a sleeper agent of some sort but for whatever reason became too self-aware or overcame the conditioning some how: his DLC will likely expand on that some more.
 
I beat the game last weekend and was disappointed to see how much stuff showcased in trailers (ones that released after Tabata took over) was cut from the game. Chapter 0 was a complete waste and would have been much better if it consisted of content from the Dawn trailer (expanded and narrated over of course). It would have served to resonate emotionally with the ending as well as further expound on the father/son relationship between Regis and Noctis. It would have also given more characterization to some of the key players in the Empire and of Ravus and Luna. Specifically the scene of Luna being thrown down by the general who's name escapes me (for OBVIOUS reasons).

In some of the footage teased before release, there was a scene of Noctis running away from a group of blonde kids (Prompto?) in the dream world from the Platinum Demo. I can't for the life of me find that footage again. I went into the game with full expectations of getting exposition via Noctis' dreams. Considering the amount of focus that was put into the concept of Noctis being a "sleepy head", the content of the Platinum Demo, and the camping/sleeping emphasis, it was a huge missed opportunity. This would have been a perfect place to delve into the relationship of Noctis and Regis AND Luna, with Carbuncle as your guide (literally never saw Carbuncle ONCE in my entire play-through). The Omen trailer footage could have been cut better and serve as nightmare material throughout the game, but the scenario is so far removed from what actually happened that maybe it should have just been left out entirely. I mean, there's not even a remote hint in the game proper that Noctis is about to lose his way or become so far gone that he'd kill Luna...

I'm not sure how to accurately convey in words how much of a letdown the World of Ruin segment is. When I awoke ten years later to see what had happened, I was so excited at the prospect of exploring it. As Talcott drove me to Hammerhead and caught me up to speed, while I saw demons roaming around everywhere, I couldn't wait to get out and see for myself first hand. Imagine my surprise when I get there and the guys are already there with nothing more than a, "Sup." to get the ball rolling. Also, not one person is there to see us off on Noct's suicide march? Brutal.

Going out and having to track down your bros with appearances or aid from Cor, Areana, and DEMON SLAYER IRIS would have been @#$%ing great. You're telling me Cindy couldn't have whipped up a mad max mobile for Noctis to make this happen in 10 years? Also would have been the place to have Cerberus and Diamond Weapon tier deamons show up. As far as I know, not one Kingsglaive style deamon really makes an appearance in the game (just started post game content) Even a scene with Cid acknowledging that you aren't a complete sack of @#$% now and how you remind him of good ol Reggie would have been nice.

Ardyn's backstory being glossed over and never delving into the Empire's machinations AT ALL is criminal.

This is more than I wanted to type up, and makes it seem like I hate the game (I don't). I actually like it quite a bit. There's an amazing story in here...it just isn't...shown. I suppose that's what really has me down the most. It's like watching a loved one have all the skills and abilities in the world and then watching them half ass something important that they'll never be able to go back and fix. This is just wasted potential: the game. I await the addition of cutscenes with highly tempered expectations. :<

As far as Ardyn on the train, I didn't get the sense that it was Prompto the whole time. I thought it was Ardyn being condescending like my 34 year old self says "lit" and "fam" to all the fellow kids. Maybe I'm mistaken.

Edit: I guess the part that makes it ambiguous for me is how he was able to teleport out of the room in the sleeping car and end up behind Noct after he closed the door. *shrug*

expect the most crowded, disfunctional fights of your life down there. Bring magic, the ring of the lucii, and make use of aoe or crowd controll techs.

Focus on the Granade's first, don't bother with bombs.

Good luck if you get into the gauntlet room. More luck if you get in there more than once.


You might hate the game after you do this dungeon, so be warned.

It does have one of the best dungeon bosses though.
 
Someone wrote a post a few days ago that basically rewrote the game's plot to pull out and enhance the story. And it was brilliant. A version of the game I wish I'd played instead. And I can't find that post now! Anyone recall?

Edit- -also, wait, is there even any suggestion in the game that Ifrit is actually integral to the story at all? People think he was in a long term collusion with Ardyn or responsible for some of the villainy in the game. Where what how

I strongly second that! If you can, go to the verinas mart at the base of rock of ravatogh, do the wyvern quest to farm a few wyvern wings, and craft -ga level tricast spells for each element (you really want blizzaga for that dungeon though). I had a stack of 99 in about 2 hours, which translated into 3 flasks of 25 -ga level spells each, and Costlemark Tower made me happy I had them on hand (I still didn't have armiger unlocked on my playthrough when I tacked that dungeon) !

Alternatively, you could use a single magitek booster (drops from the imperial soldiers semi regularly) for a cheap quintcast spell, without any farming. Those two items will make granades & the boss regret they messed with you!

Not sure if it's completely accurate, but this is the impression I've gathered:

Ifrit, in his hatred of humans, tried to eliminate them. I think he summoned the meteor that you see traces of all over Lucis, and that's why there are a bunch of references about how the shards still burn after all this time. The meteor gave rise to the starscourge, a daemon infection that spread across the population. (the only evidence I've seen of this was from a book in the game that described "ash-like particles" that seem to block sunlight and spread the scourge)

Ardyn Lucis Caelum was chosen by the other Gods to cure the scourge, and he did so by taking the infection into his own body to cleanse the people. Unhappy with his methods, the Gods turned against him, forbidding him from entering the afterlife and crowning a new chosen one, Izunia, who usurped Ardyn's name. Ardyn, in his bitterness, then chose to work with Ifrit to spread the scourge until the day that the "True King," Noctis, would rise to fight against him. There, he would end the Lucis line, or if killed, would finally have peace. In the end, he achieved both.

Apologies if that made no sense. I tried. :P

How long did it take for you guys to kill the adamantiose? I think it took me a little over 2 hours and I can't help but feel there must have been a faster way than attacking it's front right leg the entire time.
 
So... As one of the biggest Final Fantasy fans on GAF (don't question it!), I finally got to finish the game that I have been waiting so long for. Despite minor complaints with the story throughout the game the ending was perfect and I loved the game. The title screen change is incredible. I think I need to mull it over for a while before posting my overall thoughts of the game and the plot, but I did have a quick question.

Did Gladio, Prompto and Ignis die as well? They were there with all of Noct's dead loved ones when he faced Ardyn the final time and unleashed the Knights (Kings) of the Round.

Also, I liked Chapter 13.
 
I likened the group showing up at that moment to a similar moment during the final boss of FFIV where other characters show up to lend their power. I personally don't think the bros died.

They're almost certainly alive. There's nothing in the game that really points to them dying, and it makes no sense with how the ending is told/portrayed.

I think its more of a KHDDD situation of "these are the people who i charish and we are together" sort of thing. the "I leave it all to you" line signifies that.
Some think they are dead.
Ray Chase (voice of noct) thinks they are alive.

Fair enough. I would prefer to think they are alive too.

On another note, that mid-credit campfire scene is one of the most emotional scenes I have ever seen in a video game.
 
Guys, I can't stop listening to the second part of Hellfire (Ifrit's battle music). This might be the single hypest piece of music I've heard in a FF game, and I kinda wish there were more set pieces to go along with the song in that fight.

Yup, it was incredibly well done. After all the time the player spends watching the guys bond and growing to love them, it was such a kick in the gut to watch that scene. I loved it.

-Raise Noctis' STR as high as possible. Wearing anything and use anything that will raise it up as high as it goes.
-Used Ignis Enhancement Tech
-Used Prompto Piercer Tech (for the hell of it)
-Gladiolus did his own thing.
-Eat food beforehand that does Crits or raises Attack Boost. I didn't have any ingredients for Crit foods so I just raised the Attack. (Still managed to cause Vulnerable 3-4 times, iirc)
-Use Magitek for unlimited MP so I could just Warp Strike like a mofo.

IF you're doing it right, each hit is 9999 and should be consistent and fast. Replenish MP often for Warp Strikes. Attack the hands, ignore the face.

Turn on a podcast or video and just repeat this over and over.
