Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Out of the major characters the only English voice I thought was bad was Gladio, for the same reasons a lot of people have said. He sounds like a guy doing a fake macho voice instead of an actual person. I thought Ignis was fine but definitely inferior to his Japanese counterpart. Noct and Prompto are both great in either language.

There was some spotty voice acting among the more minor characters, the biggest offender I think being the woman you talk to in Altissia to negotiate what to do about Luna and Leviathan.
It is a dude doing a fake macho voice. The featurette with cast shows the guys normal voice way softer

I don't understand playing a game in Japanese if you don't speak Japanese. You're not getting the full impact reading subs. I mean, Pan's Labyrinth is one of my favorite movies ever, but I know I'm not experiencing it the same way as a native Spanish speaker.

The English VA in this game is excellent. They really nailed it out of the park here. The facial expressions match up perfectly, too. See all of the motions Noctis goes through in the campfire scene at the end.

Thinking about places where they can patch in some cutscenes without having to redesign the game, I feel like the end of Chapter 13 would be a great time for some exposition.

While Noctis is adrift in the crystal, have Bahamut and the past kings show him visions of what happened.

Bahamut shows him visions from the time of the Cosmogony, with Ifrit bringing the scourge, Solheim getting ruined by it, the Astral Wars, Ardyn being chosen by the Aetherean (why is he called Aetherean in some languages and Draconian in others?) and absorbing the scourge, Izunia demonizing him and being later chosen as king, and then the little bits of lore the Royal Arms tell us in their descriptions, Izunia building the wall and creating Insomnia, the second king conquering the land that is now known as Lucis, and all of that.

Come Regis, we could get a few scenes of his journey with Cid, Cor and Weskham, maybe reuse a few more Kingsglaive scenes, with his dialogue with Nyx and Luna, saying that he didn't send Noctis away just to save his son, but for the fate of the world. It would also briefly present Nyx for people who only played the game, before they see his body. He was no king, but he did use the ring.
I think one scene they could patch in without redesigning the game would be a Souls-style lore dump at the beginning. Look up the opening FMV to Dark Souls 1 if you haven't seen it before.

Imagine an FMV cutscene like that, narrated by Regis or Luna, laying out the history of the world of Eos:

1) How there are six gods, and one god betrayed the others, and this led to war, the scourge, and the daemons

2) How the gods chose a king and gave him a ring and crystal to expel the darkness

3) How one nation was split into many, and how the empire waged a centuries-long war trying to reunite the world

4) How one day, a stranger (Ardyn) appeared and introduced magitek to the empire, and they conquered everything except Lucis

5) How the King of Lucis protected his kingdom with The Wall, but then the toll it took on him forced him to withdraw The Wall so that it just covered Insomnia

If they wanted to be ambitious and add a new tutorial, a reworking of the dream sequence with Carbuncle from the Platinum demo would be cool. Child Noctis could explore a dream world, and then wake up and accompany Cor to meet his dad arriving in the Regalia (a scene that was originally planned for the opening but canned.) This could be followed by several scenes showing Regis raising child Noctis as a single father (including the dinner table scene with the green tongues!).

And then THIS, in turn, could lead to a second FMV, where King Regis narrates a montage of current events: Namely, the peace treaty and Noctis being sent away for his wedding. Cut to the existing scene of King Regis saying goodbye to Noct and friends on the steps of the Citadel. Then cut to a new scene of Noctis and Luna looking forward to seeing each other.

THEN you begin the game proper. All in all, it'd add 10-15 minutes to the game's start. It'd establish the lore of the world with clarity and spectacle, and it'd also develop the father-son relationship between Noct and Regis so the payoff is greater when you learn of Regis' death at the end of Ch. 1.

Got my certificate screenshot!

This one I decided to take because I've seen a lot of people saying they just ran past everything on Chapter 14, so I'm assuming a lot of people didn't even try camping there:

The actual meaning behind the game's logo:

Started to get this animation all the time when resting at Hammerhead after finishing her questline:

This one is great because I was so excited that completing all dungeons before moving on with the story would make my trophy screenshot for having every Royal Arm super awesome, with Noctis holding his father's sword. This is what I got:

That would be fantastic. Except for the ambitious parts, I'd rather think more realistically, because it then becomes proper feedback instead of just our fanfic. :D

Thanks. I think the "ambitious" parts could still work since they'd be reworking existing cutscenes and setpieces they had worked on previously. I edited my post to include several scenes of Regis raising young Noctis, after he arrives in the Regalia, to help showcase their father-son relationship so you feel something when Regis dies in Ch. 1. Simple additions like these could go a long ways.

I don't know I think some things can be be understood still even if you don't understand the language. I felt the impact of the campfire scene (and many others) even if I couldn't understand what he was saying, emotions transcend spoken language. I'm sure there's plenty of times there's nuance that I miss but I still get the big beats. I also couldn't stand ignis or gladio's english voice (and these two are a huge part of the game so that would be a problem) and the country accent they gave Cidney. Ardyn and Prompto's English voice are pretty good though. I'll probably play in English when I do another play through.

There's a lot of nuance to the VA of Ignis and Gladio that you come to appreciate over time. Especially Ignis, who speaks in a very measured way but accentuates certain words in certain ways when he's flustered or worried or relieved. It makes perfect sense for his personality, the intricate ways the emotion comes through.

The English VA is seriously good. The standouts being Noctis, Ardyn and Prompto. Really, the only VA I was "eh" about were some of the NPCs, namely Cor's assistant Monica.

playing in Japanese, wouldn't you miss out on in battle dialogue and quotes. you'd have to be paying attention to the subtitles , if there are any. Can't recall.

It's mostly very basic, and almost everything is subtitled. At least with portuguese subs. I've noticed that for example the diners don't have subtitles when you set it to english, for whatever reason.

Like I said I'll give it a shot, I'm open minded when it comes to this.

Most of the battle dialogue is subbed, I think the only thing you might miss is them Doing battle cries. I was actually surprised how good the subtitles were in this game because most games don't usually sub that well I feel so I was preparing to switch it to English but never felt the need to.

Japanese audio is always a safe bet because their VA is prioritized over everyone else's. Like Ray Chase was saying in his AMA, they just sent in their voice clips remotely, they weren't even in the same room to play off each other, and then you get typical Western Anime voices like Gladio's where it just sounds like a bad impression of a tough guy, like Libertus in Kingsglaive.

The fact that most of the non-JP VA is actually good is kind of a surprise.

The more dialogue heavy games become, the less inclined i am to use the Japanese voices. There's just way too much information being wasted that subtitles won't convey.

I didn't realize how much this bothered me until both Blazblue and Guilty Gear Xrd:R released without English dubs. Games like Blazblue with tons of contextual voice clips during battle lose alot of flavor when you no longer can understand what's being said.

This is how I feel playing Attack on Titan and especially with Tokyo Mirage Sessions. They didn't even bother subtitling the battle dialogue in that one!

I'm doing Pitioss right now, what is the deal with these statues? Is this Chaos?

Solheim has some history with Ifrit, but even though the statues could be representing him, it's a weird design... I don't know.

EDIT: Just noticed the Ifrit-like feet. But Ifrit himself has human feet in this game. >_>

I have to wonder if Luna/Stella was always meant to be the logo for XV/versusXIII
I assumed the logo was suppose to be etro and the realm beyond opening up. Noctis and Stella were able to see the light of expiring souls. The gate to the unseen realm opens up when there is some sort of sacrifice (maybe stella/luna's death was suppose to be a catalyst to the gate opening?). According to the mythos, once the unseen realm begins to open, there will be nothing but music playing as etro sobs her song of grief. Nomura mentioned the song somnus "sleep" is referenced in the logo, so I'm assuming somnus is the song referenced in the mythos. Wish we could of seen Nomura's original vision.

We're never gonna see it. The most we could hope for, in a few years, is an Unseen 64-like interview with key people behind Versus (namely Nomura and Nojima) about the intricate details of the story. That or an Ultimania Omega that goes more in depth regarding that sorta stuff.

The more they reveal about that game, the less awesome its memory will become

After an 90 minutes of trying to get a Sturdy Helixhorn, I finally lucked out and got TWO in one fight!

Armiger Rush did the trick.

What's the quickest way to grind exp in the post game?
Craft magic with a bunch of rare coins or debased banknotes/other debased items. Eat the 100 exp bonus food in Altissa. Use the magic on any monster. It doesn't even have to hit the monster, you just have to use it. Then after stacking up a bunch of exp, stay at the hotel in Altissa that gives you triple exp.

I stacked up over 600k exp and after staying in Altissa, I went from level 59 to 91.

I'm annoyed that something as creative and mechanically different as Pitioss is is hidden off in a corner for the post game while the trash fire of Chp 13 is something most players will see.

I liked Ch. 13 far more than Pitioss :P
The design was cool or w/e tho

Which monsters are the easiest to farm exp with if I'm around lvl 60? Also, does the exp magic stack if I just spam all of them on the same monster?

EDIT: Just spammed a shit ton of expericast on the Yojimbo hunt and got 450k exp. I think I'm good.

Well, I just beat it.

Color me completely confused as to why people were saying the ending was emotional and spectacular. I think it landed with the greatest thud for me in the series.

You you start off on a quest to get your girl and your buddies are along for what seems like fun road trip. Eventually things start to get darker, you find out you have to die to save the world, and what's really messed up is your both your girl and your dad knew it and were stringing you along like a sacrificial lamb.

What really makes this emotional is the juxtaposition of the first and second halves... everything turns to shit and the only way to save the world is you have to die and your friends (who were just along for a road trip) have to help you which means they have to die too.

This is really made clear in the final campfire scene, where noctis says "I've made my peace."

The friends don't die. Noctis tells him he's entrusting his kingdom to them. He also takes comfort in knowing they'll live. Hence the random conversation that occurs while walking around Insomnia, where Noctis asks Ignis if he can still see light so he'll know when the sun rises, and Ignis says yes, and Noctis says, "...That's good." It comforts him to know his friends will live to see the day, even though Noctis will not. When Noctis says, "I've made my peace," he's speaking purely for himself. The others are crying because they're going to lose their best friend.

I think you forget that when Noctis walks up the stairs to sit on the throne demons spawn. Then when Noctis is dead and faces Ardynn they suddenly stand behind him as well. I think they died.

How brutal is the lvl 99 secret dungeon? Im just about to start the 86 one at Steyliff, and leaving that no item one last!

Speaking of chapter 15..

So I'm on 70% completion rate when I beat the game the other day. Should I finish everything in chapter 15 or load that save in chapter 14 instead? Will I get another certificate of completion if I go back to chapter 14 save file and complete everything?

Anyone, please?

I think you forget that when Noctis walks up the stairs to sit on the throne demons spawn. Then when Noctis is dead and faces Ardynn they suddenly stand behind him as well. I think they died.

That scene with the group and Ardyn takes place in the crystal which doesn't automatically mean they died. As for guarding Noctis from the demons spawning outside the throne room, the group survived a similar situation at the end of Chapter 13 after beating Ravus.

I think you forget that when Noctis walks up the stairs to sit on the throne demons spawn. Then when Noctis is dead and faces Ardynn they suddenly stand behind him as well. I think they died.

I tend to agree with this as well. Noctis doesn't know that they'll survive for sure and they probably weren't expecting to get endless daemons spawning. In any case, them dying to defend Noctis till the end gives the ending and their friendship more weight imo.

This has already been discussed to death, but no, the implication is FAR stronger that they survived. In fact, I don't think the game implies that there's even a chance that they died, yet some people continue to see it for some reason.

The scene where they face Ardyn is inside the Crystal, it's not the afterlife. Noctis dies IN that scene, not before it. Ardyn sees them stand behind Noctis for a split second, shakes his head, and then they're gone. That's all that is.

I think you forget that when Noctis walks up the stairs to sit on the throne demons spawn. Then when Noctis is dead and faces Ardynn they suddenly stand behind him as well. I think they died.
I used to think this, but please consider the following:

- The bros don't appear at the wedding in the afterlife. Why would they not be in that Titanic-style ending if they were in fact dead? We only see Noctis and Luna, and hear the voice of King Regis there.

- The bros appearing alongside Regis is just a "power of friendship" anime cliche (but don't get me wrong, I got serious feels here!). The idea is that their love and friendship transcends death.

- The bros handled themselves fighting daemons, on their own, for 10 years; Talcott even tells us they rarely worked together. They can survive a few Iron Giants, especially since Noctis eradicates the daemons mere moments later.

And most importantly, what I said before:

Noctis takes comfort knowing they'll live to see the dawn. There's an optional conversation to this effect, where he asks if Ignis will be able to see the light of dawn. And more to the point: Noctis tells them he's entrusting his kingdom to them. It's like what Bahamut said earlier: "Many sacrificed for the king; now the king must sacrifice himself for all."

Noctis died so that his friends may live. He tells his friends to "Walk tall," because their journey is not yet over. They will live on. Only Noctis will die. Only his journey will end.

And if you guys haven't noticed: The ending is straight-up a parallel of Jesus knowing he has to die for the world because God (Bahamut) told him, and so his best friends (read: disciples) can inherit his kingdom. There are countless Christ tales in the world of fiction, but it's very heavy-handed here (and hey, it works).

And, this is cheating, but Ray Chase, the Noctis VA, believes they lived! (Seen in a Reddit AMA)

Just beat it.
Overall I liked it.
Kind of lame that the ending panned out as expected though (even though I enjoyed it). Bahamut said noctis would die to save the kingdom and that's what happened. No twist.
Ardyn battle was underwhelming to put it mildly.
Ignis losing his vision fucked me up more than anything else in the whole game.
Oh yeah and I figured people were exaggerating, but chapter 13 really did fucking suck.

seeeee!

True story...that shit hurt man

yeah definitely. When the group was all broken up for a bit and Ignis couldn't keep up and would trip I would feel so sad and upset that I couldn't help him up when he would trip. Gladio was rightfully pissed at me, and Prompto was like stuck in the middle and helping out Ignis.

Was anyone else somewhat sad when the Regalia got fucked at the start of chapter 13?
It was like a part of the group and then it was gone.. it also helped that I played the platinum demo and I knew Noctis had attachments to the car.

It's more of a cliche for a character to end up not dying even though it's prophesied and said they will. I think Noctis is the first main installment FF lead protagonist to actually die. Tidus was a dream boy who canonically comes back anyways.

If brotherhood's backstory was presented in-game cut scenes, flashback... Would you guys have rejected that? Just got into a long argument with someone saying those aspects of their friendship is not essential and if anyone cares about those details they can just watch the anime on YouTube,

Nice fragmented storytelling S-E!

I can't think of anything more beneficial to the story in game than fleshing out how strong their friendship and the history of it

Ignis losing his vision was like "huh, he's blind now? Why? whatever"

I suspected Iggy would get blind since Ifrit's intro.

Dude with dark glasses and some kind of scars in his eyes? Yeah dude gets blind. Felt like SE was trying to spoil me there lol

Putting Ifrit's intro just starting the game was a big mistake IMO.

Honestly I didn't feel like Brotherhood added much to the bro's relationship, maybe other than Prompto episode. Rest of episodes were rather superflous.

They only stand behind him from Ardyns perspective. There is also ghost Luna and ghost Regis who is supposed to be IN the ring. Typical japanese my friends are my power troope.

Edit: They also disappear after you see everything from Noctis perspective.
