This thread is hilarious with the "downgrade incoming" and "game won't look as good, they're lying" rhetoric. Alarming how many people don't know what a tech demo is, despite all the labeling and clarification.
Did everyone see the part that they were pretending it was live gameplay? So cringeworthy. Why lie? They never learn.
They're lying. Just look at the damn cape she is wearing. Pay close attention to it, and you will notice that there's zero clipping. Have you ever seen a single video game where the cape isn't clipping? This doesn't exist. But when it's pre rendered, well, you do what you want, and to make it look better, you make sure it doesn't clip. I'd bet $500 this is bullshit, and not real gameplay.According to them this was running 60fps on base PS5 hardware.
It's not pre rendered, unless they are just lying.

Don't underestimate what the foilage improvements might allow in headroom that wasn't previously available.I also don't think this technical demo is representative

I don't doubt that this very curated vertical slice was running at those specs on the PS5. But the downgrade in fidelity over the initial trailer they showed is apparent and I also don't think this technical demo is representative of what the final game will run like on the PS5 hardware, if it even is a current-gen game.
Yes, to make it more believable? Why is this so surprising? You wanted everything to look flawless when they're clearly saying that it's running a standard ps5? Look at games running on the engine, it's a mess, and for the most part they aren't even open world.Game was shown with low internal resolution, shadow maps lod changes, ghosting (most likely lumen), mix of cube map and not so high res RT reflections and you think they rendered it offline just to have perfect cape?
Hello old friend. Oh what a beautiful dream you were.In fairness CDPR has a terrible track record of overpromising incredible visuals in tech demos and then completely underdelivering by pretty much every metric.

There was clear clipping at the fish market. They're lying. Just look at the damn cape she is wearing. Pay close attention to it, and you will notice that there's zero clipping. LOD is not important. The cape, tho, you just can't fake it. At what time was it clipping? Cuz her riding the horse, the cape never clipping through horses ass, and then when she was walking, and her swords not clipping through it is something i have never seen in a game. There was clear clipping at the fish market.
And plenty of LOD instances.
It had a slight elevation off the horse too. So they probably had the clip window there. It's also a tech demo so more focus could be put into that.LOD is not important. In the clip above, when she fell, and there's no clipping. I mean, no way. THis is not the kind of shit we see in games.
They even talk about chaos cloth simulation in this tech demo.I saw no cape clipping. That looked like it was straight out of a GoT episode.
Well, all you do in death stranding is travel from one side of the map to the other, so it makes perfect sense that their more realistic traversal was added. Kojima is also someone who pays attention to detail, so even more reason to add that.It had a slight elevation off the horse too. So they probably had the clip window there. It's also a tech demo so more focus could be put into that.
I also never seen traversal in a game prior to Death Stranding. How the character reacted to every minute surface change was never seen before prior.
Fish market had hands and fish clipping through the structures. She also clipped a bit when moving the first NPC out of the way.
6090 going to be my last high end gpu for the foreseeable future future. Have 3k saved so far.5090 is not ready!!!!!

I would say that it's quite impressive:
It doesn't matter, he barely clipped the terrain for shit either. That looked and felt "next gen" as far as traversal and animations.Well, all you do in death stranding is travel from one side of the map to the other, so it makes perfect sense that their more realistic traversal was added. But when it comes to the cape not clipping, that's just insanity. And i wasn't paying attention to any other clipping because they aren't important. What i am saying is that you will never seen true gameplay where the cape isn't clipping through weapons on character's back, horse, elbows, etc. It's just the kind of shit we've had 30 years ago, and i don't see it changing 15 years from now. And clipping is most likely what triggers me most in games, so i laser focus my autism on it every time lmao.
This tech has been out for some time, no? How is it that nothing running UE5 uses it? Cuz everything clips, UE5 or not.
I was never impressed by Death Stranding traversal, so to me it didn't feel next gen. Smooth animations in DD2 impressed me way more for example. It doesn't matter, he barely clipped the terrain for shit either. That looked and felt "next gen" as far as traversal and animations.
Outside of the cape obsession, it wasn't doing anything that couldn't be done.
I don't think it was fake. It's just a vertical slice tech demo not unlike the original UE5 one we saw in 2020.
They shouldve made this instead of cyberpunk. what a waste of time that game was. Boring story, boring npcs, all enemies are exactly the same, and an open world game behind GTA V.
Ok.I was never impressed by Death Stranding traversal, so to me it didn't feel next gen. Smooth animations in DD2 impressed me way more for example.
As for other than the cape, there's two things that were "kinda" too much. FIrstly, the geometry detail in town is insane, all of which super detailed from up close. Secondly, all those custom mo-capped animations of npc's is not what you see in games, especially open world ones. If there's one studio that can do it, it's Rockstar and NOBODY ELSE.
We've know this and they made it clear it was a tech demo, not unlike the first UE5 tech demo on the PS5 in 2020.![]()
Somehow, people still get fooled. CDPR knows what they're doing and it works every time.
Sharp? How it looks isn't the issue... the models used aren't that complex... and the temporal reconstruction artefacts can be spotted a mile away (just look around the MC when in motion). It wouldn't surprise me to find out that that was running internally at 720p and reconstructed to 1080p.No way a UE5 game running at 60fps is looking that sharp on a standard PS5. We'll get a great game…maybe a year after launch or at worst when it's ported to PS6.
They know that only people like us will get the difference. To the majority of the public this is a hype video. We've know this and they made it clear it was a tech demo, not unlike the first UE5 tech demo on the PS5 in 2020.
It looks pretty close to Horizon FW running on base PS5 in performance mode (without the big monsters). Have you played that game on PS5?I don't doubt that this very curated vertical slice was running at those specs on the PS5. They said they doubled the RT performance for that version and for 60fps. Besides, they still didn't specify what kind of RT they are using on that demo. RT is a meaningless PR word at this point.Yes, but Horizon doesn't have RT, which is a huge added resource burden on hardware.
It looked fake to me. They probably played a recording and faked it.I hate how they have a dude holding the controller in this demo . Like wtf .
I though the era of faking shit is over.

The Matrix demo was playable on PS5 and you could do the same zoom in/zoom out into environments because they left in a few of the tools. I believe that this Witcher 4 demo itself was real and that he played it.It looked fake to me. They probably played a recording and faked it.
He's pressing A to move to the next pre-rendered scene. He has a function.I hate how they have a dude holding the controller in this demo . Like wtf .
