Finished DKR, thinking of picking up DKSA...

So I made a promise to myself a while ago that I'd start reading graphic novels. I decided to start with the various Batman works before moving into the likes of Superman, Spider Man, and other non-superhero stories (I heard Blankets was awesome).

A few months ago, I picked up Year One. I loved it.

Today, I picked up The Dark Knight Returns. I finished it ten minutes ago. It was pure sex manifested in ink and paper. I want more.

I've heard DKSA is vastly inferior to its predecessor, but nevertheless, I'm interested in how the story wraps up. Is it worth it?

Also, I was thinking of picking up Long Halloween and Dark Victory. I heard both were excellent. I've also been thinking about Killing Joke, but it's extremely short.

Any suggestions?

When I branch out to Supes and Spidey, I'm definitely going to pick up A Superman For All Seasons as well as Spiderman: Blue.

I've already picked up Marvels not too long ago, and I guess the only logical followup would be Kingdom Come?

!!!!!!!!!!!

DON'T get it. No matter WHAT Matlock tells you. It's so jarringly bad. The art makes it painful to read. I can't believe I wasted the money on this, Matlock should reimburse me.

Avoid.

Do, however, get all of the other books that you mentioned. Spiderman: Blue, Superman: For All Seasons, Batman: Long Halloween/Dark Victory/The Killing Joke are all good reads. Also, try Kingdom Come and Marvels.

Seriously though, check out Kingdom Come, Batman: The Long Halloween, Dark Victory, and The Killing Joke like Wellington recommends.

Spider-Man: Blue was pretty good as well.

Oh, and Bone. I think you may still be able to buy all 1300 pages of it for $27 on Amazon.com.

The new Dark Knight series was alright. You can't expect it to live up to the original, but if you're a big fan, you'll probably enjoy it.

Damn, I'm torn on DKSA. The mjority say it's crap, though I tend to like things which the majority shun, I dunno...... maybe if I find it for really cheap somewhere.

Anyways, I can't believe I forgot to mention Watchmen, I'm going to have to pick that up as well.

Also, anyone know the details on the new version of Year One being released? It seems to have like 50 more pages than the previous release, so I'm wondering if it has some retrospective or making of included? Even though I already own YO, I'm tempted to check out this new release.

Definetly grab and read Watchmen as soon as possible. Thinking back, that book is pure orgasmic. So much depth to the story as a whole. You can readit a hundred times over and still find more shit to admire. Plus, I thought Dave Gibbons art was damn good. DKR was a beautiful book as well. Long Halloween is very good but a bit overrated. Too much plot, lacking the emotional impact of the truly classic batman novels, or any novels. But it IS very well done, and a fun book to read. Lots of things to like. Kingdom Come is not that good imo though. Weak story with nothing gripping about it besides the awe inspiring work of Alex Ross.

I'm not too familiar with Batman lore, so I'm wondering if someone could tell me something about Gordon's family.

In Year One, Gordon's wife is Barbara. In DKR, Gordon's wife is Sarah? I'm a bit confused. Also, didn't someone from the Gordon family become Batgirl? What about Gordon's son?

A little bump to see if anyone can answer my questions.

Also, can anyone post pics from the pages of DKSA? I'm curious to see the art style and why it has turned so many people off.
