The next generation bar can't be set any lower, that is for sure.

Musashi Wins! said:I'm bummed and a little angry. I feel like I supported the Xbox trying to bring attention to the innovations and responsiveness a new contender brought to the gaming market and I thought by launching early they were aiming for a broader evolution of their system and library and instead I feel like what their really interested in are better looking versions of what I essentially have now. That and finding ways to make customization a steady money stream through dumb shit like faceplates and buying Ecko shirts for my new soldier. I know it's a cynical feeling, but those are the things their marketing team decided were important that I know so I feel like I'm leaving a lot of the interpretation up to them.
I feel like the Japanese support will be limited but really good in spots which is essentially as it is now and that's a little dissapointing.
I feel like I'm being realistic in thinking that a lot of this is the stumblings of a new launch and there's likely to be far more positive impressions out of E3 and the months beyond launch.
I think that a lot of gaming is going to get more realistic looking, even more derivative and I might get bored off it a lot quicker than I thought a few months ago. I'm afraid that those parts are the aspects that all the companies will attempt to emulate the most in an attempt to capture the MTV market of gaming in the biggest market for entertainment in the world.
I'm thinking that I shouldn't watch anymore shows on gaming that feature hot bands and celebrities. Ever again.
I'm hoping that Nintendo really does want to be different than the other two companies and not just prove that they are just as cool to some guy from the 70's show. That's the biggest shift in my feeling.
I'm probably just overreacting to all the hype bullshit that exploded in my face in a half hour of commercials last night.

I'd tend to agree. There's no reason at all for the game to look so asstastic in those shots.xsarien said:The $375 million dollar first-party publisher that built their entire reputation on squeezing a lot out of hardware shouldn't be having trouble.

PD0 what a joke.
Exactly. Go and take a look at the latest news articles and such. It was a mainstream excitement kicker and it did its job id say.Redbeard said:What do you think the point of the MTV show was?

Mrbob said:The hardware is awesome. Wireless, hdd, downloading content, downloadable demos, expanding Xbox Live! That stuff is great. Getting me amped for the 360.
Then the DoA4 pics leaked. Which, btw, may or may not be indicative of the final product. They looked good, but not mind blowing. So my anticipation dropped. Then the second Xbox 360 game I really looked forward too crushed me. After all these years for waiting for Perfect Dark 0 this is what we get? Pathetic. I'm really, *really* hoping those multiplayer shots are not indicative of the single player. I still have a little faith yet that I will be wowed by DoA4 and PD0 at E3. Those are my two most wanted 360 games. I have a hard time getting excited for potential 2006 releases at the moment. I want to be wowed at launch.
Zaxxon said:I don't know. As I understand it, Microsoft would like to cater to older gamers, 20+, but all the people I know that age are too smart (or cynical) to buy into shallow crap like the MTV show. Microsoft should be firing their marketing folks.

Yeah. I guess they wanted to have something playable and just went with whatever.TheDuce22 said:I cant wait to see what sony will show with ps3. They wont make the mistake microsoft did and unleash the ugliest game on the public first. They dont have nearly the same ammount of haters either. There is no question the x360 hardware is awesome, it boggles my mind why they decided to show off certian games.
Scoot said:If the 360 is like PS2 this gen (unplayed except for a few key titles) that's fine with me.
I love my Xbox and a ton of its games (as my forum post history shows ;p) but if I get more mileage out of another Next Gen console, that's fine.
I'll get it for Halo 3, like I got PS2 for Metal Gear 2.
Multiconsole gaming ftw.

Was it wrong for me to expect a similar leap in performance this generation? Hell, was it wrong of me to expect even half as big a leap in performance this generation? 'Cause we don't even have that, by the looks of things. Granted, if everything shown was the standard of Gears of War or PGR3, I wouldn't be quite as disappointed, but given that they weren't even shown in-game, I'm really quite worried.

blackadde said:The only thing that would sell me on it right now would be if MS bundles native kb/mouse support right out of the box, and asks the appropriate devs to take advantage of it. How many (if any) USB ports does this thing have?
we would've gotten that if Microsoft haven't jumped on the gaming market and ruined it...

uh no, when i see playable 30+ fps versions of Gears of War, Ghost Recon 3, etc then Xbox 360 will be looking better. Right now all I see is one playable game, PD0 and it looks like shit.
TheDuce22 said:I think people need a reality check. PS3 is coming 6 months after x360. If you dont see the generational leap now you wont see it then either.
cja said:The hardware looks nice, I love the s-controller so X360 pad seems sweet except for the use of AA rather than a li-ion pack battery (extra weight and size just to save a dollar or two).

Umm. So when is it launching in Japan? Are you expecting different specs for different regions?Razoric said:1 year more dev time + a more powerful system I think you'll be quite surprised what Sony has in their bag of tricks.
we'll see man... it's actually coming out a year after xbox 360 in the U.S...
Dracos said:In the gamespot article on the X360, Microsoft clearly states that a USB keyboard will be usable for text and the like, but they will not allow them to be used for gameplay.
PhatSaqs said:Umm. So when is it launching in Japan? Are you expecting different specs for different regions?
We also asked Chris Satchell, the General Manager of XNA at Microsoft if we could possibly connect a USB keyboard to the 360. He told us that, "we will allow you to plug in a USB keyboard. It's very useful for the text entry. What we're not enabling it for, we're not enabling it for gameplay." So the keyboard is a go for text entry, but a no-go for game control.
