Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

I think people forget that Gladio kind of had a right to snap at Noctis in Chapter 4. Noctis was complaining about his headache the whole time and it was putting both their lives at risk. Noctis was being dumb. He was snapping back at Gladio for suggesting solutions. All of it culminated to Gladio snapping at Noctis for not letting him do his job and for constantly acting like a spoiled brat. Noctis realizes this after his words and Gladio apologizes for snapping. I think you have to realize that Gladio lost people to but he's still doing his duty. He expects the same from Noctis.

I mean, I guess if you only viewed the story cutscenes back-to-back, then you'd find Noctis's whining more apparent. But the problem is that you're probably not rushing through story content. Instead, the player's probably taking long breaks between plot points because of the open world nature. Noctis didn't whine during exploration, so it just felt very off when Gladio said Noctis was constantly bitching. Besides, Noctis didn't feel whiny at all during the Titan sequence, so it felt like Gladio was just being a dick.

The rift between the two characters felt really forced. Went from being indifferent to Gladio to really disliking him.

He was complaining all the way up until Gladio said something. He's complaining especially when exploring and being very snippy with Gladio.

"Um try shutting your beak!"
"Just giving friendly advice."
"Yeah! Like a parrot in my ear."

I just noticed.
Noctis=Night
Lucis= Light
Noctis Lucis Caellum
Night Light Caellum
As someone said, it means "Sky of the Light's Night", which is a bit improper latin. Noctis Lux Caelum would have made more sense as it would have translated as "Light of the Night's Sky". In latin, sentence structure is meaningless and endings denote cases for nouns, pronouns, verbs, and adverbs.

Also, Gladiolus Amicitia (pronounced with a hard "c") doesn't translate well, so it could mean "Little Sword with/by Friendship", or both little sword and friendship could be the main subject of a sentence.

Prompto Argentum is roughly translated as "Quicksilver" or "Silver with Quickness" to be precise.

Ignis Scientia is most easily translated as "Knowledge of Fire".

Cor Leonis is another easy translation "Heart of the Lion", which fits the "Lionheart" reference that's in almost every FF game.

The rest of the names are a mish-mash of latin, french, and other languages.

I think Noctis was admirable. Sure, he whined every once in a while, but he nonetheless continued to press on and performed his duties regardless.

That is why Ignis is the best bro. He could clearly see that and has resolved to help Noctis as his support without seeing the need to keep bitching about it, unlike Gladio. Even when he's blinded, he continued to support Noctis because he saw that yes, the kid need more time to prepare himself and yes, despite him losing someone that he loved, the kid still pressing on regardless even if he's acting all mopey every once in a while.

Ignis' way of supporting Noctis is the right one.

I'm stalling on Chapter 8 because I know I'm gonna be depressed at the end of 9. :( I got spoiled on Ignis getting blind and the ending so I'll add my thoughts so far:

- The love story aspect is terrible. Unless they explain why Noctis and Luna love each other so much even though they didn't even see each other since they were kids, it's really not convincing and I can't get invested in it. They could've cut Luna out completely and still follow the basic premise of Noctis sacrificing himself for his friends and the world. If they wanted it to be the road trip bromance it was meant to be, I think the ending campfire scene being their "heaven" would have been more impactful and emotional. Final Fantasy's love stories never seem to be convincing barring possibly FFX.

-Ignis is a sweetheart and easily my favorite character. The whole protagonist group (the 4 bros) is now my favorite after 7's cast, but Iggy definitely took the spotlight in this game imo. He genuinely cares about everyone in the group and is loyal, respectful and devoted to the end. He does everything for the group, is easily the most helpful party member and is probably the "purest" party member who didn't deserve what happened to him. And it's easy to tell that he kept the group together because everyone basically became distant after he went blind. And even after suffering 10 years and having to relearn everything, he still comes back and supports Noctis. He is definitely underrated and underappreciated.

-Sidequests for the most part bored me to tears but I go through them anyway hoping to get more backstory on the main characters' friendship. They really should've delved deeper into that. Brotherhood kind of helps but it's still not enough to explain why everyone are such good friends.

-Ignis' sidequest where we have to get his glasses back is the cutest thing ever, and then I get depressed because I remember his fate. ;_;

Can we have an official GAF poll on how many people cried during the ending? The director said his goal was making people cry so I wanna know how successful he was.

*corny expected jokes about crying about the quality of the game will be ridiculed for being uncreative and predictable

I was moved by the campfire scene but if he wanted me to cry during the Noct/Luna scene, I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint.

*raises hand*

There were dozens of onions being cut near me for everything in the ending, especially the campfire scene. Noctis' VA (English) did a really good job with the emotion. Afterlife ending did nothing for me as per my reasons above.

Ignis definitely hit me the hardest out of everything in the game. Especially after watching brotherhood.

He's the type of character who consistently puts everyone before himself, and he's the one who lost the most out of everyone.

And even when he's blind, he's still managing everyone elses emotions while pushing his own to the backburner. He's definitely the rarest type of person anyone could have the luxury of calling a friend.

Well, no game is capable of pushing me to tears anymore.

Noctis' reaction to the aftermath of Ch.9 was definitely emotional though.

I was definitely touched by the campfire scene, and smiled when Luna rested her head on Noctis' hand and they transformed into the logo--I am such a sucker for lovey dovey scene, lol.

Cried tho? Nahh. But at the very least the ending managed to elicit an emotional response from me, unlike FFXII or FFXIII.

No FF (or any game, for that matter) yet capable of reducing me to a wet mess as much as the end of (time for a random mention of a JRPG that everyone seem to forget!) Xenosaga III.

Ignis definitely hit me the hardest out of everything in the game. Especially after watching brotherhood.

Yeappppp. The verbal smackdown he gave to Gladio and to lesser extent Noctis after the Marlboro fight was really good.

I didn't cry, my stomach churned a bit though. When I rewatched the campfire scene I got more emotional, teary eyed and all.

Oh one other thing I forgot to mention. If there's anything I'll remember forever about this game it's, "That's it! I've come up with a new recipe." lolol

1. My first FF game, I have no attachment to the series.

2. I thought the story had nice ideas but executed them extremely poorly.

3. I liked most of my mates even if they were cardboard cutout archetypes, except for Gladios being a little bitch.

All said, I didn't cry but my eyes did well up some. I think a lot had to do with the great music and art direction, music very easily makes me cry. Still, there was just too much complication and muddled story direction to make me actually cry at the end. I welled up more about the idea of the ending than the actual ending.

Oh one other thing I forgot to mention. If there's anything I'll remember forever about this game it's, "That's it! I've come up with a new recipe." lolol

Well, to me it's:

"That was a close one."

"Too close for comfort."

"I'm comfortable just being alive."

During the campfire scene, I definitely cried. It's a really moving scene.

Now that I think about it, Noct is a kinda rather rare type of a JRPG lead isn't he. I mean he's royalty, but he's a bit of an awkward around girls. But he's really nice, and I do mean actual nice. Somewhat a dork too. Lazy bum. He's loyal to just one girl too, with no stupid love triangle weighing down on him. Can be serious, but also the kind of dude you can play a video game with.

You know, when I think about it, I actually really like Noct, hahaha.

Can I also say how disappointment I was in the villain. Again, my first FF game here and Ardyn just does not work well. Good ideas behind the character but executed very poorly. First, after watching Kingsglaive how the FUCK does Noctis and the crew not know who he fucking is the very first time they meet? Did they all fall asleep during their politics class growing up because his father knew RIGHT AWAY who the fuck he was and that he was kind of a big deal in Nifelheim. He was the one that proposed the peace deal for fucks sake and it's not like he changed his clothes when they met him.

But, I digress. Basically, an effective villain is one whose goal you know and can understand early on in a story, sure there can be twists and turns but their initial goal is known. For much of FFXV there is no primary antagonist. Noctis is told his father died and his kingdom has fallen off screen and then told to collect a bunch of crap and later receive some blessings to get back some crystal to retake his throne. But, besides the faceless idea of the Empire there is no actual villain the player comes up against. Ardyn only reveals part of his goals and nature in Ch. 13, near the very end of the game. It's ridiculous especially since he starts throwing a bunch of lore bullshit at you to justify his actions so that instead of being surprised by some neat twist or awed by his menace you're left scratching your head as you try and put all the pieces together.

The idea of Ardyn once being the Crystal's Chosen and hero of his age only to be denied Ascension by the Gods for basically doing his job resulting in the loss of his throne and good name is a good idea. In addition to the fact that Noctis and his line are basically usurpers of his throne is also neat. But, everything about this is thoroughly muddled and executed extremely poorly. I'm still not entirely sure why Ardyn was helping us through most of the game and how it all fit into his plans.

What a waste.

That's pretty much every anime character, except for the love triangle part.

I hate Gladio post chapter 9. He never even apologized to Noctis as far as I'm aware.

I mean, yeah I get his feelings about Ignis. But does he have to be a jerk the whole time?

I don't think he meant one particular scene in general. I think he meant in general as a whole starting from the most obvious point in the ending

for me the heart strings started getting pulled when..

The game asks you to pick a favorite photo, scrolling through all of them forces you to reminisce about your time with your Bros..

Noct saluting his bros before going to meet his fate.

The audio of them pushing the car from the beginning

The fucking theme song kicking in

The campfire scene was the straw that broke the camels back for me. I fucking lost it. Full blown tears.

The final scene sitting on the throne with Luna made me smile and then the photo I picked lands on the throne. I nearly died. And the photo I picked was perfect, to make matters worse.

When the revised game logo appears, oh my god

First time crying in like 6+ years and certainly the first time crying due to a story from any form of entertainment.

Noctis isn't awkward around girls, he's awkward around a specific girl he knew since he was a kid who now has the hots for him despite being his bodyguard friend's sister, fairly younger than him, and is already set to be married to the person he's been in love with since his childhood, which should make her reel it in a bit but doesn't.

There's a lot of diffuse there, so Noctis is probably feigning ignorance because facing it head on would be too weird. He acts normal around Cindey and Aranea.

Oh I give up... Costlemark sealed dungeon got me. I'd have to tackle it again after AP farming which I really haven't got the time to do :(

And yet, nobody gave a shit about Talcott and Jared, while practically everybody craved to see adult Iris, Aranea, heck or even that waste of space called Cor.

It would be a lot more impactful, not too mention cooler, to have say Noct having trouble fighting some monster and then Iris came to help him out or something.
Well original that was sort of the plan according to the 4 chan leaks.

My guess is the last "expansion" DLC that features playable Aranea, Iris, and Cor will be set in the World of Ruin. I want to say they mentioned that they wanted to add an "avatar" character in one of the DLCs, so maybe the final one is where you create your own character as a hunter and join up with the other three.

LOL, I need to do this quest! Do you remember where/how the quest is accessed?

It's in the Mrylwood Forest or whatever you call it camp near the tomb but I think you have to do the sidequest where you have to help him make breakfast first. I triggered that first sidequest in the camp north of Hammerhead.

I wanted to play with Older Noct more. I thought he was suppose to be playable for the 2nd half? :/

Yeah, the game is full of feels. <3 With the wedding scene, I teared up because I care about Noct and was happy to see him happy.

(Also, Luna, while we don't really know her that well, is clearly a good girl who was dealt a shit hand, so it's nice to see her at peace as well.)

This is where I choked up

As someone who's a career journalist, Dino and Vyv are amazing to me.

Talcott says Cor trained Iris and together they evacuated Insomnia when it became overrun with daemons. Talcott also mentions that Aranea, Biggs and Wedge each lead their own personal army, going on search-and-rescue missions. Maybe an "Episode Allies" could revolve around Cor and Iris rescuing people with help from Aranea and her army.

I was tearing up all throughout the campfire scene and the post-credit segment with Luna laying her head on Noct and the logo changing. Then the title screen and "Noctis" started playing and I just lost it. Whew.

You know what would've been amazing? If Noctis said to Ardyn, "YOU KILLED LUNA," but then Ardyn is like "What are you talking about?" And then Noct says, "In Altissia! You killed Luna in Altissia!" Only for Ardyn to go: "But Noct... I wasn't in Altissia."

And then the camera pans over to Iris, who's holding a bloody knife and an Ardyn mask behind her back.

Why should he when he's right.... Final fantasy 15 is about Noctis needing to grow the fuck up, and Gladio is the character that calls him on it. I feel he has the right to "be a jerk" when you are bodyguarding someone who keeps complaining when everyone in the group has made countless sacrifices. And he does grow up, that's what makes the time jump work from an arc prospective.

Or maybe Gladio proposed to Aranea

Aranea joined my party once randomly in the field, and no joke, there was this exchange after performing Highwind:

GLADIO: "You sure know how to work a lance."

ARANEA: "...I'm not touching that one."

Aranea is what Lightning should have been.

As a side note, did anyone check to see what photo they use if you didn't save any photos during the playthrough? I'm guessing it's the one taken after they fix the Regalia back up in the beginning.
