Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Prompto was adopted when he was 1 by a family in Lucis. He was a fat lonely kid in a Lucian school before he started taking care of Luna's dog Pyrna, who wrote to him after it returned to her thanking him for taking care of it and being a good friend to Noctis. This drove Prompto to improve himself to be a worthy enough friend to Noctis by changing his diet and not skipping any days, leg or otherwise, to reach his new svelte body and be Noctis's bro when he reaches high school.

Of course, Noctis remembers him when he was a fat kid in grade school and would have been friends with him anyway.
I thought this was fantastic.

It's amazing how Noctis went from looking like a total try-hard douche in Versus XIII, to being a guy who still looks like a try-hard douche in FFXV but who actually has a heart of gold and loves people for the right reasons, i.e. what's in their hearts.

Seriously one of my favorite videogame protagonists ever.

Yeah there a few random conversations when wandering Insomnia.

There is also one about where they used to hang out and another about a place where Noctis had a part-time job.
Yeah, I liked that bit. Gladio jokes about how Noct would always have a scowl on his face while working his part-time job there.

Oh? I never got that conversation but is it by chance the place where Noctis worked as a cook or something? In the cooking mini game with Ignis, Ignis mentions something like Noctis having worked as a part-time cook, which Noctis didn't seem to remember too fondly. I was wondering what that was about. Also, why a prince would work at all...

Must be. Could also explain why Prompto was able to escape, it's likely the dude got special treatment.

I still can't decide whether I like the MT stuff or not, regardless of it's terrible exposition. On the one hand it fits well with his backstory and issues, but on the other it kinda undermines Prompto's role as the everyman.

Do we know if it'll be expanded upon in the dlc?

Well you'd hope so considering a big chunk of prompto's absence is in that MT area. I'm wondering how long these DLCs can be, I'm concerned they won't be too long since the season pass as a whole is only $25. We know that iggy's will be set during the leviathan battle as well so it can't be more than a hour or two.

I remember it being a restaurant or cafe on the corner on the west side of the map, so yeah, probably the same place.

I just got that Regis is the Wounded King and Noctis is the Fisher King from Arthurian legend. Hopefully the Gladio Episode introduces Excalibur, which is sorely missed in this installment about kings.

Gladio's episode is the one I'm most curious about, since it's hard to imagine what it'll be about. We know it involves subterranean ruins (or at least it looks that way based on the concept art). We know he gets an extra scar on his face. We know it involves Gilgamesh. We know it will be action-packed. But not much else.

The setting is presumably within walking distance of Cape Caem, since Gladio didn't take the car, although who knows — maybe someone picked him up and took him somewhere else. And he doesn't really hint what he was doing when he gets back. At least with Prompto we have reason to think Ardyn was tormenting him over the MT stuff, and Ignis was blinded while helping people evacuate Altissia.

They probably won't do this, but Episode Gladiolus would be a great opportunity to retroactively flesh out Jared. Maybe Gladio, while acting tough, actually needed a private moment to clear his head, and we could see flashbacks to both his dad Clarus and the butler Jared — Jared functioning more like an actual father who raised him and Iris while his dad Clarus was busy serving the king.

Gladious DLC is probably more he training Iris to look after her self. We hear she becomes a hunter makes sense Gladio would take her when at Caem as he knows he leaving for long time.

That'd be cool, but here's the thing: Iris sticks around after Gladio leaves.

I am 100% sure it takes place in this canyon in the back:

It's where he left the group and there are these strange arches of brittle stone. The exact same brittle stone formations we see in the concept art...

Yeah, that would be cool. I expect the DLC will include some much needed backfill for the story, which is fine.

Moving on from XV, one thing I hope they continue is keeping party members as friends. While I enjoy previous FF cast members, both as individual characters and how useful they were in gameplay, interacting between each other usually never grew behind fighting a common foe, or in FF XIII case, hating each other until they don't. I really loved the camaraderie as well as the little moments in XV, like Noctis and Prompto trying to school each other at darts. My previous favorite characters were Edgar and Sabin because I liked the brother dynamic they shared.

Nice! I bet you're right. I just wonder what Gladio is looking for there.

BTW, do you have high-quality versions of the other concept art? That's the largest version of it I've seen.

I'm praying to all the gods available that Gladio's reason for leaving the party doesn't turn out to be "I wanted to be stronger for Noctis"/"I needed more power to protect my friends"/"I heard about a strong swordsman and wanted to test myself" because if so I won't buy a single DLC episode for this game.

You knew it will be as anime as that especially with Gilgamesh being involved

For Prompto:

There were concept illustrations of Prompto's and Ignis' DLC in the special PS4 theme that Digital Edition buyers got. For Prompto a snowy landscape and for Ignis Altissia. Can't find them right now.

I could totally see it being that, story-wise, but we know it will introduce at least one new monster (Gilgamesh) and as a FFXV super-fan, that's enough for me, lol

I have a soft spot for Ignis because he's just like me in real life. My girlfriend pretty much agreed with me too.

That being said, it was sort of depressing to see Ignis get blinded as I have degenerative eyesight myself. I hope that when (not if) I get to that point, I can be as bad ass as he was post-time skip.

Man, that's a pretty heavy thing to deal with. Best of luck to you.

Holy shit! Nice catch! And Vyv says these are some of the results of the Astral War, so we might be getting more lore on that, too!

Maybe this Astral War is basically gods and Solheim vs Ifrit and his scourge? That would be great to bring to the actual game, instead of just being mentioned in a guide.

You know, with the Starscourge being explained as as photosynthetic organisms that parasitize humans it comes into contact with and turning them into demons basically makes FFXV a better Parasite Eve game than 3rd Birthday.
I think it also kinda makes it similar to the Unsent in FFX with people turning into monsters, but maybe a little more "sense". With Starscourge, the monsters inflicted transform into are always demonic. The only question is, what makes one person transform into a, say, Goblin, while another transforms into an Imp or an Iron Giant? Are some of the demon types more attributed to experimentation via Niflheim (like we suspect regarding the Naga), or is it that you are just more prone to transform into, say, a Reaper or Skeleton rather than a Bomb or a Foras?

I had this exact same logic problem withe FFX's Fiends. When you die and are unsent, what makes it so YOUR pyreflies become a bird rather than a wolf, or a flan rather than a lizard-creature? If you are a fisherman, does that mean you are more likely to transform into a Phlegyas or a Piranhan? Maybe you love eating a lot of chicken (or Chocobo), so you transform into a Chocobo Eater? Maybe you are too hot-headed, so you turn into a Bomb. I don't know, I always thought it was strange. Are normal birds and animals Fiends too, you just don't find them all threatening? So there is a distinction between a normal seagull and a condor, not that they are different species more than one is a REAL bird and the other is a fiend that takes the shape as a bird-thing. Maybe I'm thinking too hard.

While any of those reasons would be annoyingly banal, at least they would give Gladio *some* motivation. He's practically a nothing character.

I already know that Gladio's DLC will most likely have the worst story out of the three. At least with Ignis we'll see how he lost his eye-sight and Prompto we can learn more about this back story and how he got captured by Arydn.

This is what I thought when Gladio just abruptly left for no reason.
"Hey Noct, I have to leave for a while to take care of something...."

"Buy the DLC to find out what I did while I was gone."

I did love this game and all the lovely characters but now, following attempt no. 3 billion or so on Costlemark sealed dungeon I find myself shouting:

Get the fuck up Noct you whiny little fucking goomer! Gladio you bell-end I need healing why are you going over there dickhead? Fucking iron giant bastards!

I must seem insane to anyone who can hear.

What's Luna (freya) Nox Fleuret and Ravus Nox Fleuret in English?

It's interesting how the protagonists of FF post VI are named after weathers and celestial objects:

FFVII - Cloud and Aerith - Cloud and Air
FFVIII - Squall and Rinoa - Squall and Rain
FFX - Tidus and Yuna - Sun and Moon (Okinawan)
FFXIII - Lightning and Snow
FFXV - Noctis and Luna - Night and Moon

Lunafreya Nox Fleuret literally means Moon, Lady, Night, French sword lol
Ravus is Grey Night, French Sword.
Gladiolus Amicitia means Sword Lillie, Friendship
Ignis Scientia means Fire With Knowledge
His original name was Me, the Fire, stun with knowledge lol
Prompto Argentum means Quick, the Silver

After dozens of attempts (and hundreds of antidotes, ethers, etc), I got three decent screenshots of Malbodoom. Once again taken on PS4 Pro with High Detail settings:

This hurt me to read. You poor soul. I hope the power comes back soon

He gave him "several weeks" to get over it. Don't really understand the hate for Gladio. He only snapped at noctis twice and both times were necessary. Nobody else in the group would do it so he had to.

LOL! He gave him "several" weeks to get over the death of the love of his life and bride to be? Listen to yourself man, it takes some people YEARS to "get over" that sort of loss and some never do. Was Noctis doing anything that was screwing with the group? Was he letting them down in any way? No, he was doing his fucking job and here comes Gladios to ride his ass for the 1000th time at the WORST possible moment. This the same dude who just fucked off for a bit from the group and then came back, never explaining why he left or what he did.

Bitch, I gave you time to sort your shit our now you need to give your King some fucking time to grieve over his fiance.

The thing is Noctis was not doing his job. He had the ring but didn't want to use it, his friend was blind and he (seemingly) didn't care, and even though he was still hurting he still had a kingdom save. Moping around was not accomplishing anything when an entire nation (and eventually world) was counting on him. And like I said Gladio only snaps at Noctis like that twice once on the train and the other during the trial of the Titan. That's just the type of person gladio is, he went harsh but it had to be done. Like someone else said as well gladio is probably just as scared and hurt as Noctis is and seeing his King act like this isn't helping.

I remember being absolutely baffled the first time Gladio went off on Noctis during the Titan sequence. It came completely out of nowhere. The game is very poor at setting up character moments like that. The train scene was also forced but at least we were given a few seconds of Noctis being depressed to sorta justify it.

(Even if I think Gladio was being a total asshole.)

To be fair, Noctis was moping when he had really important shit to get done. Also, I think part of what Gladio was mad about is how Noctis had been treating/avoiding Ignis after what they all went through for him.

I just finished the game and I gotta say I'm impressed by the game. Last Final Fantasy I finished was X, skipped XI because I couldn't play it at the time, barely played XII, skipped XIII and XIV.

There's a lot of familiarity in terms of menus, SFX's, music and etc. I liked the world setting a lot, I feel like this must be the most contemporary Final Fantasy world to date. There's cars, machines, cellphones and a whole lot of contemporary items and behaviors working alongside fantasy elements like magic, wild beasts, daemons, gods and etc.

Really like the combat system, but wonder how it will be implemented in FFVII's remake since I don't remember Cloud phasing around to dodge. They'll have to do some adapting, but I feel like they have a nice direction to follow along. First Final Fantasy I've played where combat was a joy for me because it challenged me in the right ways.

The summons were not implemented classically, but I feel like they were well represented nonetheless. Ramuh, Shiva, Ifrit, Bahamut, Leviathan & Titan were memorable and were woven nicely into the story as gods. The Trials were pure eye candy, which was cool.

Not really a fan of how some of the characters were used and really feel like some elements of the plot could've used some more exposition, but I liked the story overall. Was surprised they actually went and handicapped a major party member halfway through the game. I wasn't really neither here nor there with Ignis, but his blindness and the way he handled it really brought me around. Made me feel for the guy.

Didn't really like how Luna was barely in the game and then she simply died and the game expected me to care for her. I consider myself a pretty empathetic guy, so I got by, but even I felt her character was way too absent from the game for them to hinge such a critical moment in Noctis' life on her.

Wish there were more dialogue boss battles like the one with the First Secretary.

I think you're thinking too hard. I always just assumed it was either will, the type of person you were(like evil or good), or possibly just time left unsent. And another theory I had was that possibly more than one person came to together to make an unsent. And I feel like the same logic can be applied to ffxv

The Titan scene would make more sense if they just added a few lines about how Gladio's dad died in kingsglaive (lol). But they never mention gladio's dad once in the game. at least then it could be seen as "I don't want to hear your bitching when we're all hurting but still pushing forward" instead of the random temper spike that it is.

He was doing his shit, he just hadn't put on the Ring yet. Also, Gladios' talk about acting like a King always struck me as weird since he never treats us like royalty, let alone the King. Bitch, bow down before me and address me by my full title if you want me to act like a King.

I think people forget that Gladio kind of had a right to snap at Noctis in Chapter 4. Noctis was complaining about his headache the whole time and it was putting both their lives at risk. Noctis was being dumb. He was snapping back at Gladio for suggesting solutions. All of it culminated to Gladio snapping at Noctis for not letting him do his job and for constantly acting like a spoiled brat. Noctis realizes this after his words and Gladio apologizes for snapping. I think you have to realize that Gladio lost people to but he's still doing his duty. He expects the same from Noctis.

I remember being absolutely baffled the first time Gladio went off on Noctis during the Titan sequence. It came completely out of nowhere.

This. People complain a lot about the train scene and that also felt incredibly forced, but at least there was some motivation there I guess. The Titan sequence freak out just felt completely out of place though, like Gladio had some deep seated shit he needed to sort out so he chose to lash out that frustation on Noctis for no fucking reason at all. Maybe he was jealous of him and Iris and used the opportunity to vent. :P

They were thinking that since he was a kid, 10 years would make a HUGE change in his looks and voice so would really make the time have real impact. None of those other characters would have had the same impact as learning that this man who picked Noct up was the kid.

I too wish we saw Iris and Cindy at least in 10-year-older versions, but it's pretty obvious why they had Talcott be the first person you see at that point.

And yet, nobody gave a shit about Talcott and Jared, while practically everybody craved to see adult Iris, Aranea, heck or even that waste of space called Cor.

It would be a lot more impactful, not too mention cooler, to have say Noct having trouble fighting some monster and then Iris came to help him out or something.
