Marvel is going to have to do some crazy marketing, and/or find a way to introduce GotG in other MCU movies because they are C-tier superheroes, at best.

I'm going to watch it, but I don't have hopes of the movie performing good at the BO.

What do they really have to do, its pretty much the prequel to Avengers 2. If they market it as such I think it will do fine.

GoTG was a dumb choice if it was in the 1st round of movies but by the times its released it will just be another in the line of Marvel movies leading to the big get of the next Avengers. And it will benefit as such the same way IM3 was up big over IM1/2 and how I can almost guarantee Cap 2 and Thor 2 will be up over their original releases

ROCKnROOOOOOOLLLLLLLL!!!!!!

I'm sharing this gif all over the interwebs. People need to know there's a movie coming that involves a triggerhappy raccoon.

I concur. This series and these characters aren't particularly popular even among the comic book crowd (I should know, I'm a card-carrying member). The books don't sell particularly well, and they are a lot less relatable than, say, the Avengers.

Disney will market it like crazy, but I don't think it's going to blow up.
It wont be a success like Iron Man 3 or Avengers, but it will at least make as much revenue as Thor and Captain America did.

The trailer needs to show some apprehension towards RR that leads into some comic relief. If well done, movie will blow up.

These threads are worth it just to see how much Marvel's success makes both of you miserable. :)

Yeah because I am not a Marvel fan... or maybe I realize that outside of Iron Man their other films have been shit? Now that they finally got some talent behind GoTG and Antman the quality or these movies should improve.

That's not even remotely true or a valid comparison. Iron Man was extremely popular among comic fans. Hell, my wife doesn't read super hero comics and she knew who he was.

I asked her if she had heard of Rocket Raccoon and she looked at me like I was crazy. I showed her a picture of him and she said, "Ummm, that's ridiculous." That wasn't the movie version (which looks pretty sweet) so I'll have to try that test on her next.

One person, but she's definitely in the market place Marvel targets. She loves all the other Marvel films so far, particularly Thor and the Avengers.

Iron Man not only had his own cartoon, but he also guest-starred in other superhero cartoons. He also had plenty of merchandising. He was no Superman but he was far from obscure.

Yup. It's to the point now where you just laugh at anyone who makes the "Bu..but IRON MAN WAS ONCE OBSCURE" argument.

The concept of Iron Man was too expensive to put on screen in the past, but he has been very popular in comics for a long time

I look forward to reading more of your whining in the next MCU thread. :)

My favorite thing about Rocket Raccoon is that he looks right out of a Jim Henson movie. At the very least, this movie looks like it will be lots of fun.

I liked Iron Man 1 & 2 (still need to see part 3), but Captain America was also a great film.

Thor...not so much. My wife loved it, but I wasn't feeling it.

What is more mind blowing is that a comic book involving a talking raccoon using big guns IN SPACE is getting a movie and yet WB/DC can't pull their shit together and make a JL movie.

What's even more boggling is that their worst animated movies are leagues better than Green Lantern.

If you told 15 year old me that they made X-men, Spider-man, Avengers, Daredevil, Punisher, Ghost Rider, and Blade movies, I would have been shocked. If you told me most of them were incredibly successful and actually re-invented the sci-fi film genre, I would have been extremely happy.

If you told me they were making a 100+ million dollar Guardians of the Galaxy movie, I would have said..."Wait...why...?"

This looks great, btw.

they're all mediocre with the exception of Iron Man 1 and 3. But on the flipside Ant Man's probably gonna be the best comic book film since TDK, maybe even better than that. So their studio is at least moving forward with good creatives.

something i can't say for DC

God Dammit Iv'e been following GOTG news for a year in anticipation and then while I'm at work and all hell breaks loose :D

I've seen the 30 second video on VK, were the Youtube trailers any longer?

I still don't understand why Disney refuses to release the video and the name of RR's voice actor. Apparently the full clip showed at the Comic Con was an actual trailer and it already looked terrific.

Maybe they are waiting for Thor 2?

I'm not sure they even casted RR yet it still early in production and year away so not expected a lot of footage. Most comic con stuff doesn't get released but the leaked footage is pretty much all of it apart from little talking about who Guardians are

I really don't like the way Drax looks and it seems like its more of a comedy than a serious movie. Kind of like Galaxy Quest.

They'll certainly be a lot of humour in the film but it'll go hand in hand with a lot of action. Also with James Gunn writing/directing they'll be more than a few really dark, serious moments in it as well.

Wrong. GotG has nothing to do with Avengers and will not set up Avengers 2. They have said many times now that Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be the movie that leads in to Avengers: Age of Ultron. Guardians of the Galaxy is technically in the same Universe but on the complete opposite side of the Galaxy. There will be no Avengers, the only connecting element will be Thanos, who appeared at the very end of The Avengers. This movie is intended to start a whole Marvel Cosmic Cinematic Universe, just like Iron Man started the original, so that they do not have to solely rely on Avengers properties.

Working trailer link btw: http://www.superheromoviesnews.com/2013/08/leaked-guardians-of-galaxy-sdcc-footage.html

Sounds good, I hope it takes off. I'm a huge fan of the cosmic stuff.

Gunn (was it Gunn?) said that RR's actor would be announced by the end of July. No news so far.

Diesel also said his Marvel role would be announced by the end of July and we just learned about it today. Maybe they're just going a little slower than they thought.
