First Madden 360 [RENDERED] shot!

Stupid me just realized that all these Madden pics were 16:9 meaning that the HD revolution is truely upon us and all that jazz.

Well, I for one am interested to know how MS is going to market the HD-era in Europe, where HDTV market penetration is very low. I'm sure it will look good on normal tv's too though, and i'm particularly excited that all games will be in 16:9 and (supposedly) will be Dolby Digital enabled.

Well most if not all current XBOX games do DD5.1 so the 360 should do it with no problem. I think that people who haven't played games in 720p or 1080i underestimate screens like these. If you've played games like MVP baseball or Xmen Legends on the current XBOX you can see an amazing amount of detail as well as no jaggies (although many current HD games take a framerate hit). This alone will be a leap over the games we play now which are mostly 480i/p and leave alot to be desired.

Damn! looks like McNabb got replaced with Lion-O in the Philly line-up!

THUNDER!

THUNDERCATS!
HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIKE!

All I can say is....GET A GRIP!

First off, these are just screen shots...it WILL be even more impressive in motion

This is very early, pre-first gen

This is from EA

This is from a multi-platform game

This is from EA

oh, and lastly, this is from EA!

You can't judge an entire generation of games based on a few screenshots from a football game. Let's see what some other developers do, developers more known for their graphical prowress...and let's see how games built from the ground up for the X360 look.

Whoa, I'm not ripping on the screen shot. I think it looks impressive, it's just McNabb looks wrong. I should know, I've seen him play since a freshman at Syracuse.

I think videogames, or at least sports games, have hit what I read a Bungie employee call the the "Uncanny Valley" in an interview on How Stuff Works.

Basically it when something looks so good that the flaws however little they may be by comparrison really stick out. Take FF:TSW as an example and you'll see what I mean.

BTW: Look at the pic again, he has fricken Cat's eyes!

According to industry people who were at a specific event at a specific company (not EA), games for a certain yet unnamed next-generation console won't look as good as the screenshots in this thread. But the overall lineup and approach very impressive anyway, so I hear.

Those look awesome. Anyone who disregards these is a fucking moron. And I thought I was a huge EA & Madden hater.

To all the complainers I truly hope you guys will actually back up your dissapointments in the graphics and just skip this next genereration. After all, if it doesn't impress you, why spend your money? I hope you guys sit this one out. Let the rest of us be impressed in peace. Wait till 2010 when you'll have something else to complain about.

If the game animates well and doesnt have slow down issues, i would say it looks at least as good as this commercial. Im betting they are setting the game in the snow to show off how close the two are.

LOL. "It's in-uh the Game-uh."

I think the screens look amazing so far, but how come there's no snow on the field? And are those models on the sideline 2D bitmaps or full 3D? Anyway, I'm dying to see some gameplay footage. Saturday can't come soon enough.

Seems the pics are showing a progression of the camera zooming out to show the entrie field, atleast I hope so. Thats what I want to see, and that is the entrie field. With all the players at the scrimmage line.

How long would you say EA has had Xbox360 devkits? I'm hoping for some A,B,X,Y icons floating over the heads of players.

i would imagine EA had devkits as soon as MS could provide them... dunno what the time frame on that is though.

i personally am dying to see some daylight shots. i think that is actually a harder lighting to pull off naturally.

Maybe the use of light scattering would help.

Does anyone know where I can find that Nike commercial?

Do you guys think that the snow will accumulate? I'd be happy just to get the snow like it is in DOA. I know that would be taxing on the system but would be great nonetheless.

The shots keep getting better and better, don't bother with the idiots.I hope the 4th gets put up tonight like this one did last night :D

I was waiting for someone to come in and start complaining about that nike commericial shot. "Uhhhh, the lighting looks way off." "Why is it snowing and at night. What are they trying to hide."

Um no,the jerseys didn't have any animation to them in ESPN NFL,and like I said in NBA they had a really cheap looking bounce effect, that's it.

CHEAP!?!?

Yea dude, the jerseys sat there perfectly, then they would bounce every once in a while like it was a water bed or something :lol

Enough with the ESPN shit though,no one cares.

Im really loving that Nike commercial. I dont want that to raise the bar too high because the perspective is totally different when you're actually playing the game. Little touches like the ground giving way with every step wouldn't be noticeable from the playing views in Madden.

However I would love for such things as the ground to now become a factor in the game. I know that rain makes a minor difference in this generations Madden but hopefully with the new generation we can have the puddle in the middle of the field affect the players differently than lesser soaked areas. I dont see the players being affected by outside variables too much and I'd like that to change with this new generation.

I remeber when the new Madden came out for this past generation and they said that the entire amount of polygons it took to build one complete player for the PS1 gen made up just the foot of this generations player. Can we expect the same jump? Im curious to know.

I dunno about that, but it's pretty obvious by just looking at the old PSX Maddens that what we are playing today would have seemed out of reach at the time,so I'm still wondering why some people don't believe this can be done.

I've been lookin at the McNabb pic some more, the sideline is packed with people,I can make out Eagle players along with camermen and such,I just have a hard time believin that they would go into such great detail for something that wasn't the actual game.Saturday please hurry up,kthxbye.

Well I care. Madden was overall the better game but ESPN clearly showed that Madden has a lot of room for improvement. That is what I'll miss most about the ESPN series moreso than the game. That was really healthy for us football fans who enjoy seeing massive updates every year. However I dont want to digress away from the topic at hand.

I believe that all of those players will be there. We had a lot more players on the sidelines in this gen than in the previous. Of course they'll be low poly to conserve for the actual players but I wouldnt be shocked to see the 1st ten rows of fans be low poly characters also. They wouldnt need to jump the poly count until cutscenes. I believe thats perfectly doable and has been done by both EA and Madden in this gen.

I'd love to see turf conditions actually have an impact on the players. ESPN did that somewhat with players slipping on wet turf. But to me, the players in ESPN seemed disconnected from the field. Like they were superimposed over a prerendered background or something. Madden has had some effects like splashes coming off of wet turf but field conditions don't seem to have any effect on the game other than perhaps a few more fumbles.

The whole reason for bring ESPN/2K up is the fact that their games look generally look better, and so it would be interesting for us die-hard sports fans to see what THEY can do on next gen consoles.

I'm dissappointed by these pics mainly because of the art direction. I think the 2K football games would have the same problems, no doubt, as it's colours weren't exactly photographic either. I posted examples from the NHL game, and the reason why the faces looked great because they were modelled well and more importantly textured with photographs.

I really think that Madden 06, despite having far higher poly counts and animations, can still be easily distinguished as a videogame simply because of the colour palette.

First next gen Madden shot thread. 600+ posts. How the fuck? Seriously. Madden trolls getting snipes in I'm sure. Not treading through this thread from the beginning!
