GMail Manager is the best. Unfortunately the original author stopped doing regular updates on it but someone forked it and is trying to keep it up to date. You can get it here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/gmail-manager-ng/

Works perfectly for me.

Er... that's built in to Firefox. Click the Middle Mouse Button and then you'll see a round icon with arrows in it. Just move your mouse down and it'll start scrolling. The further you move the mouse down the faster the scroll speed.

Ah cool for GMail Manager, I'll try it out.

And yeah I know about the auto scrolling (that's actually built-in into windows and works in pretty much any applications...unless it's a logitech thing...anyway).

It's not really what I'm looking for. What's cool about the addon in Chrome is that I can enable the NeoGaf Live thread addon so that one of my tab will automaticaly refresh every minute and then activate the Auto-Scroll addon and, everytime the tab refresh, it will slowly scroll down to the bottom of the page. It's great for when I'm playing a game on the main screen but still want to follow a thread in the second screen.

Is there a good replacement for Echofon yet? Haven't really used FF since Echofon went kaput.

Nope, not found anything that come close to the functionality and ease of Echofon.

I've switched to using the program MetroTwit on Windows. It's not as convenient as being a Firefox add-on but it has popups when you get a tweet and separates things nicely.

There's a couple of addons that I couldn't find equivalent in chrome but the only one I really miss is an Autoscroll. In chrome there's an addon that let you click on a button to automatically scroll the page to the bottom (like if you were rolling down the scroll wheel on your mouse non stop). It's so great when you're using the NeoGaf live thread addon. I couldn't find an equivalent here.

This maybe?

Yeah that's definitly the closest I found to what I wanted exactly but it's not quite right. Maybe I'll give a try to addon making and see if I can make something myself.

If you're using a mouse and not a trackpad, you could look into a mouse gestures addon. For me it's as simple as hold right click, move down, and you're at the bottom of the page.

Like I said, I'm not looking into a quick or easy way to scroll the page, that's not the point. What I'm looking for is an addon that will automatically scroll down the page and stay at the bottom of it even if the page gets longer (for example when I use NeoGAF Live thread). It needs to do it even when I'm not focused on Firefox. IE I want to be able to play a game on my main screen and have a page that will autoscroll to the bottom on the second screen.

IS it me or is Flash TERRIBLE in Firefox? It keeps crashing the moment I have more than one window open (ie: 1 twitch and 1 youtube).

I mean...Flash has always been terrible, even in Chrome but it's a lot worst since I switched to Firefox.

Flash is pretty bad but crashing because of having two players open is abnormally poor performance. Do you have the latest version installed?

Hmmm good call, I'm not sure what version I had but when I went to adobe it offered me to install it so I guess it wasn't the latest version. Let's see if it's more stable now.

The most beneficial thing you can do for flash stability is to disable its Protected Mode.

On 64 bit Windows go to:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

On 32 bit Windows go to:

C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

You want to edit the mms.cfg file there and change ProtectedMode=1 to ProtectedMode=0. Create the entry if it's not there.

For example, this is what my mms.cfg file looks like:

Code:
AutoUpdateDisable=0
SilentAutoUpdateEnable=0
ProtectedMode=0

Use this location on Adobe's site to download the standalone installer:

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

Screw their stupid downloader crap. This link should always have the latest versions showing.

Cool, thanks for the tip, I'll try it out.

So with the new GAF, is there a working autorefresh script, or addon that everyone loves?

NEVERMIND: I got Live Thread working again. :)

I was looking all over the internet but didn't really come up with anything. Anyone else in the beta channel, now with Firefox 24, getting a massive hike in cpu useage to around 25% constantly now? I've tried to narrow it down to extensions, but I only use a handful and it's not flash. Also taking up about 3 times as much memory and rising. Maybe I should try a fresh install.

Well with the lack of info you give I'm going to go on a limb here and say its not Firefox 24, and its one of you addons, do you use Ghostery?

Because holy did their last update break so many things its not even funny, if you are using Ghostery 5.0.1 downgrade that asap.

https://getsatisfaction.com/ghoster...y_utilization_with_ghostery_5_0_1_for_firefox

Thanks man, I was basically taking a stab in the dark here so I didn't want to go into much detail. I do use ghostery on that version, but that update was a while ago and I only really noticed the spikes today after 24.... anyway I will try some stuff from that link and report back.

That was it, wen't to 5.0.2 beta thanks for saving me a ton of time sir :). Now that I think about it that version wasn't even working on pages such as my RSS feed where it was before which was odd, glad they are fixing it.

So I am having a weird problem with addons right now. I am unable to download them. I click download and it gets to the point right before it says download complete. The progress bar is full and it says 50Kb/50Kb but it won't finish the download. Anybody know why this is?

Why are you using beta versions? They are not for everyday use.

Firefox beta versions are just fine to use everyday. I've been doing so for 2+ years with no issues. In the case where I would find a bug, I'd report it to Mozilla. That's the whole point of them releasing beta, alpha, and nightly versions to the public.

Yep, same here, Firefox beta's have been generally more stable (and with upcoming features) than chrome beta's for example. I use Firefox beta, almost all my extensions beta versions, even beta flash for around 3 years and this ghostery issue was the first thing to crop up in ages. Knock on wood of course, but when something does happen, I generally enjoy diagnosing and finding out what happened. I'm wondering if it's time to swap Ghostery for Disconnect.

The alpha and nightly channels are a little less stable though.

Why did Firefox MERGE the url and quick search? Before, stuff I typed into the URL bar would be searched on google, while my quick search box was defaulted to Amazon or Wikipedia (highlight and right click to view wikipeida article is awesome!)

But now, if my quick search is set to Wikipedia anything I type in the URL bar is now directing me to Wikipedia. I looked around and this is apparently the newly intended behavior :| Time to switch to chrome full time I guess.

I have a problem. Really the only thing that has kept me using Firefox over Chrome and it looks like they changed it.

Before: I typed 'imdb avatar' in the adress bar and would directly take me to http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499549/. I fucking love this function and use it all the time
Now: I type 'imdb avatar' and it searches wikipedia for 'imdb avatar' like so http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=imdb+avatar&sourceid=Mozilla-search

Any way to change this back to the way it was?

edit: I might just make a new thread to get some more exposure because I want this rolled back ASAP. In the 10 minutes since it changed I have made at least 20 wiki searches

Thanks for the reply.

I should have mentioned imdb was only an example. Other examples

Before: I'd type in 'mozilla firefox' and would have been taken to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/
Now: I type in 'mozilla firefox' and it takes me to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_firefox

Before: I'd type in 'neogaf firefox ot' and probably would have taken me to this thread
Now: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=neogaf+firefox+ot&sourceid=Mozilla-search

etc

looks like it changed the default search to wikipedia and I just want it back to whatever it used to be

edit: looks like it should be looking into this

I recently re-installed Firefox. I had temporarily switched to Chrome for a certain reason but came back. It works without any problem except for the fact that I cannot access gmail at all!

The error message I get says something like I couldn't be re-directed properly, and the desactivation or refusal of cookies might be the cause, but I never did anything like that...

If you've previously had a Firefox install, you may still be using your old profile. That's the best help I can give.

So what's the deal: Firefox has crashed 14 times in the last 24 hours.

Version 23.0.1
No new add-ons or extensions in the last two months, and all are up to date.
No pattern to the crashes -- happens completely randomly. One tab open, click on Google search result link, crash. Four tabs open, scroll down on Amazon, crash. Ctrl-F to search on a page, crash.

Any ideas? I ditched Chrome because it had become a mess, and now the only good alternative is practically unusable. Fuck. :(

Disable flash, try again. If it still does it try Beta. Last resort is a clean profile

Well, no crashes since I disabled Flash, so apparently that's the culprit. What am I supposed to do about Youtube, et al now, though?

You didn't say what OS you're using. If you're using Windows, there's something you can do to make it ultra ultra stable. For Mac...I dunno.

Edit: Wait a minute... you said Control-F. Perhaps a PC then :)

Try this: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=71318096&postcount=56

Ah, yeah sorry. I've never used Mac products before, so it never occurs to me to specify that I'm using a Win7 laptop.

Trying the disabled protected mode now, and we'll see how things run for the next 24 hours... If it doesn't stop the crashes, I'll have to switch over to the html version of YT, although I remember not liking it last year (?) when I tried it on Chrome.

Fuck I hope this works. It's not just youtube, it's any site that uses flash for video playback (like Giantbomb). Pressing back while playing crashes it, playing two videos at once crashes it.

I love Firefox on desktop, if only they'd fix the scrolling hiccup on the Nexus 4, doesn't seem to do it on other Android phones.

I've always been using this setup since Adobe changed in the Flash Player. I absolutely do not get my browser taken out if something goes wrong with Flash. It's very rare that anything like that happens (flash crashing) anyhow.
